Ok, dots is a game where:

Each player ,in turns, makes a line between two dots using a different color( for example player one uses red while player two uses blue)
The lines can only bevertical or horizontal (diagonals one aren't allowed)

Each time you close(form) a square you are allowed to connect another line ( you get another turn)
If you close a square you alsoe check it with an X on the inside (so at the end of the game the winner can be determined)

Doodle is GREAT! I use it for explaining things or just to 'get it out'. I do however miss an 'undo' (at least one step) option.

You wondered about the grid of dots option for doodling.. I'm thinking that's the same game we called "dots" when I was a kid. You start with a grid of dots, and then take turns connecting any two dots together. Whenever a player is able to connect 4 dots into a little box, they'd put their initial into any boxes they win. The one with the most boxes at the end of the game wins. The idea is to create long tunnels that eventually force one player to make 3 sides of a box, then the other player closes the box, then the next box, then the next, on and on, until the tunnel comes to an end. fine entertainment for when you have to be quiet, like in church or school. give it a shot.
