FYI: Yahoo! Messenger 9.0 and SpeedBit software conflict
February 4, 2009 on 12:01 pm | In 9.0 version | 29 Comments
Thanks to a blog reader, Albert, we recently discovered a software conflict between Yahoo! Messenger 9.0 and SpeedBit Video Accelerator*. If you have encountered problems installing Yahoo! Messenger 9.0 or found that it stopped working altogether, this could be the cause of your problem.
Here are some quick steps to determine if you have the software conflict and how to fix it:
1) First, check to see if you have Speedbit Video Accelerator installed. To do that, go to your Control Panel and double click on Add/Remove programs (in Windows Vista, look for the “Programs and Features” icon).
2) Look for Speedbit Video Accelerator in the list of programs (screenshot below). If you do have it, remove / uninstall it. Note that after uninstalling it, you may be asked to restart your computer.

3) Go to http://messenger.yahoo.com/download/win and try installing Yahoo! Messenger 9.0 again.
At this time, we have not solved the conflict so the only way to get Yahoo! Messenger 9.0 installed is to remove Speedbit Video Accelerator from your PC. We do not recommend re-installing Speedbit after installing 9.0 as it also prevents 9.0 from running.
While we realize there are users having issues with 9.0 that are not related to the SpeedBit software, we did want to alert you to this conflict in case it applies to you. We appreciate your patience while we investigate other causes to the installation and sign-in issues with 9.0.

* SpeedBit Video Accelerator is a free web browser add-on that advertises faster and smoother video streaming from YouTube.

What a stupid solution! So basically you’re saying it’s their fault your program crashes.

I had become suspicious & alerted when I had installed the most recent version of SpeedBit Video Accelerator @ 01/01/09..
After the installation, it knocked out my Yahoo! Messenger 9.0 offline.
Thank you!

Thank you blogger…
After uninstalling SpeedBit Video Accelerator, both my Yahoo! Messenger 9.0 & Yahoo! WebMessenger had come back to life.
I have notified SpeedBit.com about this issue which had occurred on my PC.
Thank you!

Have exactly the same problem. Will keep Video Accelerator as I use it more than Yahoo but I would still like to get Yahoo Messenger back one day. I like the eBay access part.

I cant uninstall it cause then it wont download to my computer again! What the hell?!?!

This has not helped me.
Y! keeps disconnecting every few minutes, dropped IMs and all. Using Trillian and Y!M 9. I’ve stopped using YM.

It will go though the first 100% then it saids based in part on the work of the Independent JPEG Group. then it saids “C:\Program Files\Yahoo!\Messenger\YahooMessenger.exe” This saids this application has filed to start because the application configuration is incorrect. Reinstalling the application may fix this problem.

I don’t have speedbit. When I try installing Yahoo Messenger the program freezes after installed at the “Updating System Configuration Please Wait” Nothing happens after this. Yahoo messenger does not work. I cannot install or uninstall it. It freezes up each time.

I don’t have the speedbite video accelerator and I still can’t download Yahoo Messenger. I starts to dowload and as soon as it gets to about 23% it jumps to 100% and freezes. I very disappointed. I miss Yahoo!

I had to reformat my hard disk and so load all software again. I had used yahoo messenger before and liked it. i loaded and it was working, i loaded other software including SpeedBit Video Accelerator, It was not worked after. I did not realise there was a conflict. I have used MSN Messenger with out any problems for video and chatting. It is bulletproof it seems. Why use two systems, when there are so mnay problems?

I’ve been having problems for a good week now. No speedbit installed. Reinstalled YIM9 and it worked once and stopped.
Rebooted PC – nothing.
Always seemed a little unstable – plugin shy.
I’ve no choice but to try and find alternatives. I need chat.
