Business has been doing it for years and they dont always tell you they are recording because frankly they are not required to and lets face it recording conversations has such a bad feeling surrounding it that most people don’t want it done.

Personally I just use “Nero Wave Editor” and save the recorded file with the desired settings when I am done, but then again I am a techie type so it just seemed natural for me to use what I already had available on the system.

They record yahoo, aim and every other messenger. it’s also capable of recording not just calls but actual chatrooms as well. or text to speech like someone who may have speech problems but wishes to speak vs type, they can type stuff out and the software translates it to words and transmits for them.
