iPad and Yahoo!

April 7, 2010 on 8:47 am | In Mobile, News, ipad, iphone | 22 Comments

I am fairly certain that by now you must have known that Apple released its latest product – the iPad – last weekend on Saturday, April 3rd.

The iPad is the latest and probably the grandest entry to the world of Tablet computers – 9.7-inch display, half-inch thick, and weighing in at just a pound and a half. It runs the iPhone OS on it so all the same apps you use on your iPhone, like Yahoo! Messenger for iPhone, will be available for the iPad. Please try it out and let us know if you face any issues.

Talking about iPad Apps, Yahoo! introduced the Yahoo! Entertainment for iPad on Saturday. Some of you may have even downloaded this app over the weekend. This has wowed both consumers and press alike. TechCrunch has voted it as one of the best iPad apps.  Using editorialized, real-time content, this Yahoo! Entertainment App surfaces and recommends TV shows, entertainment news, TV listings, book reviews, and a wide variety of popular videos from across the Web. Read more on the Yahoo! Entertainment Blog.

Do you plan to buy an iPad in future? – if you have already bought one, then which is your favorite App? – as always, please feel free to leave your comments.

New Yahoo! Messenger for iPhone: chat with your Windows Live friends

April 4, 2010 on 9:02 pm | In iphone | 34 Comments

We’re pleased to announce that we’ve added one of the most requested features to our latest version of Yahoo! Messenger for iPhone (1.4): the ability to chat with your Windows Live contacts.

Now when you’re on your iPhone, your Windows Live friends will be able to see when you’re online, and send and receive messages from them. You can also add new Windows Live friends right from the app.

In addition to supporting Windows Live conversations, we also added more languages in a prior release. Those of you who speak French, German, Italian, and Spanish can enjoy Yahoo! Messenger for iPhone in your native tongue.

If your iPhone is set to one of those four languages, Yahoo! Messenger for iPhone will detect that automatically and load the same language.

To download the new version, tap the App Store icon on your iPhone and search for Yahoo! Messenger (you may also see an update alert on your App Store icon). Or click here to download it through iTunes.

We hope you enjoy this latest version. If you have any technical issues with Yahoo! Messenger for iPhone, please send us feedback by tapping on “Settings”, then scrolling down and tapping on “Report Problem”.

How to say goodbye on IM

April 2, 2010 on 9:08 am | In 10 version, 9.0 version, Features | 17 Comments

Sometimes it’s hard to say goodbye when you’re IM’ing with a friend. You, or maybe your friend, always want to get that last word in, share just one more link, tell one more story.

Then there are those friends that just don’t know how to really say goodbye. You think the conversation is over and “ping!”, a new message comes in. How do you get them to say goodbye?

Thankfully Yahoo! Messenger has a few ways for you to get your message across, in the most humorous way of course.

We’ve got a set of Goodbye audibles that let you impersonate a number of silly characters who all have their own excuse for why they need to skedaddle. “Gotta go..my meds are kicking in!” says one nervous looking fellow. A pony-tailed woman with a choke dollar purrs “Gotta go. My parole officer needs to use the computer.”

Then there’s the audible that won’t shut up – the flight attendant with the incessant “Buh-bye. Bye now. Buh-bye.” And rather than lie to your friend about a meeting you have to run to, just tell them the truth with the spectacled pooch: “Gotta go, Gotta go. I gotta pee!”

We’ve also got a few emoticons that fit the goodbye ritual. There’s the “wave” emoticon :-h which also doubles as a hello emoticon. I’m also a fan of “talk to the hand” emoticon =; . It’s a more abrupt way to end the conversation, but it has its uses. If you’ve really had enough, try the “not listening” emoticon %-( .

One of my favorite ways to sign off IM? The “hug” emoticon. > <img src='http://www.ymessengerblog.com/blog/wp-includes/images/smilies/icon_biggrin.gif' alt=':D' class='wp-smiley' /> <

And since it’s a cinch to share and watch videos in the Yahoo! Messenger conversation window, you can always send them a goodbye classic (watch below).
