Mac message format; New Messenger website
May 6, 2008 on 1:57 pm | In Mac version |
From the archives of little known features comes the message format style in Yahoo! Messenger for Mac.
A couple of versions ago, we included a new option for the format of your IM messages in the conversation window. In addition to the usual default style that has the colored bar across each speech bubble, you can also choose an alternate simplestyle for your window.
To change between message format styles, just go to the Messenger menu, choose Preferences, and click the “Messaging” icon. You’ll see a drop-down menu for Conversation style. There is also a similar menu for conference window formatting right below it.
In the future, we hope to make the message format platform open, which would allow users to come up with new themes on their own. One of our designers, Brian Kobashikawa, used WebKit CSS3 to develop another style he named “Kobi Lite”. While this one isn’t available to the public, we hope to offer our additional formats and possibly those made by others users in the future.
On another note, we launched a brand new Yahoo! Messenger website this week. Same URL and products, just a new look and feel including a feature comparison chart across versions, and a new import contacts wizard that lets you add or invite friends to Yahoo! Messenger from your Yahoo! Address Book as well as other email services like Gmail, Hotmail, AOL and many more.

The yahoo messenger is cool, I have a MAC with Leopard and the voice does not work I can heard the people talking but they can not heard my voice when I make a call to a cell phone or a land line. Could you all please help me? please email me.

The new website looks very nice! i have posted news articles about it on 8 websites. I was one of the first to actually notice it because i was surfing the website at the time then all of a sudden the page changed when i followed the next page of the website. The feature chart page does remind me of how microsoft have their layouts. Maybe its just me.
It looks very nice and i will point out that the plugins are now supported with Yahoo Messenger 9.0(BETA) , If you surf the Yahoo Messenger website you will notice they have a new page where you can download plugins. They have a big database of plugins and i already downloaded lots of them for Yahoo Messenger 9.0(BETA) , if you go to gallery.yahoo.com and download them for yahoo messenger 9 then it will tell you that you need Yahoo Messenger 8.0 or later. All good on the Yahoo Messenger site now they support plugins for Yahoo Messenger 9.0(BETA)

One more style is OK, but don’t mess this beauty with user-generated styles. Thank you.

Nice new site.. however, since the Mac version is STILL in BETA.. you should probably note that on the site somewhere so people dont waste time downloading the same version that they already have… just a thought..

Cool! Finally got what I have been looking for, now I won’t have to carry my heavy office notebook with me everyday. Thx guys for making it possible; briefly tested the service and worked beautifully for the call to a land-line. Will test the pc-to-pc call later tonight. Thanks a ton!

Ditto to other comments, the mac version is still a BETA, I wasted my time today downloading from the messenger site only to find out after installing that the program hadn’t changed.

This version is a great improvement over the previous version. The calling feature is cool to have. I look forward to picture share and imvironments support. Right now these are the features that make it awkward to truly work with windows XP users. Keep up the good work and hope to see more updates soon

The new Yahoo Messenger 3.0 Beta 3 is a mess . . . I am running an iMac with the Intel Duo and the interface is a disaster . . . Yahoo freezes at times with just simple messaging . . . and if iSight is used . . the entire sytem freezes up and the computer has to be rebooted . . . all because of Yahoo Messenger . . . GET IT TOGETHER!!!!!!

i think that the yahoo for mac is wonderful. since i use i chat before i could only video chat with people who had ichat or people who had aol and that would rarely work. seems to work everytime with yahoo. only thing ive notices it the video is a lil delayed with yahoo. its much faster in the ichat.

Please add photosharing to the Mac version ASAP, I can`t live without this feature and keep my windows laptop turned on just to use yahoo.
Also please make the Mac Yahoo look just like the Windows version. The current skin is awfull and so “empty”.
Thank you.
