New to Messenger? Come to the Workshop!

August 20, 2008 on 11:40 am | In News |

If you’re a new user of Yahoo! Messenger or want to brush up on some of the many features Yahoo! Messenger offers, here’s your chance.

Yahoo! Messenger is happy to announce a new resource for Messenger users, called the Workshop. These Workshops are live, online, moderated chats led by Yahoo! staff, with a focus on a specific topic of conversation at a specific, scheduled time.

Our first Workshop for the Yahoo! Messenger team will focus on New User features and orientation, and will be held on Monday, August 25th from 4pm to 5pm Pacific Time (time zone converter). During the workshop, we’ll answer questions about basic Yahoo! Messenger tips and tricks.

We’ll post the full transcript of the session on the blog afterwards so you can catch up.

If you’re a seasoned Yahoo! Messenger user, then this new user workshop is probably not for you. But keep checking back here for dates on upcoming Workshops. Future Workshops will feature more advanced topics including the latest Yahoo! Messenger 9.0 Beta.

See you in the Workshop!

Best,

Melissa Daniels

  2. That really funny you say the first topic will be talking about new user features LOL you have to fix the problems with the ones you have already. Besides we are still waiting on features for yahoo messenger vista and they still are not out and your talking about new one……LOL……I think you need to complete what you started and not start new things

  3. Hi Dean,

    The workshop is not about new features, but about helping new USERS learn how to use the product. So if you’re new to Yahoo! Messenger, this workshop is designed for you.

  4. I HAVE to see this. I am curious as to how you are going to handle the undoubted onslaught of pent up frustration from all of us long time loyal users you have so skillfully ignored. Suddenly you will be confronted by people asking the same question over and over to which we never get an answer… when will you fix the porn bot infestation? This is going to be fun!

  6. Honestly, I think this is a waste of time. You guys should seriously focus more on developing your product than posting useless and irrelevant content in your blog.

    I mean, look at your most recent posts:

    * New to Messenger? Come to the Workshop!
    * Parlez-vous Messenger Blog?
    * Knock knock - you have an IM
    * Doodle your life away
    * Do the dance

    Only the post entitled “Parlez-vous Messenger Blog?” was somewhat relevant.

    Articles that tackle YM “How-To” and “We-Have-This-Feature” (which most of us already knew about for the longest time anyways) stuff should really be in other sections of the Yahoo Messenger site.

    You could either stop doing these stuff or make a separate DEVELOPMENT-only blog for seasoned users. Please, I really hate being let down by this kind of content as I only go to the YM Blog to see the DEVELOPMENT of YM.

  9. Hi William,

    We did answer that question in the Workshop yesterday. While we don’t have a firm release date, it is coming soon and we’ll let our blog readers know as soon as possible.

    You can read the full Workshop transcript here:

  12. I tried to delete a contact from my address book and it can’t be deleted it gives me this error message “error code 40402″. Is this perhaps a way some phishing program is into my system?

  14. Yahoo Messenger has been going from bad to worse since version 6! new features and new look => more and more resources. The 9th version is in beta for a very long time and with no visible changes…at least tell us when a new beta is available.
    Once i changed my id and deleted the old one, to many contacts in the ignore list they started to contact me :O
    And when i started adding people to the new id, it stopped working, i couldn’t even sign in for a couple of weeks and after that when i did sign in i’ve lost all of my contacts.

    So please take care of the bugs it already has and after that implementing new features…

    BTW the vista version is FUBAR!!!

  15. Hi Dan,

    Error code 40402 is something sent back to Messenger from the Yahoo! Address Book system when you are trying to make a change to the contact. The code translates to: Requested contact to be updated or deleted does not exist. The contact does not exist.

    So my guess is that the contact was already deleted from your Address Book but not from your Messenger list. In that case, I recommend right clicking on the contact in your Messenger list, choosing “Delete” and then NOT checking the box that says “Delete from Address Book too”. That should remove it from your Messenger list and it’s already gone from your address book. If needed, you can go to http://address.yahoo.com to make sure as well.

  16. Hey Sarah,
    I want to give an advise/feedback on Yahoo Chatrooms. I m orignally from the country Pakistan and i normally join Pakistani Rooms. As i can find Indian Chatooms are categorised according to their cities for example Mumbai global chat, calcutta global chat and others but Pakistani rooms are not categorised by its cities. Pakistan is divdided into four provinces , Punjab,Sindh,Balochistan & NWFP. so there should be Islamabad global chat (Punjab), Lahore Global Chat(Punjab), Peshawar global chat( Nwfp), Karachi global chat(SIndh), Quetta Global chat (Balochistan) etc in the Pakistan Category. I had seen mostly of the countries which had been categorized such as UK,USA, India and others. I am a positive person but since i live in the deep south of Pakistan, I have been verbally abused by some people from the north of pakistan due to my accent and values. and once the Pakistan rooms will be categorised people will be happy to join the rooms from where they belong and once they ll go in different pakistani rooms they will some respect for others as well.. I will be thankful if you will work out on this little feedback which can change alot of people’s attitudes and behaviour and bring more positiveness to to the community of Yahoo Messenger,
    Regards,

  17. PC-to-PC call used to work in the past, but it doesn’t for sometime now. Re-installing the software many times yet no success booked. Wondering what could be the cause of the problem.

    Would appreciate any input on this.
