Thanks to everyone who has tried out the initial release of Yahoo! Messenger for iPhone and provided feedback here on the blog or through the App store.
In response to some of your comments, we’ve released an updated version of Yahoo! Messenger for iPhone (v1.1), which is now available for download.
This latest version includes:
- Landscape keyboard mode – yay!
- A fix for the sign-in/connection issues that some of you were having. Please download this latest version and try signing in again.
- A new “Report a Problem” feature that lets you send us feedback from the app about any issues you’re encountering. It can be found under the Settings icon. (screenshot)

You can download the latest version through iTunes or on your iPhone, tap the App Store icon.
We hope you enjoy it!

I downloaded the new update and am still having the same problem. When I try logging on with my current Yahoo ID the screen hangs with the word “connecting” and the little pinwheel. When I try logging on with my old ID (which very few of my contacts have), the application works.

I have the same issues as Alphonse!!! It works with my sbcglobal ID, but not a yahoo ID that I also have. Very frustrating.

I still cant connect to yahoo messenger – even with this new version – says “connecting” and never does. It only ever worked for a few days when I first got the original version and has never connected since. I REALLY would love to be able to use this program – PLEASE FIX THIS ISSUE!!!!

hi, is there a way to show just online contacts? or just bunch them up together? thanks a bunch!
Comment by gabbeh — May 13, 2009 #
I love the yahoo messenger app, but is there a way to turn off the auto rotate? Not everyone needs it!
Comment by Abir — May 13, 2009 #
@gabbeh,
Yes, you can show just online contacts in your list. Tap on the Settings icon and slide the “Offline Contacts” toggle to OFF.
@Abir,
I’m sorry but there’s no way to disable to landscape mode feature; it’s automatic.

Still can’t connect over 3G, just wireless. Why can’t you fix this basic, necessary and rudimentary problem?
Comment by happydad44 — May 17, 2009 #
it only stays connected for 10 minutes after i’m idle. i need to stay connected all the time!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Comment by carol — May 17, 2009 #
well…i just did what someone else suggested and changed my settings to use Wi-Fi and now it is using my house wireless network…i wonder why Messenger worked perfectly before without my WiFi setting on Connecting to Messenger? So does this mean that when i’m in my car or in the grocery store, Messenger will not Connect? I have the 3G 16G iPhone.
Thanks, Brooke
Is this a glitch that happened with the new 1.1 update?
Comment by Brooke — May 18, 2009 #
Why is Sarah Bacon not responding to the connection issue problem. You should remove this app from the Apple Store until you fix it. Yahoo should be embarrased to launch an application that doesn’t work over 90% of the time.

Messenger logs me off after I leave the app (10 mins?). Is there a setting to keep me logged into messenger all the time?
Comment by Timothy Ware — June 19, 2009 #
Ok I have the new iPhone 3Gs 32GB and downloaded yahoo IM the new version 1.1 but the problem is that it DOES NOT STAY LOGGED ON. Also most of the time I can’t tell if I received a new message unless I happened to look down at the bottom of the screen and see a number. There should be a alert like on the computer to let you know there is new messages. It’s like someone just rushed and through his app together. This is very, very frustrating! And some times I have trouble seeing the photo ID of other contacts and they have the same problems. Please fix this asap!

It logs me out if I leave the app at all. Or leave it idle for ten minutes. Any way to change that? Please fix it. This must be embarrassing for yahoo. I want to be able to recieve IMs at all times. Please help.

I have the same problem Alex… I have the 3GS 32meg iPhone. I soon as leave the screen with the yahoo messenger… it exits. If I am idle for a short while… it exits. Very annoying. Kinda odd that on the Blackberry Bold that I have it will stay logged in with no issues.
Hope this is corrected post haste.

@Dave Walden – What version are you using? There is a new one out – 1.2.1 (not sure you knew since you commented on an old post).
