Thanks to everyone who attended our first-ever Yahoo! Messenger Workshop yesterday. You asked great questions and kept us on our toes!
Click here to read the Workshop transcript
Here’s a sampling of some of the questions we answered:
- How do I chat with msn messenger users?
- Do I need to select the Vista Yahoo IM for my new Dell laptop that came equipped with Vista? I see it is a Beta version, should I download the XP or try the Beta?
- when you sign off of messenger and sign onto your messages to go to your cell phone… how do you respond to those txts you get and is your cell number shown to the others you are answering?
- How do I play games and chat?
- I just signed on im today, will i need to upgrade when new programs are available?
- Can Y! messenger be used to call local phones?
- …and many more!
We’ll be holding more Yahoo! Messenger Workshops in the future, so stay tuned to the blog!

I read through the transcript and had tom make a comment. You copped out on one question key to all long term users. Quoting:
“G-238689670: how does yahoo messenger report spammrs on im and chat channels? We need more security from im’s contactin us when i didnt ask them to respond to me or not in chat channel
YMessengerMelissa: If you’re experiencing spam or are being harassed by other users, please report it to Customer Care. If you’re chatting within Yahoo! Messenger, you can click on Help>Report Abuse within your IM window to notify Yahoo! of an offensive message.”
This was a cop out. We know darn well that reporting of these spammers has been useless and a source of never ending complaints from users. Yet you respond as if you are actually doing something about it and that our reports mean something. Do you folks actually believe what you said? Are you that delusional?
And if what you said was true, how about explaining to us exactly how that information is used and documenting some concrete results. I have reported literally thousands of spammers (OK SPIMers) and have yet to see anything come of it. In fact, I can;t even ignore them any more. My bin filled up ages ago. So I sure don’t see where this reporting serves a purpose except to try to fool users into believeing you are dealing with a problem you clearly aren’t dealing with.
You copped out. And that was cowardly. Shame on you.

@andrei1015 — I’m sorry your questions were not answered in the chat– we did receive over 2,000 submissions from users so it’s hard to get to them all
What were your questions?
Comment by mdaniels — August 28, 2008 #
@mdaniels:
1. Is the mass-message feature ever going to dissapear?
2. Is the tabbedIM option be available on version 9.0 or 8 for WindowsXP?

how would I unsubscribe to I’m on SMS?
Comment by Realyn — August 31, 2008 #
Why am I not able to open someone’s profile? It gives me an error message saying “Windows cannot find such and such webpage”. What is this error caused by and how do I fix the problem?

Does Yahoo plan to get rid of all of the fake people in the chat rooms?
Thanks!

@andrei1015
I’m not sure what you mean by the mass-messaging feature, but if you’re referring to the feature that lets you right click on a group and message them all at once, we have no plans to discontinue this feature.
As far as the tabbed IM, this is a feature not available in 8.1 or the 9.0 beta and right now, we don’t plan on including it in these versions.
Hope this helps.

@Realyn
If you’re using the new 9.0, go to Messenger>Preferences>General. At the bottom of the page you’ll see the option of “Edit Mobile Device.” From here, you can click “Delete” to remove your phone. Also, be sure the option of “Always sign me out to my mobile device” is not checked. If you’re using a Mac, these preferences can be found under File and then you’ll see a menu for your Mobile Device.

how do i delete all traces of me im
Comment by angealine — September 6, 2008 #
How come the majority of the questions where those answerable by promoting a feature?
How come there where no real questions about the poor quality, the bugs that last through whole versions, nevermind betas? (Such as the language filter bug).
Comment by Tommy — September 7, 2008 #
I notice the order of my contact list keeps changing while I am chatting. I have searched for months for an explanation of this in Yahoo Help with no success. Anyone have a clue?
Thanks,

Is there a place I can look for or post bugs for Yahoo Messenger Vista? Thank you
Comment by James — September 8, 2008 #
Hi James,
There is an official Yahoo! Group for Yahoo! Messenger for Vista. While there is not a bug list posted there, members of that that group that hears first about updates to the product. You can sign up through the link below:

After reading the transcript. I noticed that none of the really good questions, that I’m sure were asked, were answered. Such as:
When will the “ignore chat invitations” option work.
Why do we still have to enter a stupid code to enter chat when it is totally worthless at stopping bots?
