Updated 9.0 addresses Vista issues
November 18, 2008 on 10:41 am | In 9.0 version |
Thanks to everyone for their feedback here on the blog about the issues they were having when trying to run Yahoo! Messenger 9.0 on a Windows Vista PC. With your help, we were able to implement several bug fixes that have significantly reduced the number of crash reports we are seeing from Windows Vista users.
So, if you had trouble getting Yahoo! Messenger 9.0 to run on your Vista PC, please download and install the latest version (9.0.0.2034) that we released last week:
http://messenger.yahoo.com/download/win
If after installing this new version you continue to have problems with launching Yahoo! Messenger 9.0 on your Vista PC, please leave us a comment here on the blog.
Thanks,
Sarah Bacon
Product Manager

The other day after I downloaded the new version, I tried to changed the skin and did tried black and white, then all of the sudden I could not find the “personalize skin icon”. It took me hours and I keep finding the skin icon. So I decided to uninstalled the YM version 9 then I downloaded it again. At this time, it is back to normal and I won’t change the skin color to either black or white.

Couldn’t Yahoo Messenger have a bit better update system? Do I REALLY have to do the download/wizard/UAC/… thingy for every minor upgrade?
No, I STILL don’t want no toolbars and changes of my browser home site. And Y!’d better remember it from my previous installation options

Before installing this version everything was working fine except some hangs in messenger but after updating to the latest version now i have a serious problem, now i am unable to call a PC. Whenever i tried to call a PC the messenger gets hang and finally i have to kill his process…
Comment by Immi — November 18, 2008 #
There is absolutely no change for me. This 2034 build still crashes just as much on Windows Vista Ultimate 32-bit as it did before. It’s even worse on XP. Signing out it stops responding and freezes up and crashes. Random crashes because of users Webcams you’re viewing connections closing. Freezing during Sign out or Close. This still happens on both Vista and XP for me both 32 bit OS’s.
Yes I run Yahoo! Messenger 9.0.0.2034 as administrator on Vista. Yes I’ve uninstalled the previous 2018 before installing 2034.

Every time I launch Messenger..it asks me to sign in with name/password. Even tho I have ’save’ checked for those. It also always asks me to import contacts. Sigh. Using Vista Home Premium on a new HP machine. Using the latest version you mention.

Every time a new build appears I send files to see if it crashes, and just when I think it’s fixed, it just hangs, uses 99% cpu and I have to kill the process.
I have “taskkill /f /im YahooMessneger.exe” as a shortcut !

Thanks for updating for those of us with VISTA. I still cannot see the emotes and have to “hover” to see it typed as to what emote it is. The little emote box pops up with no faces…just hovering text.

This build still causes a crash when I start to type an IM to anyone within my local network at work. Sending IMs to the outside world is fine. Is there a NAT traversal issue here?

Still having problems with 2018 and 2034. I transferred a file containing custom emotes to a friend in 2034 and several and I mean several emotes failed to show up in chat. The file was received, downloaded in messenger with no problem. After that is where all went wrong. The missing ones seemed to be randomly selected for removal.

Now my Yahoo Messenger 9.0.0.2034 crashed three times in the past 2 days
Once right after signing into Yahoo Messenger then opening the email notification. Then after that it crashed again while playing a PC game SWAT 4. The one more time after installing and running Windows Live Messenger 2009 Beta.
Also I got one person that commented my blog about PC to PC calling is not up for Vista and Yahoo Messenger 9.0.0.2034.

I see many complaints and no help on this blog. Couple this with the lack of live technical help and it sucks. My old messenger worked fine and then it suddenly decided it could not connect to voice service. Th;is was with XP and no firewall. I installed the latest 9.0 and it still doesn’t work. What am I supposed to do, wait for the Yahoo Gods to fix something?

I have 9.0 messenger on this machine of mine, its vista basic.
of the problems that other users are having, I tend to worry a bit, worst possible situation can happen. Not to mention losing friends on my contact list.

I have loaded 9.0 several times and am experiencing the same problems as others, it will not launch. My error message states “Yahoo! Messenger has stopped working”. I even tried uninstalling and downgrading to 8.1, although, I was able to log on but the friends/family window was blank; I could use any of the commands. Consequently, I re-loaded 9.0 and still no luck in getting in. Btw, I too have Windows Vista. I would greatly appreciate a solution, using AIM is no comparison to Yahoo. Please give me my YM back…smile Thank you!

Hi!
I upgraded my YM to this new version…
…and, well, now my friends say they don’t see me with any status message even if I have one typed on the stat box.
They also see me online when I’m invisible.
…Now I’m beginning to think that upgrading was a bad idea…the old 9.0 version I had installed before worked just fine.
Any help, please? :-s

Still doesn’t work on full version vista 64. Crashes seconds after starting.
Comment by Adam — November 21, 2008 #
The problem seems to stem from the ads running at the bottom. The moment it tries to download the ‘next ad’ is when it crashes. What dependency does that ad have as far as other software is concerned? Flash? Quicktime? Shockwave?
Comment by Paul — November 21, 2008 #
okay I just reformatted my laptop and before I reformatted the laptop I can use messenger just fine but after I reformatted my laptop and download messenger it just keep showing the message that “messenger has stop working” I couldn’t even log in. since the thing will not show up.

Okay this new version dont work all that well either
Whenever I minimize messenger it doesnt go to the system tray like it used to
Whats up with that
Comment by natasha — November 21, 2008 #
messenger 9 can have issues if you have iolo antivirus installed, it will cause a fault in the secure32.dll.
it can also have issues if you have an older version of hauppauge wintv 2000 software installed. it overwrites system files and causes flashplayer to not install correctly as well, which in turn leads to crashes in messenger 9.
hope this helps somehow… its a pain in the butt but it can be fixed.
Comment by Jase — November 21, 2008 #
Youre problems are that you are using a crappy chat client with a crappy os. I would kill for a five year old version of messenger to go with my windows xp.
Nice big brother features in the new version too. Automatically provides updates of what I am doing on yahoo sites. Are you trying to turn YIM into facebook.
Oh and the one feature you stole from gtalk is the one feature I hate from gtalk. I want to see the persons name in front of each line they typed.
I am thinking Trillian is calling my name.
Heres a thought, how about a yahoo messenger client that actually sticks to messenging.

I have an HP Pavilion dv9000 installed with VHome Premium. I have tried to DL the Y! messenger numerous times on my laptop, and it still comes up with the same response - Yahoo Instant messenger has crashed and Windows is trying to find a fix (or something to that effect). I have been able to install the newest version on a brand new Dell Vostro desktop with VBiz, and a hand built box with Win2000 Pro.
So, what’s the issue with VHome Premium and Y!IM?

After 7 years of using YMess I switched to MSN LIVE.. mainly because i waited almost 2 years for a promised really cool and nice Messenger for Vista, and what I`m getting it`s a buggy IM client that crashes all the times, freezes, can`t get me logged in all the time..for now i`ll stick with MSN LIVE, until the release of Trillian Astra which have many of the features I`ve been waiting for 2 years in Y! For Vista.. And you decided to stop working on it..Oh, well, no problem., bye- bye buggy Yahoo, hello MSN, Trillian, open-source, no matter who.. but to provide beautiful , clean, third-millennium IM, not an 15 years old buggy Messenger reloaded.
No wonder Yahoo! Company dropped 3 times in market value this year..bad management, bad ideas, bad moves, you forgot your users and focused on advertising incomes.

Hello, I updated to the newest version and something very wacky happens every time I click on the icon
it goes black, then the color quality decreases to 8 bit 0_0
I’ve eliminated my graphics card card being the source, since it only happens when i click on it (and it also does the opposite, going from 8 to 32)
I have XP sp2 and I’m frankly scared out of my mind
any ideas y?

However if I close out of Yahoo Messenger it works fine… PLEASE BRING BACK YAHOO FOR VISTA!!!!! I’ve reported this bug three times since build 2018 was released but no-one seems interested.
Version 9 is a poor Messenger compared to 8…why don’t you keep 9 in beta till you fix all its problems??…if you ever do that is.

Don’t know if this is a related issue but I have XP and Yahoo is not connecting for me today either when it’s usually fine. I’m running an older version (ver 6) and it’s been working fine up until today. Probably a Yahoo network problem.

I keep having problems with not receiving my offline messages. This has been going on for almost a month now. Sometimes I get the message, but more often than not, I don’t. My computer has vista
, and I’m thinking that may be part of the problem. I installed YM 9.0 the day before yesterday. That was no help at all. Any ideas?
Comment by Kim — December 6, 2008 #
Okay. I’m running a laptop with Vista Home Premium 64bit and Yahoo messenger is junk. Half the time it doesn’t install or connect to the server. The other half when I try to log in it doesn’t even attempt to do anything but say connecting then take me right back to the login in page without any explanation.
Junk software + Junk Os = Pissed off Users.

i only have 1 complaint which should not be much of a problem but its irritating
me and my friends make our own conferences and when someone speaks in the conference, the ID isnt where it is supposed to be but it is halfway across the screen, could you please look into this, thanks

I have the latest version as mentioned in the blog. Unfortunately the issue remains for me. I click on the Yahoo icon to start Yahoo and nothing happens. The hard drive spins a little like it MIGHT start, but, alas, after a minute it’s apparent that it won’t.
YahooMessenger.exe appears in the process list when looking at the running task list, so it gets as far as listing itself.

My problem with Vista is that I can log into yahoo messenger, BUT NONE OF MY BUDDIES SHOW UP ONLINE.
I can go to the BETA and there they all are, but on messenger they don’t appear.

I have no problems downloading the new version on my vista but soon after I log in I get the error message saying it needs to close.
At this point I wish I had my old crappy 8 year old computer back.

Just another bug: When I minimize a conversation window (I press the “-” for minimizing) it will automatically enable the “Animate windows when minimizing/maximizing” effect in “Visual Effects”. I hate this effect and thus I have to disable it every time. And it is getting kind of annoying.

Hi. I’m running Windows Vista Sp1 and just recentlly my ym kept crashing. I have the latest version installed. Error message kept appearing regarding the Adobe Flashplayer script of some sort.. I reinstalled ym 2x already and i still get the same error msg. I was thinking maybe those advertisements shown at the bottom of messenger have script errors.

Re downloaded 9.0 and still can’t sign in. I changed my Yahoo passsword. Does that have something to do with it? It just keeps shuting off when I try to sign in, but isn’t giving me the option to put in my id and password.
Comment by Porter — December 8, 2008 #
I have 2034, Vista SP1, etc. Every time I turn it on, it asks for a username and password (even though it is always checked), then I have to redo the appearance. Sometimes, it won’t even let me change it out of the ugly “detailed” to “Compact”, as well as “real name” to “Yahoo ID”. When I minimize, even though the box is checked, it will still inform me about minimizing to the tray.

Man you guys suck bad, still the issue with AERO and still a bad issue with webcams. Sometimes Yahoo crashes for no reasons and sometimes the cam doesnt work at all.
Comment by Jose — December 10, 2008 #
I am still having a problem downloading YM. I have worked on YM before and then all of a sudden it stopped working. I have uninstalled the new version 6 times and still I get a network connection error. I have not changed my network or the connection. I did not move anything around or unplug cables. Gmail IM works fine. My preference is Yahoo Messenger. This problem has been going on for weeks and I have tried to get it rectified through emailing Yahoo for assistance without any response from Yahoo.
Comment by Marcia — December 10, 2008 #
You guys should just scrap again the current Yahoo 9.0 and redo the code from scratch. You should have continued using the Yahoo 8.0 format, it was great it really didnt need a lot of new features.
Comment by Jose — December 11, 2008 #
It should be obvious to anyone reading this thread that YAHHOO DOES NOT CARE about the fact that v 9 sucks and does not work. The only question above that they answered was from a moron who did not know how to double click on a contact to start a conversation. Cmon Yahoo, at least try to answer the questions above!

I’m still having issues with the webcam…When I close yahoo or the cam it freezes up. I have 2 systems…and it does it on both. Vista Home 32-bit and Vista Home 64-bit SP1. I hate when progs freeze up…

I have a rather annoying problem in Vista with v9.. Whenever I enter a chatroom, the client crashes.
If it’s any help, I always see the same ad in the bottom of the chat client. It starts with the icon of a PC with the words “Computer” under it - it ALWAYS crashes at the same moment.
And I get the crash no matter what chatroom I try to enter.

I just installed the latest version of Yahoo IM 9 on my Acer Aspire 5610 and it wont even start up. I press the icon in both the quick launch bar and in the Yahoo messenger file of the programs list on the start menu.
When press the icon, I get the icon like the computer is thinking (like the hour glass but a spinning circle) but then it just stops, and nothing happens.

I am trying to install Yahoo! messenger on my Windows Vista’ Laptop. It seems that I am getting the popular probelm “Messenger encountered a connection problem. Please check the network connection and then click “Try Again”. (81003004) ”
Although I downloaded the latest version mentioned above in this page. I tried several times (Install/Uninstal) with no luck!
After doing uninstall still:
- Yahoo! Install Manager, and
- Yahoo! Internet Mail
appear in “Control Panel\Programs and Features” that I can uninstall.
Help will be highly appreciated.
