Yesterday we released an updated version of Yahoo! Messenger 9.0 (9.0.0.2136). This latest version includes fixes that should help those that were having problems installing 9.0 It should also alleviate problems that may have been caused by software conflicts with antivirus programs or add-ons like Speedbit Video Accelerator*.

To download this latest version, please visit:

http://messenger.yahoo.com/download/win

Please leave a comment here on the post to let us know if this latest version alleviated your installation problems. Please note that we are still working out the sign-in issues; those have not been addressed yet in this latest version.

  7. It’s g@@d to know that the Yahoo Messenger Team is on the job.

I had downloaded the recent Messenger version & installed it.

Afterwards I went back & install the current version of SpeedBit Video Accelerator 2.3.4.4

Be ADVISED that when asked to RESTART please do so, otherwise problems.

Everything is functioning okay in regards to this two programs.

    Thank you!

its not our pc’s that are at fult,, its the new yahoo messenger and its site or its servers,,,lol,,

for awhile i complained the the launchCast music plugin did not work all the way ,,,guess what ?,,ever since “cbs radio” took over now the plugin works great, it even has a slightly new look.

so you see,, its the site and its new yahoo messenger having issues with each other.

other then that , i have no problems now with the new yahoo messenger 9.0.0.2136.

i always keep my java and flash and other adobe.com stuff up to date.

also i always keep up to date on windows updates.

Messenger, I haven’t been able to type Vietnamese while chatting, although I have re-installed UniKey, which worked perfectly for the previous version. It’s quite troublesome as I am used to typing Vietnamese in Y!M, so now I have to type it in notepad and copy-paste it to Y!M. Hope you can fix this soon.
    All the best.

  33. A lot of problems with the installation, weird. YM offer a standalone installer? They should, especially for those with slower connections.
The bug I’ve noticed for quit awhile is YM’s failure to notify user of new email in the inbox AT LOG ON. YM only notifies the user if a new email arrives in the inbox while YM IS ALREADY LOGGED ON.

I’ve noticed that recently there isn’t a section to change the “quote” in the yahoo profile right under your info of Age/Gender/Location.. Was that taken out on purpose, just something overlooked or an error? Can you guys fixed that up… I know it seems like a small and in those regards hopefully is also easy to fix.

    Thanks,

  58. Yahoo 9 has issues sending files.. it doesn’t matter if I’m sending to an older version of the client, or with the same version, quite often the transfer will fail .. if you send the same file again it will usually go through.. this issue has existed for a long long time..

I downgraded as a test back to an early version of 8 and I can send and receive flawlessly every single time..

I see lots of people complaining about this if I google around, is there ever going to be a solution to this problem? this is a huge irritation .. the recommendation most people give me is “use MSN or AIM to send files… ” … sad when that is the suggestion..

I finally got 9.0.0.2034 which had working sound for chat rooms, now SUDDENLY it stopped working and has those same old message again from before saying “This computer does not support the required audio compression format”. WHAT ON EARTH happend that you are suddenly no longer supporting this again? Now what are we suppose to do for getting sound in chat rooms? What on earth is the problem that it’s so unstable for us?

  62. One issue I face with version 9 is contact list not getting refreshed or displayed properly. Some of them are not visible to me and I am not visible to some (when status is actually ‘available’). But when one of such contacts signs in or out, I get the notification “so and so signed in/out”, though I can’t see them in the list.

  70. Hello!!
Any comment about the friend typing notification message problem?
It was accurate before you change its localisation, now it is not:
I have tried sending messages between 2 accounts, one with the messenger for the web and one with this last version.
It’s working very well with the web messenger. (Notification on Yahoo messenger for the web very precise if I’m typing or not on yahoo messenger 9) but not accurate with this news version (stop notifying after a few second even if I’m still writing with Yahoo messenger for the web)
I just wanted to have a comment from the manager.
Is it a problem that is going to be corrected in the next Y! Messenger version?
    Thank you!

  75. Yes there is many problems with it , actually it still has the same problems it had in the previous versions , the display picture is not fixed yet and it’s still *black box* , i recommend relying more on Windows Live Messenger or other messenger it’s more reliable and at least when there is a problem with it they fix it right away not ignore it for almost a year , and we were complaining about Windows and their products it seems like the other companies can do much worse!

  76. there is a problem with Yahoo in some countries especially those that are on the terrorists list , unfortunately for Yahoo and their attempts to play along with the government wishes that actions are not going to change a thing , there are many other messengers that can be used in that countries and windows live messenger is on the top of that list and it’s not like Yahoo messenger can’t be used from that countries it’s still functional and works 99% so pretty much what Yahoo is doing is messing up their services for the rest of their clients

  79. I think recent sign in issue is created by a windows patch. I was able to sign in fine till now even though this disscussion about sign in issues have been going on since 2 weeks. But after I installed a recent windows patch, I was not able to sign in.

Latest version 9.0.0.2136 seems to solve the sign in issue, but it also has some new behaviour that I don’t like, notably (1) ” is typign message” and “Last message received …” indications in the sent portion of IM window. I don’t like this new way of these indications, old way was better, looked more professional.
    (2) When I minimize main messenger window it goes to right most of all other open windows in the taskbar, very annoying.

  80. To add and/or move contacts, try using the address book instead of the messenger interface. Personally, I’ve had better luck.
For those locked out, does it apply to YIM only? Can you still log on to Yahoo! Mail?
For those who would like to prevent their accounts from sending out spam: changer your password.

“Use online address book” is not a “solution,” at least no more than is “use Win Live instead of Yahoo.”

I’d like to like Yahoo–it has the best address book capabilities I’ve seen–including in Outlook–but seems too damn buggy to be worth using.

  90. I’m still getting the ‘MSVCR80.dll’ error. I have Windows 2000 Pro, but I don’t have Speedbit.

Which antivirus programs are affecting the installation? I have Avast.

  91. Nevermind, I got it. I updated to Windows 2000 Service Pack 4, downloaded and installed Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 Express Edition and was able to run Yahoo Messenger 9.

2- as of today this is the second time this month i get an error and Yahoo crashed on me *the system is clean and no other problems with any other program and sent the report to windows*

  94. I installed YM as an Administrator in Vista Home Premium with SP1. A problem I see is that when I open up a chat window (as a standard user) and click on the emoticon icon, the usual pop up that contains the smileys is just a grey box. I can mouse over each mini square within the box and the labels would show up but the smileys themselves are nowhere to be found. This problem is not found when I use the Administrator account. I tried to search for the smiley graphics and I found them in the virtualstore folder (the virtualized folder used by Vista’s UAC). How can this be fixed?

  95. Please do something about the file transfer. If I am trying to send a file that I am using at the same time, messenger 9 always freezes. Also, a classic skin would be much appreciated as it uses less resources.

  96. Well… I tried to install Messenger 9.0 (2136) for Windows Vista H.E. and I still get this error
    http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e313/prelynmax/Error%20Files/YMessengerERROR.jpg
and will not install at 99%. Is there a link to an (more stable) older version installation file?

  97. The problem with my Yahoo messenger is, it does not respond when i open, that installer/uninstaller hangs when i try to use it. What could be the problem. I’m using windows XP and i have DAP(download accelerator plus) and Speedbit video accelerator installed, are they the ones causing the problem?

  98. My problem is : when i log off it freezes and asks me to send error messege every single time. Triied reinstalling it several times with no avail. My audio conferences get dropped constantly and says the connection was lost. The biggest issue is: most of the time my family and friends do not recieve my instant messeges or my offlines. I thought people were just ignoring me until i started making phone calls and found most of them are having the same issues with 9.0 so i know for a fact its not my ISP nor my computer since i build and program high performance computers i know for a fact it’s not my set up.

CONCLUSION: I believe that yahoo took messenger 9.0 out of beta too soon. It still needs work. —- rolling back to 8
