Hi Everyone,
Our voice and video services will be unavailable on Wednesday, June 30th between 2:30 to 4:30pm PST, due to network maintenance . This means you will not be able to use Yahoo! Messenger to make or receive voice and video calls during this time.
This is one of the steps towards improving the performance of our services and your continued patience is greatly appreciated.

I just signed up for Yahoo Messenger to chat with someone overseas. Is there a tutorial on using Voice & Video calls? Or a FAQ? I don’t even see an icon to select this option.

I dont know what yahoo did with the maintenance but in UAE, on Etisalat connection Yahoo Voice and Video buttons are disabled. We cannot use Calls now.

Hi everyone, maintenance has been completed and our voice and video services are up and running.
For users who are experiencing trouble with voice & video, it could be due to a variety of reasons. As a first step to rectify the issue, please log out, exit Messenger and re-login. Wait for a couple of minutes after login and check if the call button is enabled. If the call button is still grayed out, please allow us to assist you by following the steps below:
1. Click “Help” on the Menu Bar -> “Report a Problem to Yahoo!”
2. If you do not already have the option enabled, please exit Messenger and re-login.
3. Click “Help” -> “Report a Problem to Yahoo!”
4. Select “Voice Calls to Computer” as a category and “Call button is always grayed out” as a sub category.
5. Describe details of your problem and click “Send to Yahoo!”
We apologize for any inconvenience caused and will look into the issues as soon as we hear from you.

I have already launched complain with the same procedure mentioned above with no reply uptil now
Our ISP Etisalat is blocking SIP since long
Is this could be a reason for disabled call buttons as it could not reach the SIP server

I am using yahoo messenger in windows vista in Dubai. till last week my messenger was working fine and i used to make voice calls to other PC. but from last week, voice call and video call tabs are disabled and i could not able to receive the webcam from other end. kindly let me know whats the problem and the solution to rectify.

My yahoo messenger is crashing totally beginning on July 3. The video call button is gray and as soon as I make a voice call and after the first ring, the messenger stops working. So annoying. Before the 3rd everything was working fine. Please, help.

i am deom dubai and my provider is etisalat..
yahoo voice and video calls were perfect and i used to recomend people to use yahoo messenger , but now after your maintenance the buttons and grayed out and many of my freinds moved from yahoo and using other mesenger ,,
since yaho was working it was very useful , please find a solution or advice
i have send many reports to yahoo from help option but still 4 days now its same … buttons are grayed out

Hello, I thought that my and my friend’s computer has a problem coz I experienced the same problem too. Voice call is disabled while I can’t see the video cam of my friend from other computer (but good thing he can see me). Hope this can be fixed soon. Thanks.

I too think Etisalat has blocked the service. Neither the yahoo voice nor the yahoo pc to pc is working in Dubai.
No reply received from yahoo so far.

Hi Everyone,
Quick update on this – We have looked into the reports logged from our users and upon investigation, verified that VOIP has been disabled because select ISPs appear to be blocking this service intentionally. This unfortunately is not within Yahoo!’s control and it would be best to reach out to your local ISPs directly.

Here in dubai since July 3, 2010 until now the voice call and video call is grayed and i could not make any calls PC to PC. I thought my computer is the prob but i think my server Etisalat blocked the service. Please yahoo make solution for this,its unfair…

i spoke to etisalat customer care and they told me that they have not blocked pc-pc voice calls. he suggested me to add proxy in the ie setting and also in yahoo messenger connection preferences. i have done it and it was working for 3 days. from today onward again the call buttons are grayed out and when i move mouse over that it is displaying that other party’s configuration doesn’t support voice or video calls. strange!!!

sorry..it was my mistake. today i changed mozilla as my default browser and didnt add the proxy settings in mozilla. after doing so , yahoo is working perfectly.sorry yahoo for misunderstanding you..:)

set the proxy in firefox..tools–options–advanced–network–settings–manually configure proxy.
then enter the proxy as proxy1.emirates.net.ae and port 8080
then signout yahoo.. click on messenger–connection preferences–then check connect via proxy server and http proxy..
done..

Dear Sir,…
I heard from some friends that Etisalat company in UAE will block all the yahoo services starting from 11-October 2010.
Is that Right and if so why is that and how can we avoid that.

the voice and video calls are blocked in the yahoo messenger after the scheduled maintenance on 30th June. Etiasalat may have blocked the servers. Another user here in Sharjah has reported that only video is enabled . its such a good service to make pc to pc calls and it is so unfortunate that we are not able to make use of it.

turn off all the advertizements
it hinders the video call
it talks up to much menory that it freezes.

It works, thanks Pascal…just change the proxy setting in the browser via LAN then go to the main yahoo messenger, click messenger and choose preference, connection and connect via proxy server. it really works!!!

To People who all are still facing problem in “Video call” option greyed out,changing proxy of your default browser and the same changes in YM will help to enable the “Video call”.I am using Etisalat connection and i have no problems in using the same so far.If you really donno how to changet the setting you can message my in my YM so that i can try to help you to change the settings and test the call. Yes. The proxy solution works. I’m from Dubai, using Etisalat as ISP. First find out which is you default web browser (Internet Explorer or Mozilla Firefox or something else). Then give the proxy as proxy1.emirates.net.ae. After, in Yahoo Messenger select Messenger —> Connection Preferences——-> Connect via proxy server —–> HTTP Proxy. Click Ok. Then re login. You are done

hi im from the philippines.. i installed the latest version of yahoo messenger 11. i can make pc-pc calls. the problem is i cannot put the call on hold, neither my partner can on the other end. it says “cannot put call on hold”. so we need to hang up then ring again to resume. what seems to be the problem?

Yesterday my yahoo voice (in chatrooms) was working, and today it’s not. I haven’t made any changes to my computer since then and wonder if you can help me find out why this happened? I cannot hear others talk in rooms, nor can I talk..I also can’t even see the little voice icon on their names in the chatroom lists. I have rebooted yahoo and also rebooted my computer, but still no voice chat??
