Emoticon audibles

Ever wondered what the the devil’s laugh would sound like when you send the emoticon? Or wished that you could send a loud emoticon smooch over to your sweetie on Yahoo! Messenger?

Then you’re in luck! A few of our favorite emoticons have found a second career as audibles. Audibles are animated characters with sound that you can send to a friend while you IM. You’ll find eight emoticon audibles to choose from including the cowboy, happy face, the devil, and more.

To try out the new emoticon audibles, click the audibles icon (the one with the lips on it) above the text box in your IM window (Yahoo! Messenger 8.1 or 9.0 only). Click the More Audibles button on the right, then “See All Audibles”. Then select “Emoticons” from the list.

  4. Wow.. windows only of course, right? Why are there features for the Windows version that arent on the Mac version? Everyone knows by now that Macs are perfectly capable of doing the same things as Windows PCs are..

  5. Until now i was using the ones from International -> Chinese -> Taiwan .I dont’ understand what they are saying but they look great
    The new ones look cool. But i hope there will be more. My favorite is the “Angry” one.

    Follow these steps to access audibles from Yahoo! Messenger:

    When you’re in an IM conversation, click the audibles icon (the one with the lips on it) above the text box in your IM window (Yahoo! Messenger 8.1 or 9.0 only). Click the More Audibles button on the right, then “See All Audibles”. Then select “Emoticons” from the list.

  22. These audibles appear to be .swf files. Is there some way I can run them on my Mac? Is it Flash? What version of Flash would play them? Could it be dragged into a Web browser? I use Adium, which displays a link to the .swf file, but clicking it doesn’t run anything. How do I run the .swf file?

    The Mac version does not have audibles in it. Only versions 8.1 or 9.0 Beta for Windows has them. Thanks,

  30. Hi Mackie,

    To change your audibles back, just click on the audible icon in your IM window, and then select “More audibles” up in the top right portion of the audible screen. From here, you can select any of the other types of audibles you prefer, or, a different language (under the International folder).

  33. I AM VERY UPSET THAT YAHOO STILL DOES NOT HAVE AUDIBLES FOR MAC USERS ON MESSENGER. I HAVE A FRIEND WITH A STUPID MAC WHO I HAVE BUGGED FOR 2 YRS TO GET ON YAHOO AND CONVERSE LIVE WITH ME BECAUSE OF THE AUDIBLES AND SHE FINALLY INSTALLED IT. SO NOW I HAVE BEEN SENDING THEM TO HER, AND ONLY RECENTLY FOUND THAT SHE WAS NOT SEEING THEM, AND NOW COME TO FIND OUT SHE CANT SEE THEM IF YOU DONT HAVE THEM FOR MAC.

  37. All you people complaining about Macs, get over it. You knew from the beginning that you wouldn’t have the same things available on a Windows computer. Why opt for Mac in the first place? Not like they’re trying to be compatible with anybody. Mac sucks!

    You can check your Preferences to make sure Audibles sound is turned on. Go to the Messenger menu, choose Preferences, then select “Messages” on the left hand menu. You’ll see a check box on the right side that says “Always play audio when I send or receive audibles”. Make sure that box is checked.

    They should appear in your Audible menu. Click the Audible button, then click the “more Audibles” button, click “See All Audibles”, then click “Emoticons” in the list. Emoticon audibles are available in Yahoo! Messenger 8.1 and 9.0.

  46. AUDIBLES FOR MAC

    I saw a few posts above…. We need AUDIBLES for MAC. The Macs are getting popular, so it’s time that Yahoo takes a look at updating their Mac version.

    BTW: We use both Mac/Windows here at home, so we get to work with both versions. The Mac version is kinda sparse.

  55. hi, Sarah. i’ve tried installing both ym8 and ym9.0 the emoticons audibles didn’t show in both versions. all the other audibles are still available except for this one i wish yahoo would check and do something about it. maybe it got deleted in their database or something? thanks much.

  58. I am using Yahoo Messenger Version 8.1.0.421. I can not see the Halloween Audibles, Spanish Audibles, NBA Audibles, and all the other latest audibles. My PC was reformatted yesterday and the I used the same Yahoo Messenger version, but before my PC was reformatted, I could use the Halloween Audibles, German Audibles, Spanish Audibles, etc. My Audibles list was complete before the reformat, BUT NOW ONLY A FEW ARE LEFT!!!!!!! How can this happen when Im using the same version before and after the reformat of my PC??????

  65. Confirmed. I had and used EMOTICON AUDIBLE while in YM8 and disappeared after upgrading to YM9. Reinstalled YM8 but the EMOTICON AUDIBLE does not reinstall.

    I suppose it is no longer available and is not included in the downloading of the rest of YM.

I have the little smileys and the emoticons for my yahoo instant messenger but when ti comes to my yahoo 360 blog, only part of the smileys are there, How do I get the rest back?   76. i have two windows open chatting with different people and one window has all my audibles available, while the ones on the other window are grey and not available for use. sometimes there available and sometimes not is it something i did? anyone have the solution.

    What you describe is probably happening because one of the friends you’re talking to is on a different version of Yahoo! Messenger (e.g. Mac, Yahoo! Messenger for the Web, or the version in Mail) that can’t receive audibles. In that instance, we “gray out” the features that are unavailable.

  81. I had audibles but now they are gone. On my preferences all the boxes are checked so I can have emoticons,, audibles and imvironments but they are still grayed out.
    I have updated and signed out and restarted. Can you help?

  84. I can see the list of audibles wen i click “Audibles-> More Audibles” but nothing happens wen i select them. The default “Work” category shows up & works but I cant get access to the rest of the audibles

    i think there should be a way that we can d’load the audibles separately and plug-them-in the Messenger

    Even if you have the US version of Yahoo Messenger, but your current location is in Indonesia or anywhere else other than the US, you will not have those audibles.

  100. For some unknown reason the audibles are grey and I have no webcam. when checking the webcam with the on line checker I see my cam display and it works. http://help.yahoo.com/l/us/yahoo/messenger/messenger9/webcam/mstatestcamie.html
    that is problem #1.
    My audibles have gone grey and all the tricks, given by people who know it all don’t bring them back. pls dont insult my intelligence by providing the set up steps. I know them all. Please help me
