Yahoo! brings its Mail, Contacts, Instant Messaging and Calendar Sync

If you’re purchasing a shiny new Macbook with the latest OSX Lion just released you’ll find a seamless integration with some of your favorite Yahoo! products. On OSX Lion, the first time you open up your Mail application, Lion will ask if you’d like to setup your Yahoo! account. Once set up, you will have access to your Yahoo! Mail, Yahoo! Contacts, Yahoo! Calendar, and Yahoo! Messenger (embedded in iChat) services. Here’s a bit more details on how the individual Yahoo! products play with the new operating system:

Yahoo! Mail: Send mail to your friends directly from Apple’s Mail application. With our Mail service you can access your entire Mailbox and carry it anywhere you go. Read email on the web, on your phone, or on your Macbook and they all stay in sync.

Yahoo! Contacts: Yahoo! is the only partner that supports the tight Contacts service integration with OSX. All the Contacts in your Yahoo! Addressbook automatically flow down to your Macbook. The Contacts you add to your Apple address book are automatically backed up to Yahoo.

Yahoo! Calendar: Using Yahoo! Calendar with Apple’s iCal service enables you to streamline your life effortlessly. Share calendars with your family and stay in sync with them across your Apple devices or other Yahoo! Calendar enabled devices.

Yahoo! Messenger: Quickly chat real-time with your friends using Apple’s iChat product shipped with OSX. See which of your Yahoo! Messenger friends are online and reach out to them right from your computer.

Setup Yahoo! services on OSX Lion and instantly make your Macbook yours. Carry your information anywhere you go, and never lose your data backed up by Yahoo’s cloud services.

  1. I don’t think the integration will work for me because I use external mail accounts in Yahoo Mail and I have Windows Live contacts in messenger. The calendar and contacts is nice though.

  7. Too bad, iChat is buggy as hell … it doesn’t connect to Yahoo. I can change my status and my friends will see the change, but iChat will keep on displaying that I’m offline and the buddy list won’t appear.

  9. First, I have Lion and nothing changed. I didn’t have to import anything into Yahoo or change Yahoo or do anything at all to Yahoo, so I have no idea what they’re talking about.

    That said, the instructions for deleting a contact in mobile Messenger do not work when using 3.0.1 on a Mac. Either this is another case of a software company updating software but not instructions or writing instructions for only the inferior Windows platform. I do not text — EVER — and I get about 15 spam texts a day, which is just another set of worthless crap to delete off of another device.

  10. Please release a proper Yahoo Messenger for Mac. We still need photo sharing and voice chat in chatrooms. The chat room list also broke after your ‘maintenance.’

  15. Hello, YM developers. I hope you’d take a moment to read this. Some guy had written a program that could disable any one’s Yahoo Mail account — including those used for businesses.

    He posted this program on a forum website, where people share YM bootwares and hacking tips.

    I wanted to inform you as soon as possible that’s why I’m writing this here instead of through Customer Support.

    I won’t give you his online name and the link to the program here to avoid others from downloading his software, but I will give them to you through e-mail if you reply to me.

    Please you need to check this as he had already disabled many IDs, including my friends’ and mine. And since he already shared his software on the forum site, it’s possible that other people have downloaded it and are using it now.

    I’m worried that this might escalate to a point where many people would wonder why they could no longer open their e-mails or sign-in to Yahoo Messenger even though they’ve provided the correct username and password.

    I noticed that he posted his software early this month on the forum. Please, I need your response so I could give you the link and check it out for yourself. He might discover this letter and delete his post from the forum.

  16. Bad job at integration – the initial setup defaulted to POP and checked “remove messages from server”. Imagine my surprise when EVERY SINGLE LAST EMAIL was GONE from the online server. The exact reason I went to Gmail and IMAP. So now all of my old emails that I had for years exist solely on my Macbook Pro. Then I attempted to change the settings — nothing logs in anymore. Reverted changes — still no go. At this point, your “integration attempt” with OS X has ended up with all of my email missing and Mail.app being unable to even log in. This is why I keep everything important on Gmail.

  17. As of today iChat does not work with Yahoo Chat anymore giving the error message YRequestHTTPErrorDomain 403 and disconnecting. Please either continue development of Yahoo Messenger for Mac and release a final version or don’t cut off iChat’s integration with Yahoo Chat.

  21. Hi What has happenned to the link to yahoo chatrooms that has al;ways veen a feature of Messenger ever since your compant combine messenger and chat. Is the case the the Maintainance ,announced in mid-jun ,was just a cover for ditching chatlooms. it used to be posdible to chat to thousands of people all over the World. Now you seem to have restricted us to our current friend . Not quoite the open and free World Wide Web that all servers used to agree with . !st MSN, now your conpany are restricting the Net access free the free space it was to the Corporate cersorship we no have, And the Courtsb hve handed you the tools to ban sites you don.t like when, as a server (servant — serving) in a free Web you should offer access to the Net at the whim of the individual , not the Corporate view of biased and jaundiced executives Bob .   23. I would enjoy this more if I could find the notepad you joined with the calendar. You keep changing things and have a huge splash that tells me about things I do not want to know. Where is the information I wasnt to know? The help pages? I’ll go look, and I hope I can find it.

  24. Hi, first of all this iChat integration is even worse than the Y! Messenger for Mac, how about trying to release a proper version for Mac also, you already did it for iPhone (and it works great) I don’t know how the app is on iPad but i imagine it’s good also.

    first of all from iChat i can’t call (video or voice) anyone in my contact list (good work on that)

    try to improve the messenger for mac, it’s been more that a year since a version has been released.

  27. Please release an updated Mac client for Yahoo Messenger. Apple does not allow owners of previous versions of OS X to update their iChat client and the current Messenger application has been in beta for years. It is so buggy and I wish you would put out a version 4 that truly works.

  39. Please set up Yahoo messenger ( the stand alone app) to work with Apple’s OS Lion. i deleted the app accidentally, and just went to download Yahoo Messenger for Mac 3.0.1 and now it will not work.

    Please create a fix for this asap?

    This is because i prefer to use your web cam set up with my friends.
