How long still the next version 9 beta refresh comes out?

the iTunes music link is still broken….

another useless release that fixes one problem but leaves the dozen other problems sent over email and feedback forms for months and even posted here on blog.
would be nice to have working cam again. the issue still effects a good 20-30 percent mac users for whatever reason. definitely a client end glitch when same users can work cam on 2.5.3 or boot camp in windows version. yet mac client hangs on initial cam packet over 5050 and fails to send subsiquent packets until client relaunch. seems to send a malformed cam request packet server responds to with a null request that confuses client and hangs it on “starting webcam connection”. ive logged these failures in packets and sent them via feedback. would be nice to hear something.

The last update was supposed to do all kinds of great things, and they all worked fine for the first three hours, and then those things began messing up again.. How can they possibly pinpoint something that makes it crash? Just about everything can make it crash sometimes…
Comment by Ryan — August 29, 2008 #
The engineers have been working on other projects, so unfortunately we couldn’t do more than a quick fix for the worst crasher right now. We are aware of the other issues, and the webcam issue in particular is interesting as we have trouble reproducing it so any and all info or experiences you have will help narrow down when and why it does and doesn’t happen.
Thanks,
Chris Saari

Chris, I tried emailing detailed packets, where it is happening and where it is not happening as well as other data on issue to the old mac beta @yahoo address but it’s no longer active. I tried sending via the cgi submit form but those are never as seen as a real email might have been. But if you do want to link up with me I’d be more than happy to trouble shoot it with you. I have used 3 diff test machines, Power Mac G4, MacBook Pro 1,1 and a 2008 Mac Pro. All running 10.5.4 except mac pro, is running latest 10.5.5 seeds (it had a lot of TCP related bug fixes I wanted to test just to be certain, none of these fixes had any improvement on cam functionality in mac messenger).
These same computers can access cam fine on 2.5.3 as well as the two intel macs can use cam fine in Yahoo Messenger 9 beta. So this suggests it isn’t an issue with network end of things. I also made sure ports 5050 and 5100 are open on port forwarding in router. uPNP is also enabled for extra measure. Mac OS X firewall is shut off completely.
As for trouble shooting cam fails to establish a connection incoming or outgoing 99% of the time no matter what. The rare cases are when it actually works, not when it fails. So collecting bad packets is easy, it’s just hard to iron out what causes it to work in very very rare cases. Typically it only works for one user on entire contact list, and only after a fresh client launch. Try with any other user and it stops working for the one it works with. Also, it only works if this one user is idle, if they are at computer it stops working with them too. It’s quite a difficult trouble shooting. The issue is also retro, ALL 3.0 betas back to original beta 1 release are effected. Although mind you, those beta’s used to work. THese issues cropped up when the new patches went live on messenger servers when they moved and patched some exploits, as well as went to new data center i believe a while back. Like the issues cropped up the very same day. So i have always felt issue was related to that somehow some way. BUt that it’s also one that can be fixed in local client since 9.0 beta works ( so clearly it’s doing something diff than the mac client).

I don’t have problems using or watching webams on this build, but ever since I moved to Version 3, I can’t make my cam image larger; it is always small and the “large” command on the YM webcam menu is grayed out. Any ideas?

Will you guys ever fix the file transfer issue? I have PC version of Yahoo Messenger 8.1, and then my friend has the Mac version of the newly released build of Yahoo Messenger and the file transfer issue continues to exist, when he signs on the first file sends, but when I send him a second file it doesn’t go through and it just keeps saying connecting.
He signs off and signs back in and he’s able to get the 1st file that I send him but when I send another it happens again. Hopefully this issue will be added to your list of issues for Mac Yahoo Messenger.

Hello Chris
Release 3.0 beta (build 126432) crashes when accepting a request for voice chat. I have a MacBook 2GHz with 2Gbytes ram running 10.5.5.
I do appreciate your comment that your engineers are busy with other projects, but yahoo hay wish to note that Mac users have no utility for voice/webcam chat other than this miserable beta release
MS messenger and other clients are well behind; so it will be a record achievement if you can manage to fix yahoo messenger.
Thank you for all the good work.

As in other YM version 3.0 for mac, I can’t connect properly to yahoo. I always get disconnected every 1 or 2 minutes using “Behind Firewall” connection in our office. PC versions of YM are very stable in our office, but the mac versions can’t remain connected. I have another colleague with the exact same problem. What could be the cause? I never had problems with the YM 2.5.3 version, but I can’t use it now in my Leopard for some reason. Of course, i want the 3.0 to work since it has much better features.
Hope to hear from you guys soon!

OMG! I have just re-installed the latest version of Yahoo Beta 3.0..again! Soo unhappy! Why does it freeze EVERY time I log in?? for the 1st minute, I can not do a thing with it. Still same problem with cam connecting for a bit, then spontaneously dropping off.
Also, a HUGE problem is me logging in and my friends who are in my list and ONLINE, appear offline to me. There have been times when I have been logged in for half hour or so, and suddenly it corrects itself, as if my friends have just signed in.
ALSO, sometimes when my friends do appear online, I send the ims and they respond, but their replies do not come to me.. it appears that I am ignoring them! Soo frustrating. I never had a problem with MSN.. is only the fact that yahoo is the only one supporting cam & voice options that I’m putting up with it for now!! But time is running out.
Pleeeeease help.. before all hope is lost!

I have been experiencing this problem with my ym for mac quite about for a week even up to now. Whenever I login, my ym just keeps on loading and loading and does not show up the whole window of my ym. Why is this happening? This happened after i logged out with a status in my ym when I logged again, that started to happened.

Help! I can’t install yahoo at all. When I drag the icon into my applications folder and open it all I get is the same picture telling me to drag the yahoo icon into my application folder.

Having the same problem as angel70×7. Just began this morning… I sign into Yahoo Messenger and it just spins the little wheel and says loading, then I can tell that I’m connected and I receive messages but the connection window never changes into the contact list! I tried logging in with another account, and it worked immediately with no problem. What is going on with this and how can I fix it???

I also have the same problems with the file transfer feature exactly as mentioned above.
Mine also wont stay connected when behind a firewall. This is really annoying that yahoo cant get it right for mac. I just dont understand how it can be so hard.
Id be more than happy not to have half the features of the Windows version if the basics would just work correctly.
With the number of people switching to macs growing everyday, this seems like really bad business on yahoos part.
(my yahoo just crashed again while i was typing this
