There's actually a way to install it without the Yahoo! tool bar. I managed to do it, and I will say that the new messenger program actually isn't bad. I was rather impressed that it wasn't so buggy that it made my computer explode, as I was expecting. And now that Yahoo!'s got an up-date of the Windows version out of the way and from the looks of it some progress on the Mac, maybe they'll focus more on fixing the problem with these cursed BOTs/spammers and booters.

I don't mind the new messenger program, but I don't like the fact that it installed Yahoo Toolbar without so much as asking me. I did an upgrade from a previous version (don't know which one) and the next time I launched the internet, I noticed a new toolbar, the kind I always uncheck because I don't want them installed on my machine.

Oh, this is laughable... I checked the categories where Yahoo! won an award... In all of them Yahoo! was actually on the bottom of the lists! So while it is sad that Yahoo! somehow managed to win these awards, it's amusing to see that they're not at the top.

Yahoo, like any tech organization, can make things look great to outsiders.
Those who truly use the chat know differently. Yahoo used to care about having the best chat..no more. Truly sad.

I agree with Richard and some of the others present here... cnet must not be doing too much research into webware before handing out the award... That or your company presents them with a flawless program while the rest of your users are stuck with getting countless spam IMs from BOTs and spammers, coupled with chat-rooms that are over-flowing with BOTs. Honestly, what the duece is going on here?

Well i congratulate you on your award but it obvious the people at cnet don't ever go in chatrooms i sorry sarah but i have to say this you can't go in a chatroom with out getting a dozen or more pm's and connference invites from bots. And also if your ttyping something to post in chat room offen these conference invvites pop up right in rright spot where while your typing for room it cause you go into conference with the bots which could be a serious security concern

I have to say that the award was well deserved. Yahoo Messenger 9 has come a long way and I am pleased with it's progress. Keep up the good work. I do have a suggestion for next release...Can you please have an option to use the big smileys or the small? I love the big smileys and there are some who prefer the small. I would like a choice. Thanks! =]

This just goes to prove anybody can win an award, if they deserve it or not!
