Y!TunnelPro is not a chat client; It’s a companion program for Yahoo! Messenger. I link to it because I am part of their support staff. It may be a third party, but it’s only an unofficial add-on to Yahoo’s official client, not a client on it’s own. I won’t be going in the topic anymore as I don’t wish to start an argument over it.

Wow, 3 years later and Yahoo chat is completely unusable. They used to have 50% bots and now it's close to 100%. And you have to do a silly captcha check for each room, which hasn't helped stop the bots a bit. Yahoo, should just shut down the rooms until they can fix them. They claim to be working on the problem, but after 5 years of it getting worse it's obvious it's beyond them.

My Yahoo Messenger stopped working (wouldn't let me log on), so I deleted it from my (home, stand-alone) computer and downloaded the latest version (10). Now it won't even let me install the new version -- something about having to fix a Firewall setting or error. I have tried turning all firewalls off, tried setting the servers, tried a system recover to before this problem -- tried everything. Nothing works. I am using the web version, but it doesn't have any of the features of the regular version. It is a major problem to me as I use YIM a LOT. Please help me solve this issue. Thanks.

The best feature to employ on yahoo would be some sort of geographic PM traffic block...

Like say, I am in a Canadian room, and only want private messages from people that actually live in Canada, that Yahoo Messenger has a geographic filter ignore capability, that can ignore messages from IP locations that are not located in Canada. Or....I can preselect a geographic range of countries that I do want to hear from, and messenger will ignore the rest.

This would be such a welcome feature. it would certainly make Yahoo Chat a lot more fun, instead of wasting my time adding the silly plonkers who ask asl and BUZZ, to my ignore list. A lot less disruptive ...

Just to followup:
Captcha was somewhat useful, but doesn't work in current state.
Perhaps something like a 3 hour captcha might work? Every few hours of login, user needs to captcha.
The ignore list needs to be more that 250 considering the number of bots.
And it's not realistic to use the setting 'ignore IM's from people not in your friends list'. We are here to meet other people and IM's are part of the process of making friends.

To the people at Yahoo, please use a Yahoo chatroom (Texas for example), with IM's from non friends enabled, switch to a new room once in a while..and see if it's usable. You will be blown away.

Its such a great platform, run amok. It's a big waste of resources and what used to be a great service. I am really sorry for Yahoo's current state.

Hi Sarah,

Came across this old blog entry. To me, it is a very easy assumption to make that no one at Yahoo uses the Yahoo chatrooms. The bots RULE - what a MESS. I am sorry to see this. It's been many years and this has not been fixed.

Because I had a good experience in Yahoo chatrooms 8 years ago, I decided to use Yahoo DSL service and other Yahoo paid services. But with the current state of affairs, I will have to say good bye to Yahoo. Thanks for your service in the past. It was invaluable (while it lasted).

To the other users. what are the alternatives to Yahoo? Lets all go to some other service.

Old Yahoo Fan.
