  4. Another example of why Yahoo has failed and Google has taken over. I have lost count but this must be like the 10th beta version of version 3 for the Mac and its only taken 5 years to get here. If you are not going to develop it just kill it and be done with it. I guess you could also dump it on Microsoft and let them develop it, oh wait thats what you did with search. Lame!

  5. finally, thank you! but i’m expecting more upgrades.

  6. I’m a big Yahoo fan since the 90’s but I’ve gotta agree with Alex on this one…

Yahoo — You’ve gotta either get on the horse, or get off… Straddling Mac people (the most crazy, nutcase, and zealous of all) along with beta after beta after beta is just disheartening and somewhat insulting.

I have all Apple stuff yet I still use Yahoo for search and e-mail despite the white, shiny, fancy “Google” whitebox in Safari welcoming my next query. Yet I still use Yahoo. Does that make me crazy?!

Yahoo’s gotta show some love to the Mac community if they (Yahoo) want Mac community love in return.

  8. 6 years later and YM for Mac 3.0 is still in beta?

That’s impressive, you just beat Gmail for longest beta software cycle…

    Comment by Paul — March 26, 2010 #

  9. Thank you for fixing the display image issue. It was quite annoying to set my avatar each time I logged in.

    Comment by Lucky — March 27, 2010 #

  10. I find it quite appalling that the Y! Messenger for mac contains tabbed IMs and has a cleaner UI. Secondly…why should mac users be faced without obtrusive advertising? I’m sorry to say that this is unfair and very biased.

    Comment by Derrek — March 29, 2010 #

  11. All these new versions are great (as far as I can see) but what about a new version for New Zealand? Australia has one and they are only next door. I only have Yahoo!Xtra messenger 8 and it doesn’t work at the moment. I want 10. We don’t have any other version available here. Why why why? We want it too!

    Comment by Jules — March 30, 2010 #

  12. this version is just as buggy as the last.

crashes everytime i log into another account.

    Comment by jenny — March 30, 2010 #

  13. @Alex Rodriguez

Yeah, google talk does even have voice on Mac. so what are you trying to say? No cool smileys. Not even close to features of Yahoo! Messenger for Mac.

@Messenger team. thanks for the update. still waiting for the next one. I hope you would release the final version soon with a lot more feature

    Comment by tosh — March 30, 2010 #

  14. This version is worse than the last… I think all Mac users should boycott Yahoo!

    Comment by po'd — March 31, 2010 #

  15. ok.. so can you please tell me why Y! Messenger for Mac randomly decides when the webcam will and will not work? i used it a week ago.. now no matter who i talk to I have no option to broadcast webcam.. i thought if i updated to the “latest BETA version” i might have some resolution.. but.. no. I mean really.. it is so buggy. I’ll stick to my iChat and delete my Y! account because this is beyond ridiculous.. Step it UP!!

  21. I just saw the blog announcement of the image fixes…

Humbug. Doesn’t work for me either. What’s really sad, is I’m sure older versions of YM had more features for the Mac, such as the ability to share photos with IBM users.

    Yahoo just doesn’t care anymore.

  28. The latest build (3.0.1.35554) on Leopard (10.5.8) – I have lost the functionality of BUZZ a.k.a CMD-G

    Comment by Anton — April 15, 2010 #

  29. I can confirm the buzz issue! That’s just hilarious..
I’ll give up soon on Yahoo mail and Yahoo Messenger.. they don’t care about us anymore..

    Comment by Aetherius — April 16, 2010 #

  30. Buzz does work for me if I use the pull–down menu. Still no joy with the display image problem, however. Is it working with other people?

    Comment by RenoDavid — April 16, 2010 #

  31. This is so wack. I’m done with yahoo as soon as I finish selling my buddy list on google talk and skype.

    Comment by Fred — April 19, 2010 #

  32. there’s not enuf room for good and more stylish UI for XP version. …dough! mac ahead!

    Comment by dwiRianto — April 23, 2010 #

  33. Yeah, the Mac version of Messenger is in eternal beta moving from tiny version to tiny version over the years, but at least the functions that matter are there (IM and voice). I don’t care for IMVironments, Audibles and all that crap, and when I’m on Win I always disable them.

Sure, the new video-call thing sounds nice (but that’s what Skype is for), and the photosharing is something I often miss. And the webcam ‘option’ is a joke compared to other services.

Other than that, the UI is quite pretty and Mac-like, without all the messy clutter that is the Win version, and I’d rather have it like this.

Among my friends there is a slow but palpable trend of moving towards Gtalk (and 90% of them are on Windows). The Win client of Gtalk is quite developed, while on the Mac… there is no official client. I use Adium or iChat. (iChat is a very good choice if you have other friends using iChat, voice and video chat work quite amazingly – better than Skype).

Anyway, 3.0 Beta is fine as long as it works and has the basic functions for IMing.

  34. i have been a Yahoo fan since the 90s and still an avid user of ur email service, however your messenger service is not update…and there is either a bug or a problem with the voice service, i know a lot of friends who decided against using Yahoo…..and honestly speaking i think Yahoo doesn’t even care anymore to provide some minimal quality service.FIX YOUR VOICE SERVICE.

    Comment by Ra — May 5, 2010 #

  35. OK….the display image thing is working properly again. Just noticed today. Cool!

    Comment by RenoDavid — May 9, 2010 #

  36. Well, for me the YM works seamlessly on Snow Leopard (10.6.2). Not much difference, but some crashes i had seen before are gone. So, quite a nice experience.

Just waiting for Photo Share, and i don’t need anything else. Sarah, please see when you can get it here, coz am quite a fan of Yahoo for it’s messenger.

  37. I have tried 3.0 latest beta for mac,it was working fine for me but after upgrading to latest 10.6.4 SL i am facing hanging issues when replying in the chat box.It hangs for a minute and than send the message to recipient.

  38. Still having the same display image problems that have been an issue for the past year. Tired of Mac users being second class citizens!!!

    Comment by MAB — July 9, 2010 #

  39. On a 10.5.8, the March build crashes often as in once in a couple of days. I judiciously send in a report. I wonder when the next build is due ? Why cant the mac developers put out weekly builds and call it beta-builds ?

    Comment by Anton — July 14, 2010 #
