Wow, that competition is soooo weak! I’ve never heard of Brosix, they’re probably the biggest about.com sponsors.

Interesting results on the Best Chat Client Poll, 38% of the Voters Picked Yahoo Chat, and probably more then accurate to say of those that voted for it 99% Bot, 1% Human, Or The Make Up Of Most Of Yahoo’s Chat Rooms. Which is Why I Pay For PalTalk.

lol, not a chance, fix the bugs then it might be worth considering.

I’ll vote for you once you fix the server issue that keeps making Messenger spontaneously log in and out for me. I’ve seen several people complain about this same issue, yet it has not been addressed. Before you start blaming my computer, I’ve checked for issues with a variety of programs and there is nothing wrong. Please check out whatever is going on with the server, thanks.

I need to use Y! Messenger, but it’s unconceivable it has months (years) throwing DEP errors on Windows. DEP is a valuable protection against hackers but I have to deactivate it just so Y! will agree to install. Not the best experience, not the most improved.
Comment by DoItRight — February 18, 2009 #
well now what an honor! but yet still not logging in for some strange reason,,ugh

I would love to give YIM an all around thumbs up. But I can’t, and here’s why. YIM works perfectly on my desktop which runs on Windows XP service pack 3. But on my laptop (which I use regularly) is not the same story.
My laptop runs on Windows Vista Home Premium 64bit. I can barely stay online with YIM for any given amount of time because the messenger keeps crashing on me. I would love for yahoo to find a way to fix this issue as I am not the only one on a 64 bit platform that is having this issue.
Yahoo’s most recent bug fix appears to have only fixed the issues they were having with the previous 32 bit platform of windows vista.
So for now in all categories Yahoo Messenger gets a big thumbs down. Now don’t get me wrong I love this messenger a lot, its even the one that I prefer over any others simply because Yahoo offers features that others do not have.
Please Yahoo I hope you hear my plea and find a way to get Yahoo Messenger to work with Windows Vista 64 bit.
Thank you,
Rachel

Adium is waaaaay better. Fix your webcam issues and maybe I’ll vote for you. I’m sure half of your votes for best mac client come from yahoo employees.

The client is not worthy of best at anything, but it does work in Vista 64. I have had zero issues with it.

Enough aside, where do I find the Pingbox? Wanna give that a try seeing as how I haven’t.
Comment by User — February 24, 2009 #
Pingbox is neat! However no matter what I do it says I’m not online, but I am signed into messenger. Do I have to not be invisible when trying it? I am set to allow messages from those not on my ignore list. This is something that very few IM services offer, Way to go Yahoo! Keep on rockin

To Karl:
The Pingbox is a pretty useful (when it works) flash-based YIM client for anyone to use, without a Y! ID. Think live support chat, but run by yahoo, and free.
Comment by User — February 27, 2009 #
Yay! My pingbox is working! I have to say, that this is probably one of Yahoo’s greatest toys out there! I like how one doesn’t need to have my Y!ID or even have one of their own to get in touch with me! I am definitely putting a Pingbox on all my pages. A+ to this, one big A+.
Now, if only 9.0 had the classic skin that 8.1/5.6 did. 9.0 as it is is way out of place on a classic Windows setup. (XP SP2 in Classic Windows mode.)
