  1. w00t! Works like a charm – thanks!

  2. Thanks for the new build — works well and doesn’t crash.

There are, however, some issues with the ignore/spam reporting. Sometimes, when I report some bot’s private message as spam, the chat client doesn’t ignore all of its public messages.

  7. thanks for ym team for the update.
however, i’m a new mac user, downloaded the latest ym for mac 3.0 beta, and it’s a shock to see how ancient ym for mac is :’( i was a frequent audible and IMvironment user when i was using windows. but seems these features are non-existant in ym for mac :’( so dull,so boring…
please ym team, do an UPGRADE on these features. i’m pretty sure other users would appreciate it too. would really really really appreciate it.

  8. OMG! Thank you! I’m downloading the update really looking forward to be on the chat rooms again! Thank you yahoo! team you rock! So keep rocking!

  9. While there are posts from grateful people here.. I still say this is proof that Yahoo does not really care about Mac users. There were 6 days between posts acknowledging the issues and the updated version. Also, there aren’t any new features in this build.. it’s simply a maintenance release to fix known issues. If this issue had been in the Windows version as well it would have been fixed within 24 hours I’m sure. So what took so long Sarah? The last major feature to be added to the Mac version was Voice and that was back in March of 2008. That’s 14 months! Or about 430 days, however you want to look at it.

  15. Patrick,

Don’t kid yourself abouu Windows version issues being fixed in 24 hours. Not even 24 months some of the bugs that I and other users have reported over and over.

YM for Mac is like the Windows version many years ago, and you will have to go through the whole sorry process Windows’ users had to.

    Comment by Tommy — June 1, 2009 #

  16. ok, that was quick… thanks a lot for providing us a new update for the 10.5.7 installation. in my case, I didn’t have any problems, but for my mac fellows who did, I thank you for them too…
thanks Yahoo! team, and I’m looking forward for a final version of Y! messenger for mac, with more features

  18. Hi,

Despite downloading the new version and it correcting the crashing I still cannot access any chat rooms. No rooms are displayed. Any ideas?

    Comment by Anthony — June 3, 2009 #

  19. I’m so happy it wasn’t forgot about! Now, if we can get photo sharing, or games it will be really nice, when is this set to go?

    Comment by Finally — June 3, 2009 #

  20. Seriously, how long are they going to ignore mac user requests for photoshare? The least they could do is explain why they won’t add it or if they are working on it, etc. What’s up?

    Comment by sam witwicky — June 5, 2009 #

  21. thanks mac for updates,,but why mac doesnt have handsfree voice chat in chatroom?, also photo sharing n games,,i hope soon they will upgrade it.

    Comment by LUI — June 5, 2009 #

  23. Yeah, thanks for the bug fixes. Please throw in a few new features when beta 5 comes out next year. I love Yahoo mess on Mac (hate the bloated and ugly Windows version, yuck). If you could find a balance between the two it would be perfect!

    Comment by jeremy — June 6, 2009 #

  24. when will mac users enjoy yahoo messenger’s full features (just like pc ym 9.0)? mac people need to catch up with the pc world… fufufufu

    Comment by Chet — June 6, 2009 #

  25. I’m also experiencing chipmunk voices now when using a usb headset. The headset works fine in other applications, so its isolated to Yahoo. This did not happen in the previous beta (156957) so something broke in the update. Other party hears me fine, but i hear chipmunks… please look into this, i love yahoo but this is a big set back.

  26. When are you guys going to fix the problem with address book pics not “sticking” on contacts?

    Comment by Maguuuu — June 6, 2009 #

  27. Not sure if this related to yahoo messenger or yahoo mail, but can anyone tell me how I might disable the new feature that automatically logs you into yahoo messenger when you log on to yahoo mail. It is quite annoying because there is this built-in assumption that when I check my mail, I also have a desire to appear online on yahoo messenger and chat…which isn’t always the case.

    Comment by artbrutnewyork — June 7, 2009 #

  28. Not sure why mine is different, but it crashes nearly non-stop for me when I try to use chat. This was not happening to me on previous builds.

    Comment by Brett — June 7, 2009 #

  29. After I upgraded my yahoo messenger to (178870) , some of my contacts doesn’t appear to be online even though they are online. Is there a link for the previous version? coz the previous version works fine with me.

  30. My YIM crashes non stop when i use it with isight, it is so frustrating, it crashes every 3 minutes. The previous build often crashed but not as often as this one. Help please.

  31. Seems that since my Adobe Reader was updated … now I have a problem with file transfering with Yahoo Beta for mac.

    Argh …

Does this mean I have to uninstall Adobe Acrobat and reinstall the older version????

Comment by ms. life sux — June 8, 2009 #

  32. Ok, how about us folks who are stuck with older Macs that can’t use the new messenger… guess we are just out of luck, huh? Gee thanks yahoo! That stinks!

    Comment by Steve — June 9, 2009 #

  33. You are disabling the older versions while the new version is still in freaking BETA? Doesn’t make much sense to me….. I think all Mac users should start boycotting Yahoo entirely.

    Comment by WTF? — June 9, 2009 #

  34. I have an older MAC 10.3.9 Apparently it does not support the update, but it will not allow me to use an older version. Alternative? After all these years do I need to leave Yahoo?

    Comment by Wendy — June 9, 2009 #

  35. i’m still using the mac os x v 10.3.9 and having trouble installing the latest messenger for my mac. please help!

    Comment by Joice — June 10, 2009 #

  36. At this point any development for the Macintosh is welcome, the releases and fixes are more frequent then they used to be. Any Mac owner can use the latest version with Tiger, with the help of Xpostfacto, Macs as old as the PowerMac 7500 should be able to use the newest version. I would like to also see the last classic version updated as well even if it is only the login code and no features since many of us still use OS 9 for some programs that are not accelerated in the classic environment. If enough people are frustrated with Yahoo’s efforts then maybe its time for another Mac Chat client.

  37. I agree w/ the MAC users n probs… I no longer have a functioning Yahoo! IM- New version ABSOLUTELY DOES NOT WORK n my 10.5.1 OS version either… I can’t get past the Login- it continuously fails- saying that the YAHOO! servers are BUSY….????? (YAHOO! – MAC users NEED YOUR HELP w/ THESE stated issues… We’ve been USING YAHOO! by CHOICE- help us 2 help U, IM NEEDS fixing…. Thanks 4 previous attemps- but I’m n AGREEMENT w/ above users- DON’T Take Away What Works- Until Ur USERS PROVE YOUR NEW PROGRAM Works 4 them – AT LEAST U CAN Reactivate the OLDER Version- UNTIL U FIX 3.0 beta 4 ’s ‘bugs’ – or until it becomes NON-Beta Version… I know You Guys Will Help Us Out- Thanks 4 Your Time…)
I’m beyond FRUSTRATED as well- been using yahoo since it’s birth… n right now looking 4 alternatives… because this new version has NOT worked after months of downloads n installs. I’ve tried too many times, talked to many about this prob, n can’t seem to locate advice 4 fixes -that works… If SOMEONE has info- that’d be great! I’d just accepted the fact that there was only the OLD version that I HAD to use, but now there’s NONE that work for YAHOO! IM 4 MAC’s… (We understand it takes TIME 2 “fix bugs” – But 2 continue using YAHOO! {Not 2 mention-2 communicate with other YAHOO! IM users}- BY CHOICE-
    WE NEED OPTIONS. Thanks Again.

  41. Great to see the bug squashed…. pity YIM for Mac is still several generations, or more, behind the Windows version and it is also a real pity that you have turned off support for old versions of YIM… which no long can log in ..why??? why was that necessary??? YIM 2.5.3 is lightweight and perfect for lower-end macs and perfect for quick chat only conversations …..

oh well looks like more Adium chats for me!!!

    Comment by ceebee — June 13, 2009 #

    Comment by Cope_Freeland — June 16, 2009 #

  44. I totally agree with the comment that Yahoo does not really care about Mac users!! When are they gonna offer color customization like they do with the Windows version? Other IM’s do, like Adium.

    Comment by Charlie — July 26, 2009 #

  52. Can’t figure out where to report this bug – which I think it is.. so I’m gonna briefly hijack your blog to do so….

Have reproduced this on both an iMac and a MacBook Pro

Problem is – if I have my webcam running in YM and plug in my iPhone, the cam session immediately terminates and the webcam menu disappears.

I can leave the iPhone attached, quit YM, relaunch it and then have a cam session going – but if I unplug the phone then I lose the video.

I can unplug the iPhone and leave YM running, and the webcam menu will reappear. I can then re-invite/re-initiate the conversation that was going on.

This has happened with an iPhone 2G as well as 3GS.

I’m on the latest and greatest YM and patched fully with Apple.

If anyone on the dev or qa teams reads this and would like more info, please feel free to email me at the submitted address.

    Thanks!

  58. I am happy to see that you have been keeping updates of the iPhone version coming. (you just submitted a new update 2 weeks ago), however, when can we expect any updates to the Mac version?

The Mac version continues to lag behind the windows version in features. The things that work, seem to work pretty well, but the added features would be welcome!

    At least…
    1. Photosharing (some many people perfer using this metod, and some dont even know how to send in the way the Mac version supports)

    2. Better status and updates like the Windows version
    3. Better address book intergration
    4. Better chat room support (at least add the ability to hear voice).

I know more people use the windows version and understand that your resources are placed there for that reason, but us users who use both platforms would at least like to see some movement, or some idea of at least when to expect some additions

    Comment by Gibby264 — August 19, 2009 #

  59. I’m hoping I’m missing some real easy fix, because I’m at my wit’s end with trying to log into Yahoo! Messenger 3.0 Beta.

About 90% of the time I try to log in, I get the same rejection message:

“The application could not connect to the messenger servers. The servers may be busy, please try again.”

This is a source of infinite frustration to me, and I’m looking for anything that may fix this, as I like the new version of YM (when it’s working). Thanks!
