  2. I have tried several times to install messenger 9.0 on my Vista, I have done all the instructions have said to do. Firewall is off, user account is off, still I get this message. “Windows has encounted a problem with program, causing it to not work correctly. and is closing the program”. I need to know what else I can do. I had it at one time and need to get it back. I need your help. please email me some instructions.

Yahoo Messenger does not crash on my vista x64 but it takes more than usual time to start, this happens on windows XP either.

  11. For once, I give Yahoo some minor credit here. The Vista Messenger seemed like a potentially good idea, every version I tried stank like sh**. Version 9 works flawlessly on my Vista Home Premium. I dumped the “gadget” crapola and haven’t looked back.

Now, if Yahoo would only give some attention to the abortion which is chat.. that would be a miracle!

Like what I said experiment with it, don’t go overboard with it. Don’t make it too flashy, yahoo 9 is adequate for my needs.
It hit me when I had problems with yahoo file transfer. I had to set it to EI7. so far so good no crashes.
and file transfer seem to resume smoothly at times.
don’t add any widgets please, they can drain resources on those who vista basic.
Don’t make it flashy or add any useless junk. it has to be simple and easy

  17. it’s no problem if you have a genuwine vista and install it properly…if you have vista you have to download it and install it “as administroator”…if some idiots don;t know to install it…that doesn’t meen that 9 has a problem.the only problem with 9 is that you have to bring back the larger smileys…make the avatar screen larger…and make the contacts view like the vista and like windows live beta version.thanks

  24. Your new Yahoo messenger 9.0 is a joke. Every time I try to install it it always tells me “Incorrect Command Line Parameters” which wont complete the installation. Why did you have to mess up a good thing from the old Yahoo messenger with this 9.0 piece of trash. I have been a Yahoo customer for years, maybe its time to look at what your competitors have to offer loyal customers like myself.

  25. Well gues what? When you download this crappy 9.0 it doesn’t happen on my brand new putr with vista. It don’t like it and right now I am back to 8.1 you dummies. I would if I were there fire you all and get somebody who is competent in yahoo so thats all I have to say and hope somebody with authority sees this before you dummies that put this out. By the way I am not a dummy. I am also pissed with you and your chat room and how we have to get in because it does not work and if it did I would be in. Get rid of your idea to get rid of spammers because we can’t get in either

Also, i did figure out if that message comes up showing it cannot open it has helped me to right click on yahoo messenger and click run as admin, then try to open it.. it usually does. That is the only way i have found out how to open it as is. Hope this helps some people that have had trouble getting it open.

  35. Dear juventin

If you would have the patience to read the posts you will see that the main problem is not with the installation but after that. It installs with no problem but it crashes after that. The message “YM9 has stoped working” does not have anything to do with the users.

you should be more polite on a public blog when you don’t know all the facts.

  36. SOLDIER IN IRAQ- I, as well, have encountered the message “Windows has encounted a problem with program, causing it to not work correctly. and is closing the program” several times. I have Vista and I once had the program a couple of months ago then had to restore my comp back to factory settings due to some problems. Given my current location it is vital that I have a reliable instant messenger program with webcam for communicating with family and friends back in the United States. I hope this problem is fixed ASAP because it is starting to make me very angry.

  37. So Far.. I don’t have any problems with that messenger (ver 9). My theory is maybe Microsoft’s “UAC” (“User Account Control”) may be effecting, and interfering with some of the people’s downloads and installs. I am running the current version of messenger on a PC running Windows Vista Home Premium with 2gb ram.

Why, I mentioned this? While the “UAC” feature is turned on.. I have had many problems installing other software, and Hardware on this PC. I turned the the “UAC” off, and I don’t have that problem anymore with any hardware, or software. Oh, yah, by the way, This PC was purchased with Vista on it. I never had Window’s XP on this PC.

Over the Internet, I have read that Microsoft will NOT include that (“UAC”) feature in there next Window’s operating system (“Window’s 7″), as it is a very annoying, and worthless feature anyway.

My messenger work’s fine so far. My only issue is in the chat room’s. Well, really not the chat room’s, but, creating, and changing chat name’s in profiles. It appears that Yahoo done away with that service when they switched to the new profiling system about a month ago. We used to be allowed to have up to 7 different chat name’s per account. I still have my old chat sub-names, but, I can’t change them anymore.
I wish they (Yahoo) bring back that feature, to where we can create or change chat sub names.

As for the one’s that are having problem’s downloading, and installing the messenger. If you are using Vista.. Try turning the UAC feature off that might help. Good Luck.

  38. “Over the Internet, I have read that Microsoft will NOT include that (”UAC”) feature in there next Window’s operating system (”Window’s 7″), as it is a very annoying, and worthless feature anyway.”

That is incorrect on all counts, Kevin. Windows 7 will have UAC just like Vista (tweaked to generate fewer prompts, however). That said, UAC is no different than the elevate prompts Mac OS X and Linux sport when you install most applications.

  39. Yahoo 9 is working fine on Vista Ultimate 32bit edition in general but sometimes there are undefined crashes and freeze occurs. Mostly when switching between chat rooms, enabling disabling voice in conferences.
I think Web cam issue with Yahoo 9 must be fixed as Lot of regular webcam users cant use their webcam with Yahoo 9
3rd, There should also be an offline installer/ setup for Yahoo 9 instead of Always going for Online Setup. This also creates random errors during the setup

    Comment by winsock.kernel — November 7, 2008 #

  42. Wes.. I have read an article about the “UAC” feature saying that it would not be included in the next windows OS. You have read another article saying that it will be. Maybe you’re right. The only way we’ll know, is to wait until Windows 7 come’s out.

But, that “UAC” feature is not just only a prompt. If it was, it would’nt be such a big issue with Microsoft. You can read all about it on various articles in such as “technet, cnet news, etc…” READ THE ARTICLES! The “UAC” feature when it is turned on blocks programs from installing, and running in the background. When I first got this PC. I didn’t know anything about that feature. I couldn’t install and run most of my software, and hardware with that feature turned on. There was one day, I have read an article about it (about installing various software, and hardware with that feature turned on), and I gave it a try, and turned that feature off, then tried installing the hardware, software, etc.. You know what, IT WORKED!

So, what I’m saying is.. Maybe turning off that feature just before downloading something or installing something might help. Not all the time will it help, but, it helped me out alot turning that feature off.

Microsoft designed that feature not only as a security feature to keep other people from downloading and installing certain programs that can be potentially harmful to you’re PC. But, to keep a tight grip on programs that run in the background. And to keep a tight control on who runs, downloads, and installs stuff on you’re PC. It’s a good feature for security purposes. But for me, I don’t have a use for it.

  47. if you have issues with messenger crashing or not installing at all on vista, its most likely caused by corrupted system files. if you have taken ownership of any files in the system folders changed permissions or installed something that has over written any of these critical files it will cause these crashes. it can also cause flash player to not install correctly, along with other side effects. the only way i was able to fix these problems completely was to do a fresh install of vista. mine was caused by installing the software for my old tv tuner, its software over wrote some files and instantly cause messenger to crash. alot of people have corrupted these files without knowing it.

  64. Over 3/4 of the people here need to relax. Yahoo doesn’t “owe” you crap! They’ve admited they needed to toss the YM for Vista, and get a single version- that’s cool, because the beta YM4V didn’t have forward to cell, etc.

Seems like they’re really trying NEW things like get in touch with specific users. I will help them figure it out. god forbid you can’t IM for a few days. Use the web applet if your freakin’ life depends on it.

    Grow up, everyone who complains.

  65. Yes, Yahoo doesn’t “owe” me crap but I am a customer, when my favorite restaurant goes from gourmet food to serving s**t I leave and go eat somewhere else where I can feel good.

Messenger for vista worked pretty well on vista, instead I have to install that ugly incompatible thing that is 9…
