@Jenny - We have updated the iPhone app since this post and yes, you are signed in for up to 2 weeks on the iPhone unless you sign out of the app under 'Settings'. See this article for more information:

please move the send button! i always hit it on accident and therefore send people jumbled and numerous messages. or make a confirmation window after you hit send. it's too easy to hit the wrong button on an ipod touch screen.

thanks!

Is it true that if you do not log off your YM thru iphone, even if you close or restrict the application, you stay logged in?

There's a post above that says: "To sign out of the app, tap on the Settings icon, then scroll all the way down. Tap the sign out button. Or just close the app. Once it’s been closed for 10 minutes, you’re signed out."

Which one is true? Thanks.

@michaelinNY - Any texts you send from Yahoo! Messenger are free. The SMS messages you send from Yahoo! Messenger are not tied to your mobile phone; they're going through the Yahoo! Messenger system and use your Yahoo! ID and/or name in Messenger to identify you to to the friend that receives your message on their own phone. When your friend replies to your message, it comes back to you in Yahoo! Messenger. And again, it is free to receive that reply; it has nothing to do with your carrier or your mobile phone.

Potential charges only come into play when you RECEIVE or REPLY to text messages on your phone from someone on Yahoo! Messenger. Hope that helps clarify,

Just a quick question. Im very paranoid about texting on my iphone, got slammed an extra $100 recently because I was texting to someone about 45 mins away but across the canadian border. International charge!

So anyways, I worry that AT&T will somehow manage to charge me anyways... so if Im using yahoo chat on my iphone with wifi enabled, i wont get charged per text, correct? And is it really free to text to a cell phone using yahoo?

For those with the problems of the contacts not showing, I believe I may have solved the problem !!!

It relates to the number groups of contacts you have. Basically the app will not/can not display contacts when you have them split into a number of groups - if you sort them all just into the one giorup, it solves the problem and you should see your contacts displayed (at least it works for me now !)

Would be interested to know if this solution works for anyone else

@Ikku - IMs sent through the Yahoo! Messenger for iPhone app are considered data, not text messages.

I meant instant messages sent and received on the app. Will IMs be considered data as well or a text message? Thanks. AT&T is my provider.

@ikku - Are you referring to SMS messages that you send using the Yahoo! Messenger for iPhone app? SMS sent from within the app will not count against your SMS plan from your carrier. The SMS messages sent in Messenger are just data being sent back and forth.
