Y!M has really come a long way. Video calls are so crisp now and the Y! Updates is a great new feature. Can’t wait to see what comes out next

now let our nicknames (when changed in our yahoo profiles) show in yahoo chat. This should be a basic fix.

Why the program’s icon still 48×48, not 256×256 compatible in Windows Vista/7?
Comment by Peteh — March 2, 2010 #
Windows Aero support?

For God’s sake! Do you still have plans on releasing the final version of Y! Messenger for MAC???
Comment by f — March 3, 2010 #
how about an update to stop bots from sending us porn links…how about an update to stop bots from filling up rooms..i did not know yahoo wanted to be known as a leader in spam and porn…you do not address the real issues…only issue you have is to pretty up yahoo messenger…yahoo messenger is a huge failure compared to other messenger programs.

I appreciate this free chatroom service.. no complaints here.
Comment by winsock.kernel — March 3, 2010 #
Still no tabs, and the alt+space bug is still there.
You guys aren’t even trying…
I never thought that a bug would keep me from upgrading to a newer version of Messenger.
I’m just too used to pressing ALT+SPACE and then “N” to minimize.
In Messenger 10, if you hold ALT and press SPACE, nothing happens.
So… I’m staying with Yahoo Messenger 9.

On an XP PC with a logitech webcam, with yahoo msgr 10.0.0.1241 installed – no video call button on any contact (on 10 as well). Yahoo webcam detect ok, but webcam doesn’t work with IM. I saw you had this bug in early 10 beta versions – I thought this was fixed… Can you point me in the right place to fix? Reinstall didn’t work. Uninstall, registry dive to remove all keys related to yahoo IM, then reinstall didn’t work either!

Dear Staff;
Early this morning while using the current Yahoo! Messenger 10…
I had attempted to initiate my web cam it crashed every time within an IM window…
While the web cam is active it’s to large that it blows it off my monitor…
I can’t even type a message & I can barely see the audibles…
@ the present moment I’m still using WIN XP Pro SP3.
What shall I do to recuperate from or correct this situation of mine?
Thank you!

Version 10 yahoo cam wont work on version 9 yahoo. Haven’t yahoo programmers heard of backward compatability?
Comment by william — March 5, 2010 #
backward compatibility a must yes.. one problem that remains is the link used to actually combat malicous users in a chatroom no longer works in january it worked like a charm an d those users got what they deserved for messing up chat rooms i would like to see this chat room abuse link return but only first respone to those with premium account or long power user status
Comment by Anthony — March 6, 2010 #
It already has backwards compatibility. In the IM windows go to the Actions menu then More Actions then either View Webcam or Invite To View My Webcam.
Comment by Mikey — March 6, 2010 #
Can we please get Aero support? YM is the only app I run that doesn’t have it, and it really makes it look so amateurish.
Comment by fd — March 6, 2010 #
it still sucks because we can’t maximise the main yahoo messenger window. why did yahell take off this option?

i can’t get the latest version on my hp computer touch screen running vista to run. It crashes within 30 seconds of starting – every time.
Help! I miss it! How can I load an older version?
Comment by spencer stone — March 8, 2010 #
the video call is still blurry and slow with most of the users i make calls with. no one really uses video calls anyway everybody still using the regular webcams in chats so i dont know what’s the fuss about video calls.
what really need to be fixed is the fact that the nickname and location on profile dont get updated on the chat room’s list. Also when i try deleting one of the alias to make a new one,an error keeps poping up saying “oops! looks like our servers sleeping again-try again laters”-this error is for a year by now since april 2009 when u launched the new profiles so i cant make any new alias for a year.
also the voice chat in the chat room keeps getting disconnected saying that there is an error in voice servers.
video calls are the last thing that bothers me.

This updated version needs to be fixed still cuz when I installed it on my pc which I have Windows Vista it was installing and then after gave me an error and when I click on the icon it won’t do anything and then I noticed that it removed it off my computer when I didn’t uninstall it so I ended up restoring my pc 2 days earlier to get the 10.0.0.1102 us version back.
Comment by Christina — March 8, 2010 #
** Test Plugins load now! ** – For anyone still running the 542 beta build because your test plugins didn’t work with 1102… mine are loading and working now with 1241, so give it a try!

Yahoo has come a long way the past few years. It definitely has –the best– emoticons out there, for those who enjoy that. It is definitely lacking in some areas tho.
– Lack of AERO support / default system theme.
– No TABS. Common now, this should have been implemented years ago. Even AIM has this.
– Nick names in message window, instead of email.
The OS X version of Y! Messenger has message window themes/styles. Implement this in the Windows 7 version.
– Jump lists for Windows 7. It’s about time this happens.
– Custom emoticon’s option ala WLM.
– Feature to send voice messages.
I can’t stress this enough, the User Interface that Y! Messenger currently uses, looks like it’s been designed by Fisher Price. Update your client to be more modern!

Hey, when are you guys gonna make the new version(10) for imac computer ? I would like to know please, because my 3.0 version isn’t working anymore, i don’t know whats wrong with it, I tried shutting it down, restarting my computer and its still not working.
Please and thank you.

This version is also causing crash in Win 7 with MSVCR80.dll version 8.0.50727.4927 even though the install was successful. I did check winsxs and see it there as well as 4 other version. Then I copied this dll to system32 folder. Now we wait.
Good luck with everyone else.

I tried to log onto yahoo messenger and couldn’t so I had to download messenger 10. That went well. I tried logging in and it let me, I saw an offline message and the today window, and all my contacts, then immediately a window told me that windows had to shut it down. What is up with that?
Comment by Becky — March 22, 2010 #
an additional observation about yMessenger 9 and 10…. I notice that the LOG-ON/off/ON-Off problem is not as severe on computers using XP as it is on VISTA or WIN7 systems….. For those vista and win7 users, my suggestion is only: stick with version 8 untill Yahoo solves this problem with their 9 and 10 versions.

Using the new YM 10.0.0.1241-US version. The keyboard shortcut to MINIMIZE and MAXIMIZE
Comment by Venky — April 12, 2010 #
Using the new YM 10.0.0.1241-US version. The keyboard shortcut to MINIMIZE and MAXIMIZE do not work with both YM App and individual chat windows. The workaround is to press Alt-M followed by Left Arrow followed by ‘n’ ket. Anyone know about a patch or a fix to this problem?
Comment by Venky — April 12, 2010 #
Always been happy with Yahoo until this version which logs in and out every few mins which effectively means I have stopped using it and gone back to MSN…. at least MSN works.

Give me Aero theme for Yahoo messenger and keep the current UGLY theme as optional if someone likes it….
