We will be performing maintenance on chat rooms in Yahoo! Messenger on Sept 15th 2011, from 1130am to 1230pm PST. During this period, the chat rooms will be unavailable.

  2. When you do maintenance in chat rooms…will this fix the voice server problems?? We can not hear any music or ppl talking in chat rooms since Friday September 9, 2011,

    I keep getting the same message. That the room was unable to connect to the voice server…Trying to
    connect..It is the same in all yahoo rooms.

I hope your fixing the voice servers .. and it would be nice if you fix the smileys so that they post properly .. the big grin and others will not show to users when posted alone in chat .. been like that since you put in the new smileys .. it shows locally to the user but nothing in the chat room .. try it

  6. I don’t think anyone from yahoo actually ever reads anything posted here.
    I read several things regarding the chat VC issue, from it being security shutdown for 9/11 to overloaded servers caused by release of a new cell phone app. Whatever it is, lets hope they fix it during maintainance…b ut do not look for responces here, ya aint gunna get em-just sayin

  7. You can say you are committed to helping make things better but Yahoo is mostly automated programs trolling for credit cards for porn. There are so many comments in Chat Help wondering how to get rid of them. You provide NO filters and lots would encourage friends to come to yahoo if you did filter. Too many have left because of that one problem alone. Actually not have voice in Messy has stopped other problems such as laggers, etc. You might help us stop that, too?

  12. messenger will not let me log in on my iphone. I have a iPhone 3gs. I have unistalled it and reinstalled and still it wont let me log in. Is there a server problem or is the app just broken…

  22. I’ve noticed that the sound you used to get when you minimised chat and someone sent you a message (a little squeak) is no longer there with the new Yahoo Mail. I’ve ticked the box that says something like ’sound alert when message arrives’ but it definitely isn’t working.

  42. For Yahelite to get Captcha, open it then go to the main Chat screen, go up to Options>Extended Options…if you do not see Extended Options, type in “/expert”, without the quotes first. Then in Extended Options, check mark in “Always use external browser for CAPTCHA” > OK. Shut it all down and restart Yahelite—-should help a lot…

Yahoo added many voice servers … that caused the issue with voice … We hope Yahoo!’s login issue is from them trying to stop the CAPTCHA name ban exploit , if they know about it … that’s why you might sit forever waiting for captcha to pop up .. but all in all .. click my name for help … I love you Yahoo!

  49. It’s almost 1 AM, and still can’t get into chatrooms. The announcement read that the maintenance work would end at 12:30, so why isn’t it working yet???

    Not even sure what gets fixed during a scheduled maintenance. Someone please provide answers for this frustrated chatroom addict.

  61. As a mac user, I know Yahoo never allowed voice chat for us – not a problem. I understand it is more noise than valuable conversation, anyway.

    This business of losing the chatters’ list is irritating, however and makes no sense why they would drop this feature.

    I, too, am having no luck in getting into any chat rooms. I pull up the menu listing for the room, click on the desired room,and this is what happens:

    exactly – nothing. No “Captcha” page. Zip.

    Come on, Yahoo! We know you can do it! Ganbarro, dayou! (giving encouragement to Yahoo – heck, I am doing anything possible!)

  65. It is a bit much to force users to use less than 15 character long names or aliases,It is also hard enough to make id’s that short with out running out very fast.

    This is not a fix…this is a quagmire of proportions that bespeak that yahoo has no intentions of making chat rooms a long term investment.

  68. At this point, Yahoo’s credibility has been lost and that’s sad, because when their chatrooms first come onto the scene, it was something of a marvel. Unfortunately, the company stopped improving their product and stopped listening to their customers. I know chatrooms are not their main source of revenue, but the banner ads on chat screen still brings in a good chunk of change for the company. This should motivate them to improve their product.

  72. Yahoo chat is still not letting me into the rooms. I have uninstalled and re-installed, cleared cache, temp files, restarted browser, ensured java is updated, flash, everything, and I still get the message can not login to… try again later. When I try again, it doesn’t even load the chat window to click on the ENTER CHAT button. I’m on Windows 7, 64-bit, though that shouldn’t matter.

  77. I am on an Intel iMac and never had voice, but as of yesterday, can’t get into any of the chat rooms – no warnings – no nothing – just choose the room and that “is all she wrote”.

    I changed my moniker to 14 letters – nothing different yet.

    It was bad enough to lose the Chatters’ List so when I enter a room, I do not know who is there – but this is a great way to get people to migrate over to Stickam instead, where Mac, Windoze and Unix compters all work well – all with audio, video and text.

    Oh, well. Keep on plugging away, I guess.

    Perhaps you should try an even shorter screenname!
