Hi, thanks a lot for your support! This is what I’ve been waiting for.
I love the UI. For me it looks much better than the Iphone’s version. However, I found some big problems: (Motorola milestone, android 2.1)
- Can’t see the other side status (available)
- Can’t receive message from the other side. Only send.
Feature suggestion: icon on notification bar. It should change color when I have a coming message

first of all.. i want to thank yahoo! for providing this apps.. i have been waiting for a proper yahoo messenger apps on my motorola milestone all this while and yahoo! rally did a great job..
but still need more improvement like buzz function and more other options like changing own and others’ display names.. plus would love it if the enter key will enter the text instead of skipping one line..
the notification also could use setup interface because the notification + vibration is always on when running on background.. i dont think people really need that and if they do.. they can just turn it on and off whenever needed..
theres also some bug when transitioning between users list and chat page.. not too obvious but its there..
even with these comments.. im using it anyway coz i like the originals.. thanks again to yahoo!

I have had nothing but problems with this app. Keeps logging me out randomly, shows me as invisible to everyone when I am clearly not… and no answers anywhere. Not worth it.

I have an iphone 3G.
Please help needed ASAP.

I have been waiting for this for a long, long time ! However, I installed it on my Nexus One with Android 2.2 Froyo (FRF91 – latest) and all the contacts are shown as being offline. Also, the application does not support “aliases”…I don’t even know when I used my Yahoo username and when I used my alias when adding contacts…it’s gonna be a mess.
But…I have hope
Comment by Catalin — July 12, 2010 #
Nice release, unfortunally it doesn’t work properly.
First, it is showing me all the contacts are being online. (I have… hard to say, over 1,000 … close 1,500 contacts).
Secondly, I don’t receive any message. My message are received by the other party, but I don’t get back any message at all.
A nice feature to have is one to save battery when using 3G, like eBuddy has, where it checks for new messages every so minutes (5-10-15…).
Hopefully it gets fixed pretty quick and new features are added to it… till then, using eBuddy.

Very glitchy on Samsung Galaxy Spica with Android 2. The app keeps force closing.. messages are often not sent after clicking the “send” button.. needs to be debugged starting from basics..
Comment by Abhinav — July 17, 2010 #
It’s a good news that Yahoo messenger will be available on Android but there is some problems while using Yahoo messenger on phones that it automatically become invisible for contact if the Android will not have the same problems it would be great.
Comment by Android Blog — July 18, 2010 #
I am not sure if this is yahoo’s approach to make yahoo cross plateform or they are just making it open to develop plug-ins. I personally think yahoo messenger API is very outdated now, it was originally developed years ago. Probably you guys should rather make the protocol open and create a community project to develop a QT API based client on yahoo protocol. QT is the next Java in my opinion.

Glad to see an official Yahoo chat app for Android. Would be MUCH better if you add VoIP capability (like Skype mobile), so I can talk to my contacts. If I want to talk to people, I am still required to use my PC. What do you say?? PRETTY PLEASE??????

hi guys, I’m having problem with yahoo messenger, can’t sign in when using 3g connection, but works ok in wifi connection. do you also experience the same? after i see the “loading messenger contacts”…. i get a prompt “unable to sign in to messenger”. Any way to fix this? btw, im using an HTC desire unit and TELCO is Singtel.
Comment by Adrian — July 26, 2010 #
First of all great work !
From what I’ve read and from my experience, this release contains a bug. If the phone is not connected to a WiFi all contacts are offline and you can’t chat at all.

Why does it only allow you to log on with your primary account. I have a secondary account but when I log on with that screen name, it defaults to the primary account name. Otherwise a good app!
Comment by droid_user191 — August 16, 2010 #
I really like the app, but I’m having an issue sending photo attachments. Maybe I’m just dumb and there’s something I’m missing, but I’m trying to have a conversation with a friend who’s on an iPhone, and the photo attachment icons are grayed out and I can’t select them :S I know we’re chatting cross-platform but that shouldn’t be a problem, should it?

For hd2 owners, youcan go to xda-developers (dot) com to run android on your hd2s, so you can use this yahoo messenger app.

How do I UNinstall Yahoo Messenger from Droid X? Tried it; don’t want to keep it. I drag and drop it onto the delete “X” icon at bottom of apps screen but it won’t uninstall.
Comment by John B. — August 23, 2010 #
Hi, Guys,
Hope you are not confusing the world any more. Your product should be easy to use, handy and reletively cheap in the markets.
What opportunities do we have in Nigeria on using this new product. Remember the Black berry episode in Saudi Arabia recently?

Your Yahoo for android works just fine except I can’t figure out how to log off, sign out of messenger. Any help?
Comment by JR — August 27, 2010 #
Okay, figured it out, at least for my Captivate.
Exit messenger by touching the smiley face icon with your user name, upper left under “Y! Messenger”. It opens a pull down menu with Available; Busy, Invisible to everyone and (duh) Sign out of messenger.
