Sharing Flickr pics in Yahoo! Messenger 9.0

Photo sharing is one of the most popular features in Yahoo! Messenger 9.0. It’s really easy to share pictures from your computer or from an account on Flickr.com, Yahoo!’s online photo sharing service.
Flickr lets you upload pictures to their site which you can then share with friends, family and if you want, even the general public that browses on Flickr. Once your photos are online at Flickr, you can also access them to share with friends while you IM. Here’s how it works…
The first step is to make sure your photos are on Flickr. Flickr is free, so just head over to Flickr.com, sign in with your Yahoo! ID, and then click the Upload Photos link to get started.
Then the next time you’re on IM and want to share photos from your Flickr account, just click the “Photos” button in the IM window. This will send a message to your friend, asking them to accept your photo sharing invitation. Once they accept, a side panel opens on your IM window (and your friend’s). This is the area where you can view the photos you share.
Once the side panel is open, click the “+ Add Photos” button and choose “Add from Flickr…”. This will bring up the Flickr Photo Picker window that shows your Flickr photostream. Use the dropdown menu to choose photos from a specific set you have on Flickr, or enter a tag in the search box to find photos. When you see a photo you want to share, just click it and it’s automatically added to the photo sharing panel. Or, click the “Add All” button.
While you’re adding photos, your friend can add their own to the window from their Flickr account, or from their hard drive. Next thing you know, you’ve got a bunch of photos to look at (and discuss!). One last tip – if you want to save any of the photos your friend shares with you, click the “Save” button in the photo panel to save them to your own Flickr account or to your computer.

“. One last tip – if you want to save any of the photos your friend shares with you, click the “Save” button in the photo panel to save them to your own Flickr account or to your computer. ”
You do realize you’re actively encouraging people to violate flickr’s rules right?

There is some bad advice here….if you upload your friends pictures to your Flickr account, there is a good chance you will lose your flickr account as uploading pictures you did not take yourself is not allowed there.
If you do this, you risk deletion as it is contrary to the Flickr Community Guidelines.
Comment by MT501 — September 24, 2009 #
this is also a violation of the TOS of both flickr and Y! in that it is encouraging the use of copyrighted materials not owned by the person who posts them to their flickr account.
it’s also against the law.
the function should be disabled: you are essentially touting a feature that will cause deletions at flickr, which cannot be recovered, and the blame will be pointed right here to the IM team.
please fix this needless cause of account deletions.

“if you want to save any of the photos your friend shares with you, click the “Save” button in the photo panel to save them to your own Flickr account or to your computer.”
This is in clear violation of the Flickr Terms of Service. An individual cannot upload anyhting to their Flickr account they did not create.
Please fix this immediately.

This statement is a violation to the of Flickr the Flickr Community Guidelines
http://www.flickr.com/guidelines.gne
Do upload content that you have created.
Respect the copyright of others. This means don’t steal photos or videos that other people have shared and pass them off as your own. (That’s what favorites are for.)

if you want to save any of the photos your friend shares with you, click the “Save” button in the photo panel to save them to your own Flickr account or to your computer. >>>>>>>>>>>>>> Sounds like copyright infringement to me and a violation of Flickr terms of service !
Comment by cajunlady50 — September 24, 2009 #
I suggest you read this :
http://www.pitt.edu/~skvarka/education/copyright/
Then remove this feature ! Eventually Yahoo will be in court over copyright infringements and violations from the owners of the photos ! !
Comment by cajunlady50 — September 24, 2009 #
Now READ Flickr TOS:
http://www.flickr.com/guidelines.gne
Your feature clearly violates this !

Point in question at Flickr:
Don’t upload anything that isn’t yours.
This includes other people’s photos, video and/or stuff you’ve collected from around the Internet. Accounts that consist primarily of such collections may be terminated at any time.
