  2. Having posted a message voicing my displeasure about the lack of x64 support yesterday. I am happy to retract that post and and complement the release of the x64 version. It’s very cool and much appreciated!

    Thank you.

  11. Is it the operating system 64K bit that I’m looking for? If yes, mine is only 32K.
If this isn’t what I want to look at can you tell me where to find the “64K bit Vista info”?

    Thanks … jodi

  13. They made some improvements, but the improvement is stupid.

Indic support was ugly before. If you type any Indic language, it use to show “?????” but this one seems working, but it doesn’t render the characters properly.

It’s their UI problem, the UI is not using Unicode script processor. But if you use any 3rd party messenger client for Yahoo and type Indic, that works well. So they needs this improvement. Did anyone get the same Indic problem?

Quote from my friend’s reply: Even in earlier messenger, if you pasted indic code typed elsewhere, it would render it properly. The problem was typing in indic though I believe it supports euopean languages.

  14. I think the new messenger is totally inept. There is no way to call someone by hitting a button or even open up a “voice” line. The webcam capabilities, if they are here, cannot be found. Having multiple conversations existing in one box is really hazardous. There is no way I want to make a mistake and talk about someone to someone else and have the wrong window open! I really do NOT like this and will download the other one.

  17. The program is just great, and the users’ dream has finally come true. But I don’t want to just say good words, because I beleive a good friend mentions mistakes, too. Here are some bugs and problems I have found in the new messenger:

There is some problem with the “Main Menu”. When you open sub-menus, they disappear (close) only if you move on to other items of the same menu. For example, when you choose “Contact Details” from the “View” menu (group), and then you move to an item in the “Messenger” group without moving on another item in “View”, the submenu for “Contact Details” won’t disappear!

Another problem is in the skin selection palette. When you stop the cursor at certain places (for example, the brightest face of the wooden stick), the respective icon starts to come in-and-out for itself, making the window blink like hell! That’s a but funny, but a bug after all.

Slow graphics is another problem which still exists in the latest build. I have a Core2 duo 3.0 Ghz and run high-graphic 2008 games with no problem, and we know messenger is not more hardware-dependent that a realistic 3D world with lots of effects. I wonder if the thing is a bound framerate or a low performance.

And again, the vista borders make the look of the skins bad and worse than that, is the lack of the standard minimize/restore and maximize animations for the main window. There is only a contact-rearrange animation which is, like other animations, noticably slow.

  21. hi

I got here because of a problem I will describe below..
I have vista ultimate 64bit and the normal yahoo messenger. I installed windows vista around april this year when it got released and I need to mention that.. since then.. NOMATTER what I did on my pc.. it NEVER froze.. not ONCE. That is untill today.. when someone initiated an audio conference with me.. messenger crashed and vista .. froze.. I could still use CTRL+F to swich to another user but I had no other users that hat administrator rights so I could end the task from there using task manager wich did not respond from the main user account. I dont even want to tell you how many applications I hade open.. I’m a web developer and I lost alot of work because of this.. so my question is.. what THE FU*K IS WRONG WITH YAHOO MESSENGER and WHATS KEEPING YOU FROM RELEASING THE 64bit VERSION ???

    thank you

  25. I have a pc since 91 .. trust me I hardly ever complain about something.. but when a single app is freezing my system out of the hundreds I have installed… and causes the loss of several hours of work.. that makes me wanna think about taking legal action..

  26. THANKS!

    Comment by Ro — December 9, 2007 #

  27. @Jaxx : it is a preview version. Not alpha, beta, RC or final. You install this at your own risk. Of course it’s going to be unstable, buggy, resource heavy… but you don’t have to install it. If it’s making your machine go ga-ga then remove it.

  28. I cant seem to be able to install it on my 34-bit windows vista. is there any way out

    Comment by Steph — December 10, 2007 #

  29. people……..there is a much bigger problem……firstly the messenger does not tell who is online…….u have to scroll through the lists again and again to see the status of each member which reduces its functionality a bit……..also the messenger is unable to log in on my cell phone…….

  33. How do I get the 64bit version? I downloaded the one at the link mentioned but when I go to task manager it still says *32 meaning 32 bit. Or is this a 32 bit version that just happens to work on 64 bit? If that is the case, they all have so not sure what the purpose is.

  34. Hi!
I just managed to deal with gadget problem!
You have to turn on the UAC (user account control - control panel - users) in vista and the sidebar gadget will work just fine! enjoy it

    Comment by Incognito — December 10, 2007 #

  35. wait… you have to turn ON the UAC to get it to work? Why, exactly? I’m not switching UAC back on for anything. Especially not for a gadget, of all things. Lets hope the next version of the gadget doesn’t have this dependence, eh?

    Comment by Al Iguana — December 11, 2007 #

  36. aha… yeah, Incognitio is right.

That is because if you turn off UAC, or run Sidebar as administrator, the gadget can’t write to HKCU (current user) in the registry, and Yahoo.Gadget.js is trying to do just that. If UAC is off, you have to write interops to HKLM (local machine).

I’ll try modifying the gadget now and see if that works. If you don’t hear from me that means I’ve killed my PC

    Comment by Al Iguana — December 11, 2007 #

  37. Awesome, it works! Although if you start messenger from the gadget, all you get is a pane of glass lol. But if you start messenger from the Start Menu it works ok. Instructions posted in my blog.

    Comment by Al Iguana — December 11, 2007 #

  38. I just installed the update for vista sp1 and mess for vista works perfect…after all i can see that the performance part was from WPF from microdoft, not from Yahoo

    Comment by Incognito — December 12, 2007 #

  39. @Al Iguana
I think you misunderstood me.. when I said messenger froze my sistem I clearly stated that is was the “normal” yahoo messenger.. not this one.. It is true I have been using it for several months without issues but some idiot had to voice conference me and so my sistem froze.. So that is why I asked when the 64bit Vista version will be released because I knew its still beta.. meanwhile I installed it the other day and its working ok .. and the voice conference function is not even there so I dont have to worry about that happening again.. anyways.. good luck

  41. I installed this version however in task manager it shows *32, I understand this to mean its not native 64 bit application…. Can anyone clarify is this a 64 bit application or as previously asked a 32 bit application that can run on 64 bit vista?

    Comment by kiwintok — January 15, 2008 #

  42. so when is yahoo gonna release a beta vs. or a real vs. of this app. instead of all the bloatwhere and stupid add ons? I don’t recall Yahoo anoucing all of the extra crap where at last years ces show. Why don’t u put an effort into building a solid app. (fondation). Then build the bloatwhere/ useless aps. If you don’t have a good app what good is the bloatwhere/mindless add ons. Seems a little stupid to me. I guess that is why yahoo messenger blows so much

  43. Yahoo.Messenger.YmApp has stopped working A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available. WHATS THE DEAL????

  44. For those curious, this is the Vista 32-bit version patched to run on Vista x64. It is not a 64 bit app.

    Comment by stroths — June 28, 2008 #

  45. it doesn’t run on my Vista Ultimate x64 with SP1….even if I try the patch which i found on some site…dunno what site
I’m waiting for a stable version…hurry up guys

  46. Guys, I don’ t think this is a true 64bits application.

Vista x64 still show that yahoo IM is running on 32bits application.

  47. I am trying to download the windows vista version it doesn’t work on my windows vista 64 bit. I even turn off my firewall still doesn’t work.I think I will never have a yahoo messenger on my computer with my windows vista 64 bit, so I just use the webmessengeryahoo.com to chat and it work fine but less features is okay I don’t use other feature that has on yahoo messenger most the time important is I could chat.
