Our new Yahoo! Messenger for iPhone application will be available soon! We announced it tonight in conjunction with the CTIA Wireless conference, so we want to give you a sneak peek at it here on the blog. Check out the demo video below. We’ll let you know when Yahoo! Messenger for the iPhone is available to download!
I may be dating myself, but remember using rotary phones as a kid? And how solid (but really heavy) those handsets were?
A company called YUBZ has brought them back to life. For awhile now, they’ve been selling their retro handsets for use with mobile phones. Just plug the adapter in your cellphone and voila, you’re transported back to 1978.
Well they’re about to make it work with voice over IP too with a new product called the YUBZ Talk Jack.
YUBZ handsets are $44.95; the Talk Jack accessory, available in pink or black, is $19.50. Head over to the YUBZ website to get your retro groove on. If you’re into bling, be sure check out the limited-edition gold handset.
Some of you have left comments here on the blog about errors you’re encountering when trying to update a friend’s contact information in Yahoo! Messenger. For example, when trying to update someone’s info, you might see this error when you try to save your changes:
Error: The last address book operation did not succeed due to a server error (-40402)
As you may or may not know, Yahoo! Messenger is integrated with the Yahoo! Address Book (part of Yahoo! Mail). As a result, when they are doing any kind or maintenance, upgrades or server work, it can result in some Yahoo! Messenger users encountering errors when they try to make changes to their address book content.
Currently, the Yahoo! Address Book team is upgrading some of their servers over the next few weeks. As a result, you may occasionally run into these types of errors.
As a workaround, you can try the edit again later in Yahoo! Messenger or to make your changes right away, head over to http://address.mail.yahoo.com and make your changes directly on the Address Book site.
Again, these types of errors are usually temporary and can be worked around by making changes directly on the Address Book site. Thanks for your patience,
Occasionally we hear from users that even when they are signed into Yahoo! Messenger, their Pingbox that’s embedded on their web site, blog or profile page shows them as offline. This is due to your Yahoo! network presence being set to show you as offline.
To fix it, be sure you’re logged into the Yahoo! network (e.g. you see your name up at the top of a Yahoo! page) and then click the link below. Hitting that link will toggle your online presence back to “on”. Your Pingbox will then show you as being available when you’re online in Yahoo! Messenger. Note that you’ll only show as online in your Pingbox when you’re signed into Yahoo! Messenger 9.0, Yahoo! Messenger for Mac, or Yahoo! Messenegr for the Web. Signing in on a mobile device or to IM in Yahoo! Mail will not show you as available on your Pingbox.
IMPORTANT: Changing your Yahoo! network presence to online also means that you will be shown as online within other Yahoo! sites such as Yahoo! Groups, message boards etc. – anywhere the online presence indicator ( / ) appears within different Yahoo! products.
Note: After you click the above link, you’ll be taken to a blank, white page. That is by design. You won’t see any visual confirmation of the change. We also recommend logging out and back into Yahoo! Messenger after you click the link.
