THE BUZZ FEATURE MATTER TO ME THE MOST CAUSE IF I DO NOT GET A REPLY FROM MY FRIENDS I CAN BUZZ THEM AND THEY HEAR ME:) COULD U GUYS GIVE US MORE COLORS SO WE CAN CHANGE THE COLOR OF OUR MESSENGER THANK YOU

My concern here is the end means of the question. If the intent of the question is for a future scaling down of instant messaging features to just one single feature due to budget/maintenance/cost concerns, this could change a voters preference on what to keep. If this question is asked to poll a users instant messaging features preference geared toward any future applications such as instant messenger for a different mobile phone platform or web messaging, then this as well could change the voters opinion.

Oh no, I see it coming folks. We have seen the good ole days of yahoo messenger come, and gone (pretty soon). Jeff, you’re right. There scaling down there messenger. I guess to save money. Afterall we are in hard times and a delapitating economy. Major corporations are scaling back quite a bit on all ends of the industry (from Hotel’s to Auto Maker’s to even Microsoft and Yahoo). It don’t really bother me that much anyway. I mean, most of my messaging I do, is by text messaging on my cell phone to my friends and family anyways. I barely use the messenger anyway.
It just strike’s me funny that Yahoo is making a contest out of it. They should make it clear (in a honest, and seriuos way), that they are going to be scaling back quite a bit to the customers. They should (in a serious way) make an announcement to the customer’s of the scaling down of messenger, then have a poll of what feature’s to keep. This (contest) would only make alot of customers angry.
Me, I’m not angry. I understand that all good things must come to and end (especially in these day’s with this economy). It just stuck me funny (humorous to where I almost laughed), that this would be a contest.
There is alot of us out here that do understand the sacling back is neccessary. Yahoo is still doing their best in providing fine service to their customers. We all should understand that 20 year’s ago, all we had were “business type” IRC chat, and mainly the only form of messenging was talking on a telephone. We all should appreciate the idea of having messenger in the first place.
Athough, this announcement was probably put in a wrong way, we all should also appreciate all the other fine services Yahoo is providing to their customer’s for free (where they could have charged for some of these services, but there not).
Yahoo, thank you for all you’re services, and keep up the good work.

Oh yah, I voted to keep the picture/ file sharing feature. Now, (just about) the only times when I really use the messenger now is where I’m sending or recieving a file. My opinion is that is about the most important feature. I’ll give up the emocation’s, the colorful text, plug-in’s, and all that un-neccessary fancy stuff for the file sharing.

Guys, this is simply a poll for polling sake. Just a little something fun. There is no ulterior motive to finding out what features matter most to you. We’ll continue to offer them, no worries!

Well miss bacon why don’t you post a poll and see how happy your users are about chat that would be amusing
Comment by Karl Mayhew — May 6, 2009 #
i agree,, being able to chat and send and recieve file transfers is important,,
how ever it would be cool to add emoticons(smilies) that one finds on the web or the ones you make, like you do on windows live messenger.

voice, what I use to talk to my bf.

Features that matter most:
1) online history – linking WebIM, Mail IM and Desktop
2) Multiple log ins – So I can have my iPhone and Mail IM, and desktop all logged in at once (currently you can only do one at a time)

Sadly Yahoo got hammered hard by Microsoft live messenger. I was forced to use because all my friends use it instead of Yahoo Messenger so instead of doing this basic poll you should invest in a study on how to improve it and make the users use it as their main IM.
for example:
1- A new more attractive interface (not like the now dead vista Yahoo messenger) I believe after so many years the current interface should be taken out of its misery
2- Application wide color/skin changes for some reason people like that
3- Add custom emoticons
4- New audibles something like winks or even better, if Microsoft, the non creative company, came up with winks I am sure you can do better
5- Multiple logins with the ability of sign out any of these
6- Ymessenger for the most sold mobile (Nokia) and then to all mobiles
7- Online history like orgoo. Instead of only having the contact list roam with the user it should be contact list and history
Just throwing my 50 cent in there.

Windows Live Messenger is utter JUNK anymore. The only upside is Y! users and WLM users can IM each other both ways.
Comment by Cliff — May 7, 2009 #
One cool thing about Windows Live is you can set up and access “Skydrive”. You can store 25GB of storage (such as Pictures, Videos, etc..). I think You can access Sky drive through the MSN Live Messenger.
Other than that, I think Yahoo messenger is better in most ways.

I would love to see an option where you can disable the BUZZ feature completely.
bots are starting to use them and a lot of people consider it rude to buzz someone that they don’t even know. you have a lot pf people who buzz people they don’t even know and it is really rude!!! be nice if we could turn that feature off!!!

Can you make the display image available for moving gif files too?? that would be also great….

Emoticons are the best. Hiding half of them is not so good

I would like these features please:
Fix the issue where the chat screen doesn’t fill to the right hand side when maximised.
Fix the ad-hoc emote issue in chat (i.e. prefixing your text with : makes it send as an emote, not a normal post) I have reported this over and over and not a single person respodned acknowledging a bug. Max on the helpdesk tried to help me post smileys – when I replied saying that’s not what I wanted, I got no response.
Fix it so you can press the up arrow to scroll through the messages you already posted in chat – useful if somebody misses it.
Fix the /help text output, which is so out of date.
Add the Voice Chat option back to HTTP proxy chat mode, there is no reason not to include it, and HTTP proxy mode is the only way to avoid being booted at present.
Fix the ignore list management – try clicking the first, holding shift, and clicking the last, it doesn’t remove the entire list, just one screen full.
Fix it so that if a mobile user actually logs onto messenger it alerts you – this is annoying when buddies

I have 4 plugins that I can’t get published because Yahoo hasn’t accepted plugin submissions for years. So I have to try to work them all into the one test plugin (that must be reloaded manually). I don’t need for others to be able to use them, but the current test setup is very limited. If you aren’t going to bring back 3rd party plugin support, at least make it easier to use one’s own plugins. I hear the new AIM has plugin support now, so going to check it out.
Comment by Kelly — May 16, 2009 #
As others have mentioned, being able to be logged into your mobile device and the YIM client would be an improvement. AIM has had that for years. That said, I wasn’t a fan of the older AIM client and haven’t look at the newest AIM release yet. So it may still be lame on other features. I really like YIM, so don’t mean to be too critical.
