Yahoo! Messenger 10: Final version now available

November 12, 2009 on 7:37 pm | In 10 version | 189 Comments

Thanks to all of you who tried out Yahoo! Messenger 10 during the Beta period and provided feedback about your experience.

As of today, Yahoo! Messenger 10 is no longer in Beta. You can download the final version from our website. This latest version (10.0.0.1102) incorporates many bug fixes, including some related to our new video call feature. We’ve also improved the overall stability of the product.

If you’re a Windows 7 user, you’ll be glad to know this version is compatible with the new operating system.

Below is a summary of the features that are in Yahoo! Messenger 10. Be sure to watch the demo video at the end of this article for a quick tour.

High-quality video calls
We’ve completely redesigned our 1:1 webcam feature (under the hood too). Now you can make a high-quality video call to a friend with synched audio, right in the IM window. Features include the ability to swap video windows, position the video windows side-by-side, mute the call or place it on hold. You can even go full-screen with your video call. To get started, click the new “Video Call” button in the IM window (your friend also needs to be on Yahoo! Messenger 10). Tips for making video calls | Having fun with video effects

New “Y! Updates” view of your contact list
People are busy these days, doing all sorts of interesting things online. To help you keep up with your friends, we added an alternate view of your contact list that shows a real-time stream of their updates, including Messenger status message changes. If they’ve opted-in to share their updates via Yahoo!, you’ll be able to see what they’re saying on Twitter, reading on Yahoo! Buzz, listening to on last.fm, and more.

We also added additional features for how and when you see your friends’ updates. When a new update comes in, a “toast” alert will pop up in the lower right corner of your screen. If you want to disable these, go to Messenger > Preferences > Yahoo! Updates. You can turn alerts on and off and even update preferences by contact or by type of update.

Find more to chat about
Within the new “Yahoo! Updates” view, you’re sure to find more to talk about with your friends. To make it easy, we added a hover menu that lets you quickly IM a friend about their update. When you do, the update appears inline in the conversation window, so when you start your IM with “I can’t believe you like this song!”, your friend will know what you’re talking about. Note that your friend needs to also be on Yahoo! Messenger 10 to see the update inline.

Change your language easily
If you use the U.S. version but wish it could be in your local language, you’re in luck. When you start up Yahoo! Messenger 10, you’ll notice a new language menu on the sign-in screen. Choose from 16 different languages and the buttons, menus and various parts of the interface will change to that language. If you’re already signed in, you can also change your language under Messenger > Preferences > Language (you’ll have to restart Yahoo! Messenger for it to take effect).

Download Yahoo! Messenger 10

As with any new release, we welcome your feedback about what’s working well for you and what’s not. After using Yahoo! Messenger 10 for a bit, go to the Help menu and select “Send Feedback” to get started.

  5. I’m sorry, but from what I saw on the other post, everyone was requesting system integration with Vista and 7. Did you listen to all those people and made a skin that looks like it’s from the same operating system?

    Comment by Lucretiu — November 13, 2009 #

  6. This isn’t an valid update. (its more like an adware)
Ok so what about all the people that requested the remove of Y! Updates because those people like me have other better things to do beside making traffic on yahoo sites!!!!!!

And what about Y inside I see appears too on the interface?

Can those 2 feature be removed by the user as I requested on the beta and so other people?

From what I see this is just an update meant to bring more revenue to yahoo…

If I wold like to see what others are doing I wold use tweeter, face book and so on…

I believe that Y! Updates uses RAM (and considering I don’t need it) so no performance update.

    No interface needed update!

    No integration with Win 7.

  8. Whenever you instant message a user that is offline. You see this message

“username appears to be offline and will receive your messages after signing in. You can also send a message to username’s mobile phone.
    Send an SMS Message (Ctrl+T)”

Is that really necessary? I mean what if the person isn’t mobile or offline. Maybe they’re just invisible.

I plan to use it a lot.

However, what happened to the chat room > “Salsa para los Rumberos”.

This chat room brought people from all over the globe who have a passion for Salsa music.

    Thank you!

  13. So, Yahoo’s idea of a new version is to just mix up the features and call it a new version? Get on the ball! Everyone else has already caught on to Windows 7, why can’t Yahoo? Oh, that’s right, Yahoo isn’t capable of doing the right thing. Which is the reason for canning the WPF version of Yahoo, which was leaps and bounds better than this crappy rehash of a client they continue to push out since 2004. You’re not fooling me by simply calling it “10″. When I know in reality, it’s just version 8.2.

  14. I know that not everybody love the transparency, but why yahoo can’t integrate with 7 look, or make skins for all kinds of users?

  15. I downloaded the final release of Y!M 10 (coming from the very first Y!M 10 Beta release) a few hours ago, used it since then and everything seems to be good so far. No lag, no crashing whatsoever. I really don’t understand why some people keep complaining about Yahoo! Messenger. Firstly – correct me if I’m wrong but the service was mainly designed to keep in touch with family and friends by IMing, voice chatting and now thanks to the newest version, we can also video chat in high quality video. IMO, those are the main and best features most people would use. Other things are just gimmicks if you ask me.

  20. Thanks for this wonderful update, but still… You’ve finished a new Windows version in merely a few months, but you are still keeping the Mac version in beta since last year, or more. Please, don’t give the Mac users to damn… We really need a new version too.
I’m currently using Windows, Mac AND Linux. To ask for a Linux version it’s like asking for a cat to bark, you won’t do it anyway, but please… Put a bit your effort into the Mac version too.
    Many thanks! ^^

You really disappointed me…this version doesn’t have Romanian language …a large percentage of Romanian use Yahoo Messenger so I was hopping that the final version will include Romanian language…I see that Yahoo doesn’t care about others countries who have many users of yahoo since we doesn’t have even http://yahoo.ro .

  24. I selected custom install and unchecked all the boxes, but it didn’t seem to pay any attention to my requests. Changed my home page, added as a search provider in IE8, and put an icon on my desktop. Thankfully it didn’t install toolbar crap, but its still pretty jarring and annoying.

    Comment by Jason Baginski — November 13, 2009 #

  25. Well, the install of YM 10.0…1102us went fine for me BUT see my earlier post. The FULL version that I dl’ed from FileHippo.com DID NOT have any boxes to uncheck about the toolbar, etc., so I was worried at first but the install went fine and my homepage is still the same and nothing else added, at least not as far as I can see and none of my security programs alerted to anything else being changed except for adding YM. For others reading this, read my earlier comment and clean up your computer after uninstalling the older version (preferably using Revo Uninstaller) and then clean your registry and then download the FULL version from FileHippo and you should get a nice clean install. Don’t forget to go through all the Preferences Menu and get things back to how you like since YM will also go back to their default settings on a new install.

  35. Figures.

No Aero, Jumplist, or Pinned Taskbar support. No shocker there, I mean, they STILL use XP on every freakin’ machine in their company I guess, since ALL their screenshots of the latest yahoo are taken from an XP machine, after all.

And it seems it doesn’t even listen to your options during install, either! Forcing it’s toolbars, start pages, etc on you and screwing up your computer’s configuration!

Yahoo has officially abandoned its users, if Pidgin supported webcam over Yahoo protocol, I’d uninstall Yahoo in a heartbeat and never look back. At least Pidgin themes properly with Aero and doesn’t slow my machine nearly as bad or invade my computer’s configuration.

  36. ***WARNING *** to anyone using a test plugin. They are no longer working as of this released version (v10.0.0.1102) of YIM. Prior betas up to this version still work with test plugins. Until this is fixed (or Yahoo starts the plugin dev program back up), I will be reverting to a previous version.

  37. I upgraded to this version on my laptop that uses Vista and now I can’t even get it to load. When I was installing it I got an error message saying that I didn’t have rights to run the icalc.dll or something like that but it still installs it. When I try to run it I keep getting an error message saying that it “Can’t load the resource DLL”. It doesn’t even show up on the programs list so that I can uninstall it and try to install it again which I tried to do anyway but I still get the same error messages. Until you provide me with a fix I will not be upgrading it on my desktop because it doesn’t work at all!

    Comment by Gaby — November 15, 2009 #

  50. I foolishly downloaded the new version because this post had ‘Works with Windows 7′ as a feature. 50% of the time when I try to start it on Win7 it freezes on startup – I can’t even kill it from the Task Manager or by logging out so I instead have to completely reboot my computer!! NO other program crashes this badly on my Windows 7 laptop.

Compatible with Windows 7? I think not!! Even when it does run, there’s no Aero support. While every other program sports the ‘new’ (OK, 4 years old) Aero look and feel, Yahoo! Messenger still has its own horrible skins. They might have been cutting-edge for Windows 95, but on Windows 7 they look utterly horrible.

Jumplist support? Windows Live Messenger allows me to do all kinds of things from the taskbar. Yahoo! Messenger has ZERO jumplist support and doesn’t follow Windows 7’s design guidelines at all.

The new video calling is nice enough, the rest of the features are pretty useless. Yahoo! should forget about trying to imitate Facebook/Twitter and concentrate on making a decent client that is reliable, looks good, and integrates into Windows properly.

    Comment by Natalie — November 15, 2009 #

  51. AnOldMan > does 8 at least leave the aero window borders alone? I’m afraid I don’t have an installer for 8 laying around, and I last used it way back in XP days, so I don’t how it fares with windows 7.

I agree with the majority here this should not be final.. it says windows 7 support but there is nothing ground breaking about this for windows 7 users.. no jump lists and yeah it needs aero and need to be redesigned to be considered a jump from version 9 to 10. what did they do? just add a bunch of different icons and a new way of video conferencing.. i also noticed that some of the new icons are not present in certain areas so u have a mix of the new and old ones.. this makes it look like a not finished product.

  66. Hi,
Well, Sarah Bacon (Product Manager) says that it supports Windows 7. Then why dont they mention it on their website main page. It shows the system requirements as Windows XP, Vista. I beleive that Yahoo would have had its hands on win7 many many months before, like RTM version or something of that sort. I still have the Y!9 on my win7 running pretty ok… and after reading all these comments i dont dare to spoil my brand new Win7 laptop by installing this crap.
Yahoo! went too commercial and have already crossed the line since long back when they first started to show ads, plug-ins and insider on the main window. Sure, we can hide plugins and insider, but wht abt Ads?? I like a chat client to be simple and light weight just like Gtalk. I only use yahoo because of my friends who still use yahoo.
I mean common guys… its V10! you should have done more…. It should have actually been like an automobile manufacturer launching a new generation of its famous model… not just adding a tail light modification.
May be you are making good revenues with your messenger versions, but you are just lagging way behind in terms of user satisfaction!
My next yahoo messenger upgrade will only be when it launches a fully tested and compatible with Win7 version. I would be even more happier if it launches a 64 bit version…. common guys… wake up….!! we are entering 2010… Its not a crime to ask more people friendly technology!!!

“If you are not here to win… then you are just a TOURIST!!!”

  67. This version of Yahoo Messenger it’s version 8 with 10 instead of 8. It brings not so much new things. I hope you will be working to version 11 since version 10 is a crap…and in the future you should retire all versions 8,9,10 and leave only the 11 version which will be a completely new designed version who will satisfy all yahoo users with new design and more languages. Thx for listening my complains.

    Comment by a person from Romania... — November 17, 2009 #

  68. Ok people from Yahoo, what do you want? I mean, look at all those comments. 67 , with mine 68. Why aren’t you listening, huh? Is it that hard to make some changes so that the users would apreciate your client more?

It can’t be that hard to introduce Aero look. Or Tabbed windows. If you’ll continue with this attitude, you’ll get nothing. You don’t have the only IM Client on the market. I upgraded from v9 to v10 hoping I would find even a fraction of what I wanted. I’ve sent you feedback , but what if?
I’m just a worthless IM user, and you have all the good ideas and everything you say is good, isn’t it?

C’mon! Is it that hard to give a reply?

We don’t need the Y!Updates tab. We don’t want ads. We don’t want these skins. If you wanna do something right, that do this :

    Add an Aero look
Add Tabbed windows ( like in the Y!M for Vista)
    Remove Ads
    Remove the Y!Updates Tab

  69. If file transfers and photo sharing isn’t fixed then I don’t think I care very much.

The file transfer and photo sharing issues have been a persistant issue for a long long time now, we’re talking a couple of years at least.. and it’s never been fixed.

I can transfer fine in AIM, MSN, Google Chat and some third party clients like pidgin do well too, but yahoo fails .. if I retry the file 2-3 .. sometimes 8-10 times.. then it goes.

I saw no comment about fixing that so i’ll assume it’s not since I’ve not had a chance to upgrade yet.

  71. Dear Staff;

Early this morning while using the current Yahoo! Messenger 10…

I had attempted to initiate my web cam it crashed every time within an IM window…

While the web cam is active it’s to large that it blows it off my monitor…

    I can’t even type a message & I can barely see the audibles…

@ the present moment I’m still using WIN XP Pro SP3.

What shall I do to recuperate from or correct this situation of mine?

    Thank you!

  73. You should listen to your users, yahoo messenger team, not ignore them. Nothing has changed since beta. I find version 8 much more apealing than than version 9/10. The 10th version of ym should have been something “big”, not a 9.x version. If version 8 will get retired, i too will retire using ym. Good job team!

    Comment by Alex — November 18, 2009 #

  74. Not very impressed with the new version. Seems like Yahoo Messenger doesn’t have a strong vision behind it, and is more and more turning into bloatware. Look at the current leaders in software – Google, Apple, Microsoft – all concentrating on making things smaller and faster and more user-friendly. A few of my complaints:

Photo Sharing – this does not work smoothly, and is often very buggy and stalls, requiring a lot of restarts. Also, users on Macs aren’t able to use this feature, which is one of the few things that makes YM stand out from the competition.

Controlling who sees you as invisible/visible also seems kind of buggy, with people who I’m supposed to be invisible to seeing me as online and saying ‘Hi!’, while others who I want to be visible to ask me why I’m invisible when I message them.

There was also something in the version 10 hype about ‘watching videos together’ but I don’t see the feature anywhere, and I do think it would be neat to actually be watching the same video at the same time, (for example, so the other person sees when the other rewinds, or pauses).

    Comment by fd — November 18, 2009 #

  75. @fd – The feature where you can watch videos together is in version 9 and 10. When you share a video link from a video service like YouTube or Yahoo! Video in your IM conversation, the video appears inline in the conversation window. If the video type is supported by the Zync plug-in (e.g. YouTube and Yahoo! Video), a yellow “Watch With Me” button appears in the video window. Click that and the Zync plug-in launches. Not every video type is supported by the Zync plug-in – only Yahoo! Video, Flickr and YouTube. So if you’re sharing a video from another service, the Watch With Me button will not appear. More info here:

  76. Ok, thanks Sarah, I will have to try that next time the opportunity comes up. I would like to see it support more video (especially uploaded from an individual’s computer), but that’s interesting.

    Thanks for your reply.

    Comment by fd — November 18, 2009 #

  77. First, I find it extremely disturbing that your setup changed my browser default page and search engine after I explicitly unchecked those options.

Second, 50Mb Working Set? Really? Outlook 2010 takes less than that. Word 2010 takes up 20Mb of memory and probably has magnitudes of features more than your application. Please add a Lite SKU, no plugins, no audibles, no “Y! Updates”, no “skins”, no chat… just a thin, fast IM client.

Third, native theme support (Aero on W7, XP Theme, etc). I’m sure “custom skinning engines” were all the hype back in 2000, but Windows’ theming technology is mature enough now to satisfy most users’ requirements.

  86. Please stop making new versions with bloat features that nobody wants. The only reason you made a new (major) version of messenger was to include a new video chat system.
The users have been asking for such a long time to get tabbed conversation windows. Why don’t you implement that?
We want innovations that make Messenger easier to use, not things that would make it run slower.
    So please… WE WANT TABS!

  89. Firstly, sorry for this post being off topic

Ms. Sarah Bacon – may I ask why Yahoo! has abandoned the Messenger-All-Stars Group? I say abandoned because there is no activity since Dec. 2008 and also, no new topics are allowed.

It is really sad that you abandoned the Group and everything that included the Y!M All-Stars program. Every single detail regarding to the Y!M Power User program was there to find but now, everything’s “dead”/expired. Sorry if I keep asking but can you please tell me what (if any) the future plans are for the program? I want to know if there still is hope for it to be active and please don’t tell me you have no news because I know you do. If Yahoo doesn’t know, then who does? And I am sure I’m not the only one who wants to know what is going on.

I can already tell that I won’t get any reply from you, in fact I’m 99% sure I won’t get any response but as a old Yahoo! messenger user who uses Yahoo Messenger and lots of your services on a daily basis, I keep hoping to get a clear answer regarding to my simple question. Thank you.

  91. Hi,
Well, Sarah Bacon (Product Manager) says that it supports Windows 7.

  125. @graeme – The issue is that you have an AT&T Yahoo! ID, and version 10 is not yet available for AT&T Yahoo! users. But here’s how to get around it. Go to yahoo.com and make sure you are SIGNED OUT of Yahoo!. Then go to http://messenger.yahoo.com/download/win and download it again. You’ll get access to 10. Basically you need to not identify yourself as an AT&T user when you go to the download page. Thanks,

  127. I’ve been a long time Yahoo! Messenger user, since at least 2002, and have enjoyed seeing the new updates every version, even including the short-lived Yahoo! Messenger for Vista, which I quite liked. While some of the changes were frustrating, such as the custom status dialog disappearing and becoming a small text field, and the ‘profile’ system becoming less useful (including the omitting of the Nickname field, which was useful for chat – I predict a complete omission of chat eventually)…

I have to admit, the new Status/Update menu is beautiful because I can see all the status changes from friends, and since many of my friends use statuses for when they’re out of the house or asleep, I can see what time they set it and everything. These features are really helpful, and I’m looking forward to seeing what 11 could implement if it’s integrated into Windows 7 like AIM and MSN already are. And the new video call feature is nice because it’s finally integrated into the IM window, but the standard webcam is still external and can support many viewers. Before long I can see Yahoo! having a multi-viewer audio+video stream similar to Stickam, only much better and more secure, possibly close to uStream.

However, I do have one complaint. It’s partially just my computer, I’m sure, but when I’m using Windows XP — I have 7[RTM] and XP dualboot, but 7 doesn’t entirely support everything I use, and I’m still used to XP — Yahoo locks up, or freezes, every 5 minutes. Not exactly 5 minutes, but, might as well be. I’ve completely uninstalled it, deleted registry values, removed all traces of Yahoo Messenger from my computer, then reinstalled it again and it still continues to freeze every 5 minutes. Does it with any account I sign in on, and any version of Yahoo — I still have the installers for 7, 8, 8.5, and various versions of 9, and the latest for 10. All of them freeze constantly, and I’ve become unable to use Yahoo anymore. I really would like a fix for this, at least a reply via e-mail as to what I could do to fix it, because Yahoo has always been my IM client of choice, and it’s my main method of talking to 90% of my friends.

i just find it weird that i can see archives via yahoo messenger but I can not find where those files are located. is there no solution for this? if i reinstall ym i’m afraid i will lost all those messages.

It’s only on this version i encounter this problem on message archives, and i am using yahoo messenger for many many years already.

    - Mark

    Comment by Mark — December 10, 2009 #

  129. Mark and Sarah,

I also find I am having the same issue. I have used Messenger for years and have archives I refer to constantly. I have always used the following location for backing up these archives as well as transferring from one machine to another C:\Program Files\Yahoo!\Messenger\Profiles. I upgraded my OS to Windows 7 Pro 64 bit at the end of October and promptly installed Messenger 9.0.0.2162 and now find my archives in C:\Program Files (x86)\Yahoo!\Messenger\Profiles\\.

    No problem so far.

I just ordered a new computer (with Windows 7 Pro 64 bit), installed Yahoo Messenger 10 on it and signed in with my Yahoo ID. I made sure that the application was set to archive, had some test conversations with friends. went and looked in C:\Program Files (x86)\Yahoo!\Messenger and there is no “Profiles” folder there. I also looked in C:\Users\\AppData in all three folders (Local, LocalLow, and Roaming) and there is no indication of a profiles folder in those locations.

So I copied over some (a handful of friends) of my profiles folder from my old machine onto the new machine. When I am signed in I can see my archives for those few friends I copied over just fine, which again, is great.

I can also see the test conversations I have had since installing the new version. However, those test conversations are NOT stored in the directory C:\Program Files (x86)\Yahoo!\Messenger\Profiles\\Archive\Messages. I determined this as the users with whom I had test conversation did not have a folder created.

So, Sarah I think what we need to know is the default location for where Archives are stored in the new version and in what format those are stored so that we can continue to archive the new messages and be able to transfer ALL of our archives (pretty sure we’ve got the old methodology figured out) if anyone were to switch machines in the future and wanted to take their entire archive with them.

I hope this information has been helpful and hope to receive the information for the default location of archives soon! If there are any questions or comments please let me know!

  130. @Jon and Mark – Check in this directory for your archive files (replace “Program Files” with “Program Files (x86)” if it’s a 64-bit OS):
    C:\Users\\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Program Files\Yahoo!\Messenger\Profiles

Note that by default, this folder may be hidden. See the screenshot below for advice on how to unhide it:

  132. I have Vista. I do not know exactly what happened, but somehow my messenger stopped working. I was able to sign in but couldn’t go into a chat room. So I uninstalled yahoo messenger and installed version 10. Then I started getting the error of the application failed to initialize properly (0xc0150002). For about a week now, I have been researching it and trying to figure out what to do to get mine to work. I have uninstalled and reinstalled different versions of yahoo (8,9 & 10). Yahoo Messenger 8 and 9 can be found online on other websites. I had tried completely uninstalling yahoo, removing the yahoo folder from Program Files, and going into the registry and deleting all Yahoo related items and then reinstalling yahoo. It seemed with version 8, I could log in and go into a chat room but I could not receive ims from anyone. I would get some error about not having enough memory. With version 9, I could sign in but when I tried to go into a chat room, I would get an error saying there was not enough memory. With version 10, I could not sign in at all.

I found this link http://www.kpsolution.com/blog/tag/yahoo/ online and I followed steps 1 through 6 and then installed the latest java update (after step 12), rebooted my computer, then installed version 9 of yahoo to see if it works. It does.

My next step is to install version 10 and see if I have any problems. I will post my results.

  135. Hi Sarah and Jon.

I’m happy Jon you got yours working.
    Now here’s my case…

    I am on Vista (32-bit).
Like i mentioned earlier, i installed yahoomessenger 10. And like what i did on previous version of yahoomessenger, i copied all the message folders to “C:\Users\Mark\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Program Files\Yahoo!\Messenger\Profiles\yusername”
So i was able to see all the old messages via yahoomessenger.
After a couple of days, when i check the archive (via yahoomessenger) i can only see the “new” messages. But when i check the “C:\Users\Mark\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Program Files\Yahoo!\Messenger\Profiles\yusername” folder the old messages are still there… the “new” messages however are not. I don’t know where it is being saved.

So i thought, my yahoomessenger 10 was corrupted. I went to format my laptop. installed ym 10 again but with same result. “new” messages aren’t still on the message folders. (But i can see it on the archive via yahoomessenger 10).

I uninstalled version 10 and reinstalled version 9 of yahoomessenger. Same scenario so I thought maybe it still caches version 10.

So I went to format my laptop again and this time installed yahoomessenger 9. I can now see my old messages when i place it in “C:\Users\Mark\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Program Files\Yahoo!\Messenger\Profiles\yusername” folder. including the “new” messages.

    Happy ending? Not again.

Just after a couple a days, yahoomesseger will only display archives of “new” messages. And the folders of these “new” messages are not again located in “C:\Users\Mark\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Program Files\Yahoo!\Messenger\Profiles\yusername” folder.

Does it have something to do with windows updates like i regularly do?

Archives are really important to me that’s why im so bothered by this problem.

  137. the addition of the captcha window to the messenger was welcome, so we don’t have to go to the separate browser window to type it in. But even with all these changes and the captcha, how come booting is still allowed? There are booter still being made somehow and people still doing it. It seems to be better perhaps than a few years ago maybe, but it’s still happening.
Also with the captcha, there are those spam and porn bots crawling around again? How can that be? can they defeat the captcha?

  138. @Mark – Have you confirmed your archive settings are set to “save all my messages”? Go under Messenger > Preferences > Archive.

Yes, I’m very sure with that.

  140. Hey I just found it now!

The “new” archives are located in this folder:
    “C:\ProgramData\Yahoo!\Messenger\Profiles\”

I don’t know how it ended there. I don’t recall any configuration I did on my messenger.

I moved my “old” messages on this folder and now I can see all the messages on yahoomessenger archive together. Finally! Just like old times.

If your technical team would investigate how this happened, you may want to tell them that they can start on checking out the effects of recent windows update to yahoomessenger application.

By the way, I do still have one little problem though, when you are on the message window on yahoomessenger, and you want to choose an Emoticon, the icons would not display on the options. So I have to mouse-over to the “invisible” icons and see the tooltip (’smile’, ‘confused’, ’surprise’, etc). Am I making sense?

  141. I, like many others, have the same problem as Laura. While installing a “0xc0150002″ error shows up, but the installer runs “successful” to the end. Everytime I try to start Y!-Messenger the same “0xc0150002″ error occurs. I had no Problems with v9 before. My computer is an up to date patched XP Pro with IE8, newest Flash, Shockwave and JRE.

If you search the web, you find a lot of people searching help to this error, but no solution.

  150. Any plans to fix the bot/spam/porn issue that’s been plaguing Yahoo chat for years now?

The CAPTCHA method completely failed and is utterly pointless to even have it still integrated into the rooms. There are much, MUCH better methods available now to finally get rid of this problem once and for all.

This may have been due to other open applications or incomplete installs. Please try the install again after restarting your computer.”

I’ve closed all applications, restarted my computer…but haven’t had any luck. I had version 9 installed prior to this, and didn’t have any issues, but this time around I can’t get it downloaded. Could someone please provide me with some assistance?

  155. To turn off the Yahoo skins and allow Windows 7 Aero themes, go to C:\Program Files\Yahoo!\Messenger\YahooMessenger.exe right click ‘Compatability’, check ‘Disable Visual Themes’.

I am a paying Yahoo Mail Plus/Phone customer and I consider it downright rude that Yahoo doesn’t explain this option in Messenger Help considering the number of people asking for it. Branding is one thing but come on.

  159. A few things I’d like to see within the next update.

Text Format (Give Users The Choice to Choose which Option they would prefer through preferences menu) I prefer 8.1 text format myself.
Links (tabs or seperate windows) through the preferences.
I like messenger ten despite a few things. Which I hope can be fixed within the next update.

in other words it fails to install

I have made sure there are no phantom strings of browsers or any other application running to interfere, but keep getting the same error that says the installer file is corrupted or incomplete and to contact the author.I have launched it both from your website and after downloading it.
I even tried the /ncrc suggested command switch, got same error, tried rebooting, got same error message.
and there is no virus on this machine

  166. There is a windows border bug in YM 10. When your borders are set thick, the chat window maximizes beyond the screen edges, partially cutting off the first menu item text and cropping the top of the window so the minimize/close buttons are off screen.

This same problem makes the top bar of the window hard to grab when in restored size because the window title bar gives you the resize cursor instead of the move one for as much pixels as u have set for border.

This probably only affects Windows 7 and only affects ppl who have wide borders set so it’s unlikely it’ll be fixed.

  175. ***TABBED IMs, PLEASE!!!***

I can’t stress this enough! Its the only thing that makes using Yahoo Messenger such a pain. I also use Trillian, for all my other messengers. But Trillian doesn’t support Yahoo very well. If Yahoo would just give us tabbed IM, it would be so much better.

And the fact that they had something similar in YM8, but you had to use a registry edit to do so makes it obvious that it is possible. It just seems spiteful that they even took that out in the latest version.
