Not necessarily to see all the contacts on your buddy's list, but I CERTAINLY do think we all should have the right to have a way to find out whether or not our own name still remains on a person's buddy list or not for sure!

Well despite all the FOE comments here, what do we get?
The new Yahoo profile with visible connections etc.

Yahoo obviously hates it's own users.

To hell with them!

on one hand it sounds like a good idea but on the other hand sometimes you get people who are a bit crazy. I'd give it a 50% chance.

It is definitely foe.

I find it symptomatic of yahoo policy in recent years, that they'll rather work on implementing new features than fix the old ones.

First of all I don't see the use of this. You'll get a list of 1000+ random yahoo IDs and then what? Yahoo isn't Facebook. Most people who use yahoo messenger don't necessarily know their contacts in real life. They know them from chat rooms etc.

Secondly, most Yahoo IDs don't have anything to do with who people really are. How on earth should I be able to figure out if "eaglehawk2000" or some such yahoo ID on this hypothetical friends of friends list is someone I know or want to know?

Thirdly it is such a tool for spammers. I already get IM messages from spambots and I can only wonder how they are able to do that. But I can't imagine having this sort of transparency would be an improvement here.

And lastly: Of all the people I have on my friends list, only a handful are someone I know in real life (like I mentioned in the above). The rest are people I have gotten to know through chatting in chatrooms. And most of those people also use yahoo messenger to stay in touch with online friends they have met in chatrooms.

I can't help but wonder how Sarah Bacon on one hand can talk about how this feature would help making new friends, and at the same time in earlier blog posts admitting that Yahoo chat is a low low priority for Yahoo and practically abandoned and left to it's own devices (the result of this disastrous lack of maintenance being frustratingly evident if you try using a chatroom).

Yahoo chat is how many many messenger users got to know eachother, and now Yahoo is doing a good job of scaring everyone away because they don't see the "financial" or whatever benefit in keeping the chatrooms in working order.

If chatrooms aren't a priority for Yahoo it means that it's userbase isn't a priority for Yahoo. But that can hardly be a surprise anymore. The strategies and decisions of this company has done a lot to alienate it's userbase in the past years.

Talk about incompetent management!
