9.0 wins best IM award

Thanks to everyone for voting for Yahoo! Messenger in the About.com 2008 IM Awards. We just found out this morning that we did win one of our categories: Best Instant Messenger Experience for Yahoo! Messenger 9.0.
Here’s what About.com had to say about our latest version:
- For what its worth, Yahoo! Messenger 9.0 delivers a pretty smooth experience from start to finish. I have to admit Ive seen adium and you guys with mac are lucky to have that.
Sadly I know they wont make one for Vista or XP for that matter which is understandable.

Daniel, try Trillian, it’s the closest you can get to Adium (in matters of coolness). Another is Pidgin (the same source code as Adium)

Suggestion: when we copy a conversation, the emoticons should go untranslated into images when entering the clipboard so that when you paste you also see the emoticons.

Like I wrote before, Yahoo! has a lot of great features that you won’t find come close on AIM; while there is much debate about how many bugs there are in Yahoo! 9.0, I will say this: without bugs, there would not be any need for progress. Without progress, and we IM users would be left out in the cold with a bunch of lame messengers.
I’ll take what Yahoo! is dishing out any day.

No kidding, and for another thing, lets get something else done besides the capcha text to rids bots of chat, that process is not working. Leave it to Yahoo to implement a worthless fix. I know people who are willing to help Yahoo get Messenger back working properly, as to this day they are still unwilling to answer plea’s from the people who know Yahoo Messenger the best, the chatters. Lets get 9.0 out of beta and also get Yahoo Messenger for Vista going as promised to be done by the middle of last year.

we are all very happy that yahoo messenger 9 won this contest.
so now you can do something on the captcha because it really not work at all,a person that know a little from programming can go arround it and get so many bots in chatroom as they want,why you not use assira ???? it’s much more safe as captcha they even not can login bots anymore then,after a few time type wrong for go in they just block your ip.
or why they not make yahoo chat that everybody can only use 1 id with 1 single ip address????

Eddy, the Assira method would be the best available option for bots. Get rid of them once and for all. But 1 ID per IP wouldn’t work at all for a simple reason….proxies.

I think Yahoo Messenger is the best messenger out there. If that’s all you use it for.
Personally I use it as a messenger, but also to chat in the chatrooms.
And those are shot to hell by bugs and bots and what not.
I wonder why Yahoo puts so much effort into shining up the messenger, but apparently none into fixing the chatroom situation.
Yahoo chat has basically been crap since Yahoo decided to get rid of user created chatrooms.
And it’s lost like 80% of it’s former users because of it.
Talk about stupid business strategies.

It may be the best according to whatever standards they used, but the chat rooms within messenger are absolutely awful. And that is an understatement. For every real person in a chat room, there are at least 10-20 bots to counter them. Up until all the changes were made last couple years, i was able to actually chat and meet many different people in here. now i’m lucky to find one person that isnt a weirdo in about a month’s time. Abbey said it the best.

What about 8.1 and the some of the rooms are still not all open in higher numbers and there is a need for this because some people just cant get along.
And the Code to get in a room lately has been so bad that I have to try three times to get in because I cant make out the numbers or letters at times
I know this has nothin to do with this message but how else am I to get a message to you ?

I’m a long time Yahoo chat user, I love chatting in Yahoo’s free chat rooms and Yahoo messenger is my favorite IM client but I did not vote for for Yahoo messenger 9 as the best IM because I don’t like anything over version 6.

I love Yahoo 9 because you can personalize it and make it your own. You practically control it, and it is the latest in technology LOL. And I am a ling time user of many different versions of Yahoo! Messenger and I think all the versions rock, but the best haves been 9

Agree with the others, I think YM is the best coz of its user friendly settings and always up to date set up. Fast and have lots of new features. Updated and have many helpful services for its users.

I like yahoo, since 13yrs i am using and i love the messenger voice feature. its improve lot but paid one yahoo out still need improvement.

Yahoo people:
Yahoo messenger was great when it first started up until about 5 years ago when you started tinkering with it hardcore. First it was the “connecting to chatroom” lie that was a ploy to make us watch an advertisement. That was an insult. Then you add in all this other garbage like internet radio and phone. You keep trying to make it this super great program, but that’s not what people want. They just want a simple messenger program. Which is what you had years ago. It’s just like Real Player. They kept adding junk until it was the most bloated and annoying software on your computer.

i want to tell u that you better add one thing to the messenger and this thing is translator. as u know that many people chat here and some don’t know English and they want to chat with the pals who only speak English, it will be better if when someone send a Spanish message the receiver can be able to translate into the language she/he understand so as we can promote this messenger, 100% im with you.

Looks to me like the best attributes of 9.0 beta is how pretty it is. Ever notice that just because the cursor is blinking in the IM talk box doesn’t mean what you type goes in it. Just a little glitch. How about conference set-up in yahoo with Vista? Nope, no can do. Reading codes to get into rooms?…Just who are you trying to make this difficult for?
