Trouble installing Yahoo! Messenger 9.0?

We know that some of our users are having problems when they try to install the latest version of Yahoo! Messenger 9.0 (9.0.0.2112). We’re working hard to fix the issue and want to ask for your help.
If you try to install 9.0 and find that it hangs at 99% and the installation never completes, you’re who we want to hear from. If you’re willing to help us troubleshoot the problem, please leave a comment here on the blog. When you comment, include your email address in the form where you can be contacted (note that it won’t be published but we’ll be able to see it). We’ll then contact you with some steps you can take to help us pinpoint the issue.

My self trying several time to download the yahoo messenger 9.0 ?
unable/not sucess to download to my pc from 5th of january 2009
thus i unable to communicate with my friend through im.

well i am just letting you know that we tryed to install the yaooh messenger alot of times and it get stuck at 99% and we were wndering why cause we lefted on all night to see if in will conect and it didn’t so this is why we were letting you know well thank you for your time.

i have also tried 2 install yahoo messenger 9.0 and it says its a corrupt file, it starts good but then it quits halfway thru or at 99%. i hope yall can fix it soon, i need my messenger back in.

I have tried to use this yahoo and tried to download it several times. I have a mac laptop g4 10.3.9 and it does not work on my computer. I have not tried my desk top yet, but suspect you have a glitch in the language to communicate to older systems of pc windows or mac. but that’s just a guess. i do know that I have friends that don’t believe me that it is not working, they think it’s me. Glad I found out you updated to a new system and it is your system not my computer.
can you help me fix this so I can get back to using messenger. thank you

Fortunately I installed successfully. But when the downloading process occurred, it hangs at 100% but the picture keeps changing and sounds ‘tick… tick… tick…’ like when we click a link in a browser and sometime the installer was not responding. I waited for about 1 hour, and suddenly I got a screen of successful installation. I’m running YM on Vista Home Premium without uninstalling old YM.

Yes. Me too. I always get stuck at 99% or 100% and then it freezes. I also found out that my other Messenger 9.0 has some kind of problem. It cannot show the action bar, only my friends.

9.0 installed fine for me on XP SP2 but I’ve contacted them zillions of times about my issues with the 9.0 Launchcast issues and gotten replies from like 3 different people with NO relief… I’m going insane.. and AT&T Yahoo is my Internet provider too.. and they still can’t help! Even though this isn’t a post about that specific plug… MAYBE someone will see it and fix something in a future build. Okay, so I’ve tried installing the latest version of 9.0 on my computer and my parents computer… they use SP3 (which is still kinda glitchy) and I use SP2… I made sure we both have all the recent updates installed on both computer and I upgraded there YM to the latest version along with the AT&T browser update. After the new YM installed on there computer installed everything loaded everything worked, launchcast loads and lets me play the default stations fine.. which it didn’t even let me do in previous versions! it lets me click the stations pop up menu and loads the names of the lists (generes, themes, pop, hard rock hip hip soft country, my station), it shows me the arrows next to genres and themes and when you mouse over them thee sub catigories are supposed to pop out, but they don’t. I have to pass my mouse over genres like 3 times to get it to pop out and it lets me select my station, but it won’t let me choose anything from the themes menu and below that. Say I listen to 3 stations under genres (ie pop, christian, dance) but then I want to my station… I have to literally go to my plugins menu, stop the plugin, and restart it so it reloads the 3 default stations!… that stupid and irritating… ALL the other plugins work.. weather, yahoo 360 etc.. this is the ONLY issue I’m having and it makes me sad because I LOVE you guys!!!! I have the SAME EXACT issue on my personal desktop and if I use 9.0 I have to do the same thing I just described. I love the layout and some of the new features in 9.0 but since I can’t get my Launchcast to work like it should I downgraded to using the final version of 8.1 where the radio works. To most people they’d sit here like.. why is she bitching about one stupid plugin but I am a preminum member… when you guys introduced the Launchcast plugin in 8 (I think that’s when) I was thriled, because I am a graphic designer and all the different songs help my creativity!
Like I said above, I’ve contacted you guys a tillion times before and gotten many replies, and did what they said but I keep having the same problem!!!
I know I am NOT the only person having this issue, all my friends, that use either XP SP2 or SP3 are having the same issues.
Maybe your missing something but please someone help.
I don’t wanna sound like a B**** but I am just annoyed. I know there are still tons of bugs in 9.0 but people are having issues with this and yet we see no fix and it’s pretty big not to miss.

Lastly, if I add someone from my Windows Live list why can’t we use all the functions in YM like share our webcam with them… I actually have both YM and WLM installed on my system because of that issues.

I did installed the messenger almost 8 times, unfortunately, whenever i get login, a couple of 5 seconds then it gets LOG-OFF. Seems like it i was hacked or banned. But i never get any chatroom or whatsoever except to chat with my family. I use YM just to communicate with my family.
Does anyone can help me with this problem. its almost a month of having this problem?.

It downloaded and said complete and successful. But I try to log in and it says no network connection ? I am conneceted coz ,old yahoo for Vista works and so does hotmail .

I have installed & reinstalled and each time I turn off computer I get the message that it is not responding and to end now. This has been going on since 9.0 was introduced and continues with the upgrade. Something is not right! I hope you can fix all the bugs soon.

I had this problem. I gave it plenty of time at 99% and finally got a “Failed to download” error box. I clicked Retry and it hung again at 99%. I cancelled the installation, uninstalled the old version, nuked the PF/Yahoo!/Messenger directory completely, disabled virus scanners, rebooted, installed successfully, and then reenabled the virus scanners.

I had installed 9.0 successfully before but had to reinstall windows after a hard drive crash and now it freezes at 99%. The only thing that has changed in my system is the addition of 1GB of ram and a new hard drive.

Installed 9.0 fine. Did hang on 99% for a while, but it worked eventually.
Can’t log into Yahoo Messenger. Sits there forever, saying signing in, and then logs off, saying there is an error. I am able to log into all of my services, mail and such, but messenger will NOT LOG IN.

I have been able to install v9, but whenever someone tries to send me a message there is no text. The text comes through fine if I use Trillian for my Yahoo needs, but not if I use Yahoo itself. Yahoo Tech Support so far has been no help at all. It worked a week ago, but not now. Can anyone tell me why? I even tried uninstalling recent updates for my Vista system, but that did not get it to work either. Please HELP!

I had noticed that as of 01/01/09 my YAHOO! messenger went offline.
I am not able to load or even remove the current the messenger from the Control Panel.
I am able to sign into http://webmessenger.yahoo.com/ to check my IMs.
Since I’m NOT able to use my messenger @ the moment, I’m not able to chat online.
W/ the newest messenger it does get hanged up towards the end.
I had attended to UNINSTALL the newest version, but I get a dialog box stating “Cannot open uninstall.log file.”
I shall continue to check the YMessenger Blog for further updates regarding this situation.
I sincerely hope that YMessenger Team will do all it can to remedy this problem.

Same here with the installation. I get to UPDATING SYSTEM CONFIGURATION, and it hangs there forever. On top of it, it erased my previous Yahoo Messenger version which irks me but has truly distressed my 4 teenagers. Immediate help would be appreciated before we experience a full teenager meltdown.

I use YM for my virtual business and this is killing me. The issue I have is that it downloads correctly but when I go to IM someone I get a SCRIPT ERROR and no text appears when typed in the response box. I’ve done everything suggested including downloading Adobe Flash Player, making sure my internet options are set correctly, and so on.
I even tried to use the Web Yahoo and it doesn’t load. Now I know the Adobe Flash is loaded so I cannot figure that one out either.
I am using Vista Home Premium (a new computer) and it was working fine for the last 30 days. I don’t know what could of changed. I need help.

I have also tried so many time installing messenger 9.0.0.2112 from your website. sometimes the connection from the server breaks and other time when downloading yahoo messenger completes 100%, it starts again downloading from 0%, thus repeats downloading continuously and never finished. After trying several times, as the connection was interrupted in between, I downloaded full package from alternative location, displayed in message box after the connection was interrupted/broken and have installed it. It works fine, but no picture on log in page. I hope you will release bug free version very soon.

It won’t even let me download Yahoo Messenger 9.0. For some reason. & I have Windows Vista.
It says its either corrupted or incomplete, that I might have to ask the author for a new copy, or something like that. its werid. I don’t know what to do, or how to get a newer older version of the yahoo messenger.

Well I’m having a problem, I have Windows XP Home Edition, and have dial up.
I leave it on over night, and in the morning it’s at 99% then, it goes back down to 0%.
What’s wrong? I tried downloading this 5 tims already same thing happens.

Installing Yahoo Messenger dialog shows
1. A broken image on top left corner, which has fading text next to it
2. At the bottom a progress-bar that keeps alternating between 0% and 100%.

Messenger 9.0 sucks! It takes sometimes 10 time to load/log in and when u log out, it wants to send an error report. What is up with that? I HATE IT!

Same problem with 99%. Why don’t you guys fix this first or have a beta out before you put it out!. The former IM is much better and workable.This is so frustrating!I can’t even load the PDF. for it.

i’m facing the same problem too. the first 2 times, it stucked at 99%. But then, when i tried to download on another notebook, it stucked at 100%. and there’s even this ‘klik..klik’ sound as if i was trying to browse something else. and that’s driving me insane. please let me know when you have already fix the problem. i really need to use YM.

Hi…I have a problem installing YM Version 9.0. It hangs at 99%. This is the message that I have when it stops at 99%. “Windows Installer: Incorrect Command Line Parameters. Installed Yahoo messenger 9, worked fine. then tried to uninstall it and it just sits on a blank download bar. so i then tried to reinstall 9 and now it hangs at 99%.
Windows is so buggy and failed installs cause so many problems, that i think it is disgusting that you are leaving this incomplete version of the download available. if it doesnt work…take it off!!!!!

I had this. Went into ctrl alt delete, then picked processes and ended all the yahoo messenger processes, and the install continued.

Ok it is doing the same thing that you describe in the passage above. It will go to 99% and then it will say that the layout is not side by side therefore causing an error. I no longer have Yahoo Messenger installed on my computer. I just need the information you have and to see if this is normal.

I am running Windows XP Service Pack 3. I do not have the “Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 Redistributable” program in my add/remove programs. I have tried a half dozen times and also get hung up at the 99 percent. It had been working for me, but when I went to log in tonight I couldn’t so I thought maybe I had an older version and installed what I thought was going to work. I hope for all of our sakes, this is fixed soon. Thank you for your hard work.

Yep, trying to install and it stops at 99%, doesn’t move. I tried to uninstall and it won’t, tried to delete from Program Files and it won’t. My operating system is Windows XP. What the hell?

I have tried 3 times to install Messenger 9.0. Each time I reached “Step 4″ the message stated the install was unsuccessful. I am running Windows XP Home Edition (version 5.1) with Service Pack 3.

I have tried many times to install this from the Yahoo Messenger website but the install always hangs at 99% and I have to use Task Manager to close the application.
I have even tried installing Yahoo Messenger 8.1 using only the 8.1 exe file. It goes fine until the end and hangs at “Updating System Configuration, Please Wait…”
I hope this info helps to resolve this issue that many people are having.

I am running into error installing yahoo messenger 9.0.Suprisingly, sometimes it finishes the installation and sometimes it doesnt. But when it does and I launch it, it errors out saying “The applicaton failed to initialize properly (0xc0000006). Click on OK to terminate the application”.
Here are the details
OS: Windows XP SP 2
C++ Redistributable Version: 8.0.56336
Walker (depends.exe):
MSVCP80.dll: Error opening file. The system cannot find the file specified (2).
MSVCR80.dll: Error opening file. The system cannot find the file specified (2).
(I checked a previous version of yahoo on my other computer and it has MSVCP71.dll and MSVCR71.dll). May be you guys forgot to package these two files?
I have enjoyed Yahoo Messenger always and I have utmost confidence that you will be able to resolve this problem.

To whom it may concern,
I have a used my new HP Pavilion 4 months with my Yahoo Messenger working fine, I received a message upgrade to Yahoo! Messenger 9.0 and since, I have been unable to open or rerun or download yahoo messenger … I keep receiving the message that WSOCK32.dll can not be found. And when trying to shut down firewall and re run … still no luck.

I tried downloading the new yahoo messenger and got stuck again at 99% after multiple tries in the past 3 months.

I have just purchased a new computer with Windows Vista Home Basic and have tried for 4 days to download yahoo messenger 9.0,I haven’t been able to get it to download and really would like you to give me a site so I could just find an older version and see if it would download. I use my IM to stay in touch with family & friends and REALLY need it , I don’t care if it’s the latest, fanciest ,or anything else , just want an IM loaded in my computer. Thank You!!!!!!!

I also have tryed downloading yahoo messenger 9 several times the past few months, and each time is freezes at 99%. When I try to uninstall yahoo after that, is freezes that window and wont allow it to be uninstalled. It also doesnt allow the messenger to be manually deleted on the c drive either. It than wont allow messenger to be used. I only got the old messenger to work after getting a diferent com puter, than after a couple months tryed downloading it again , and the sam process happend, and not am unalbe to use the messenger. So the only thing I know it to reload windows ot just use a 3rd party application like yazak instead. Any suggestions? thanks.

thanks for redirecting me, i was able to install the Yahoo messenger through the link you given me,
But still, it quits SUDDENLY & unexpectedly, it doesnt display the message that you send, there an error message that appears as you lauch the YM,

hi! i found kinda out how to fix yahoo messenger while installing.
the problem is that yahoo messenger tries to open while it is still installing. to fix this problem. wait the installer to freezes (99%) then press CTR+ALT+DEL then go to process you should see 2 yahoo messenger running. click the yahoo messenger that DOESN’T say installer. then end process it, and that should do it. XD
problem is. when i finished installing it. when i try to run it a Inittialization error pops out, saying “CoCreateInstance for the My Yahoo DLL faild!” now. can anyone help me with this problem?

Installation hangs at 99%. It never completes itself and I have this installation form on my computer and when I try to X it out it does nothing. So I then have to restart my computer. I also tried to remove it from my control panel and it will not allow me to do so. So now I have to use web messenger it is ok for now, but I’d rather have my messenger back.
I have been trying for several weeks now!

Hi, I have a problem when I try to install the latest version of Yahoo messenger 9.0. When I try to install 9.0 it hangs at 99% and the installation never completes.

I have tried to install the Yahoo messenger 9.0 on several occassions–each time the installation would freeze @ 99%. I tried to stop the install using the task manager-as the pdf file on this blog had instucted. The install would not stop, and the only way to get it to stop, was to restart my computer.
I tried to remove what was installed thru add/remove programs–it keeps saying–cannot locate install.log file. I was able to force remove using revo uninstaller. I have open case with yahoo-KMM141614468V39750L0KM. The last date of contact was January 17,2009. I was informed this trouble had been turned over to Engineering, and I await their response. I would like someone to please email or call me.

I also have this problem, at first I thought it was my connection because I still use dialup ( they don’t have highspeed in my area) but apparently I’m not the only one with this problem. I start to download the program and it actually runs until 100% but then it just says downloading and never does anything else. I have checked my computers programs and do not find yahoo in there so it’s not installed. If you can help me out it would be greatly appreciated.

i tried to install yahoo messenger 3 times and every time its stops at 99% it wont let me uninstall it cause it says its missing a file called “INSTALL.log” i have the program but it wont let me run it and i can only get rid of it by deleteing it from the program file even then it wont get rid of the whole file there are like 15 files left over that i cant get rid of it says there being used in another program what can i do to help fix the problem?

I tried to download and it said it did but the window that is supposed to come up, that lets you run the program, will not pop up. Now that I know you guys are having issues with it, it makes me feel alot better knowing that I’m not just going DE-TE-DE. Thanks I will give you some time and try again.

I have been trying to download the 9.0 version and get to 100% but then it won’t go any further. There is an add that comes up for block buster video and that you can get them online and all, but I do not want that. I can not figure out how to do anything else. Also once when I tried to download it, it did clear out my old version and then I had to go back and reinstall it and lost all of my contact list. I can’t get that back either. So if you can help me fix that I would apprciate it very much.

Can’t get Yahoo Messenger 9.0 to launch after being installed. Seems to not open about two weeks after being installed. Uninstalled it. Reinstalled it. Works for about two weeks, then won’t open Yahoo Messenger at all once again. Uninstalled it. Now it won’t install at all. Hangs at 99%. I have tried numerous times. I finally figured out the problem, Yahoo blows as always, I switched to Trillian, problem solved! Thanks ONCE AGAIN Yahoo for a low-rate service!

I can’t seem to download Yahoo Messenger, it gets to 100% then just blinks at me. It goes from 0% to 100% then to 0% to 100%.. it’s really annoying but won’t do whatever step it’s suppose to do after that or it will say file is corrupt.
What’s the deal? There are no tips anywhere to get us past that…

hey i got all the problems solved right here, when installation hangs it completely install it but u just cannot access it, anyway its because you have not activated the ADMINISTRATOR on the machine and that can be done only in DOS.
1. Go to accessories and right-click on the command prompt, then select run as administrator (now the dos prompt is being operated in the administrator mode.
2. type the command and check to verify that the administrator is not active on your machine
” net user Administrator ” then click on enter this will display the user account and let u know administrator is not active.
3. To activate the administrator on the machine run the following line in the same Dos prompt window which is being run as administrator
” net user Administrator /active:yes” this command then activates the administrator account for any user assigned as administrator plus u get the Administrator account itself without a password.
4. Restart your machine and the administrator is activated and u will find your yahoo messenger on the screen other than that you can now install your messenger without any hitch .

For those who are downloading YM9, this is what I did to successfully download and install the program:
1. Temporarily disable your antivirus while downloading and installing YM9 (some if not most antivirus programs block or interfere with the downloading of YM9 –takes too long to download or the files get corrupted).
2. Install your YM9 the usual way.
3. Enable your antivirus.

I also had the same problem. Previously my YM does work but when I installed speedbit video accelerator YM stopped working. It’s just visible in the taskmanager but doesn’t show the messenger window. I tried uninstalling and installing but it hangs around 99%. But when I tried uninstalling speedbit video accelerator then installed YM again everthing worked fine.
So it’s safe to say that speedbit video accelerator conflicts / not compatible with Yahoo messenger.

I was using YM version 9 on Vista Home Premium very succesfully with voice chat enabled for a long time. On updating Windows to SP1 YM got corrupted and now version 9 does not load. It gets stuck at 99%. I tried loading version 8.0 and it works fine but the CALL option is disabled. Even tried loading all the HOTFIX options available on the various forums but no positive effect. Kindly advice. Have tried disabling all Anti Virus and Anti Spyware softwares before loading but still the problem persists.

I have Windows Vista on my laptop…and I’ve been trying to download messenger how many times on my computer. It looks like I’m not the only problem. Here’s the message its been giving me…”Yahoo did not correctly install. This may due to other open applications or incomplete installs. Please try the install again after restarting your computer.” I don’t know how many times I did restart my computer, and shut all the windows on my computer I’m not using. I also tried downloading messenger again and again. Is there other older versions I could use if 9.0 isn’t letting me download it all the way? Thanks!

I been trying to install messenger 9 on my Windows Vista Ultimate computer and it does the same thing every time. it just stops the installation at 99% and i even turned my firewall and antivirus protection off and it did the same thing. i hope u guys figure this out soon.

then some notice appeared like this………

My name is Robert Sledz and I have tried to install and uninstall and reinstall Yahoo Messenger umpteen times on both my desktop XP and my laptop Vista and they are both stopping install at the 99% area. The Task Manager says it (yahoo install) is running but it is frozen and causes IE and Firefox crashes.
My brother does not have this problem but he uses the 8.0 version. I have tried to reinstall the 8.0 but it again stops at the 99% mark…
It seems so frustrating because we all rely on yahoo messenger a lot in my home. It is our first choice and has always provided the easiest of functionality——untill now. Please…HELP!?

hi all guess what? I was having a problem with yahoo messenger this AM, I installed it and got stuck to 99%…I was really pissed off and cannot do anything about it, cant re install, cant open the old version…I turned off my computer and went somewhere…after 5 hours, I just checked and clicked the icon, old icon, I was surprised to see its working suddenly…why is that? i havent even finished installing it as what Ive said it got stuck to 99%,
Now 9.0 is installed, yipee…I hope it will work continiously.:)

I first tried installing messenger 9.0 on my Laptop with sp3 it couldnt make it fully i mean hanging at 99 % forever till i got frustrated and tried again.
I formatted my PC and installed service park 2 and tried again…Here the case was absolutely different from the first one…it downloads but cannot make it to 99% as the first case was..it reaches half way every time i try to install and keep retrying and retrying but in vain. I have just retried now and it showed me a message that yM has been cancelled would like to retry? for sure i did not cancel it..what do u think cancelled it…after a box popped saying that; The file C:/documents and settings/vaseluv/localsettings/temp/4130134/ymsgr_inst_us.exe could not be opened. wen i follow that directory to see that file i cant se eit coz it ends on vaseluv…Pliz help me i wana be in contact with ma boys friends and family.

I have tried d/l messenger many times on my computer and i get this incorrect line para thingy. I don’t know how to fix this problem…And I think that I have found a solution to all of those who have gotten to 99% and then it stops..If you are using firefox or anything except e it won’t work…On my moms computer we had the same problem and then I went to e internet browser and it worked…I am just having the problem of getting it on mine…help anyone?

I have exact problem. Have tried few mths ago to download im 9.0 without success…goes on and on forever with 100% complete install, but click, click click over and over again for 45 mins without anything. I even bring up my Windows Task Manager to see if I can close the im install and it doesn’t even show up as installing or anythin! is this a BETA? how long before you get it right?

we had communicated a couple of weeks ago but i still have not resolved this issue. what i did was i copied the whole application file from another computer to try to see if i could possible install from there. the error was the same. it hung at 99% and stillcould not locate the install.log file. i think it is not compatible with a program on my laptop but i cnat identify what the program or maybe firewall is. i tried to switchoff my antivirus and firewall to installbut it still is not installing. please help.

Hi Ms Sarah,
I have cracked it. the problem was not the firewall, nor was it the antivirus. It was SPEEDBIT DOWNLOAD ACCELARATOR and SPEEDBIT VIDEO ACCELARATOR. i had to uninstall both as well as DAP inorder to install Yahoo Messenger successfully. It worked. I reinstalled all three and it stopped again. It would not open after I had successfully installed it and used it. I uninstalled the first 2 and left DAP still installed and it worked without me having to reinstall Yahoo Messenger again. I hope this helps you as you advise your customers

I’ve found a solution. Don’t know if this will help anyone else. There is a folder in c:\documents and settings\all users\application data\yahoo!\yupdate that the installer needs to either write to or access. This folder ended up being corrupt and had no access rights. I renamed the entire yahoo! folder to yahoo!.old and attempted to install Yahoo! Messenger again and it worked fine.

this needs to be fixed i have win vista home premium 2GB ram 32 bit and its not letting me download either its stuck at 99% and will not let me uninstall either same message! solution please! I have no problem installing windows live messenger but i uninstalled it to see if that may have been interfering and also closed all open programs that run in the background exept for my anti virus which i shouldnt have to since it will ask my permission to proceed anyways! I dont want a bug or virus on my computer because of the possibility of a bug messing up yahoo! I do not have any special graphics cards except for whats on my mother board. i am upgrading my ram and getting a graphics card! I dont think that will solve any problems but i am simply stating what i have and what i have done and what my plans to do are.

mine say application configuration is incorrect. reinstalling the application may fix the problem. it worked fine for awhile then it jus uninstalled itself. please help this is one of the few ways i can communication with my family here in iraq

when i tried to download and install it said the same thing for julian. well first a window popped up saying

after it had apparently finished the install another window popped up saying

Here are my results from following the PDF file instructions.
