  1. I think this is great news. There are tons of people out there that have the skills necessary to make Yahoo! into something wonderful again.

  2. I think developers of YTK Pro (www.ytkpro.com) and YTunnel Pro (www.ytunnelpro.com) and chat client makers (www.ymlitechat.com , http://www.yahelite.org and http://www.yazakpro.com ) all are experienced coders, been with Yahoo! Chat since the beginning and are definitely up for it. All there programs are based on Yahoo! Chat. They definitely have the upper hand when it comes to understanding how different protocols of Yahoo! Chat work. If even one of these developers were a part of Yahoo! Messenger team we would really be having a great time in chat and not be bothered about spam.

As far as I know YTK Pro and Ymlite is made in Delphi, YTunnel Pro is in .NET, YahElite is in C language and Yazak is in Visual Basic. Yahoo! could test there softwares and see for themselves how good they are even in the worst conditions that are provided in Yahoo! chat see how they keep the chat spam free. If all of this was available in Yahoo! Messenger itself no one would have ever bothered to use a Chat Client other than Y! Messenger.

  3. I’ve worked in a corp environment before and know that Yahoo is having trouble filling these positions. I feel free to give Yahoo a lot of static because they are number 1, but the truth is that being number one means number two is always doing everything that can be done to take it away from you. It means I sympathize to a point, but also recognize that if Yahoo continues to operate as it has in the past, the only ones you will keep happy are the stockholders and even that will only last so long. Yahoo as it is now is an embarrassment. If the company had spent as much on fixing the problems it has had for a long time instead of buying up things like flickr (why do that when you have Y!Photos - to add a few users?) then would you be in the same situation?

    Probably not.

  4. it’s not so much a problem with skill as it is with Yahoo using it properly. It’s a known fact by any employee, current or ex that yahoo treats their employees pretty poorly, poor resources and consideration for improvement, prioritizing low cost over quality (developer suggests a fix that is beyond what they want to spend, they’d rather leave it broken). etc etc. I could go on but I think the point is pretty clear. Hire an artist then hand him spray paint. Sure spray paint is fast, but it’s also sloppy and hard to clean up after. Need to give that artist a canvas and a paint brush and let him paint a picture.

  5. Not a single interesting job. Only for nerds. That product manager one sounds good though. What is the minimum qualification required?

    Comment by user — July 4, 2007″

You might despise nerds, but we keep all that data you send on the internet secure from hackers, do our best to keep your connection from getting buffer overflows that MS refuses to patch, make your life more convenient, and fulfill your instant gratification “needs”.

    Don’t crap where you eat.

  7. I take it this means we won’t see the Vista version for a loooooong time then

    Comment by Al — July 5, 2007 #

  8. It’s funny how this “RegisteredTrademark” talks about been a nerd when all he is a lonely redneck who goes around yahoo! stalking people. You’re not a nerd or even a smart person RegisteredTrademark, you’re just a lonely old man in chat and yahoo! close chatrooms because of people like you.

The jobs on yahoo! are a sign of yahoo! restructuring it’s messenger/chat team and perhaps it’s about time.

Adam, as with any corporation these days they will go for the low cost effective course and yahoo! are not the only company that does it, perhaps 85% of companies do and will continue to do so in the forseen future.

What i would like to see is yahoo actually getting closer to their community as posting blogs to the world and expecting one lady (sarah) to answer them all the time is crazy and should set up a system where the messenger team can have a conference with some select few users or a meeting type gathering like MSN does on occasion with members of their community who publish applications for their messenger.

Yahoo! should add a job to the list …

Full Time Blog Administrator that can actually control it and be able to give a solid answer without feeling under pressure or just doesn’t know

    Comment by RegisteredDUMBmark — July 5, 2007 #

  9. Yeah, exactly. In other product blogs, the designers/programmers actually write updates, how the thing is coming along, what problems they’re having, nothing special just “heres how its going”.

With the Yahoo Messenger blog we get the occasional security update, stuff like “did you know you could use smileys in YIM!!” and other irrelevant fluff that just skirts the issues we all want to know : any ETA on the Vista Version? The Mac Version? When will chat work? etc. We aren’t idiots, so don’t dumb down please. Get someone who knows something to post like “yeah, we had a problem with our xx cluster last week and that caused”. Thats the sort of stuff your users want to know. Lets face it, we aren’t gibbons, so stop feeding us bananas, please.

    Comment by Al — July 5, 2007 #

  10. RegisteredDUMBmark - They could actually control the messenger blog when they release the new chat servers, Untill then its pointless for them to try.

    Comment by Chris — July 5, 2007 #

  11. Also I like sarah’s blogs.

    Comment by Chris — July 5, 2007 #

  12. Wow… took Yahoo! all this time to decide that they needed to hire more people? One would figure that their sever lack of progress was enough to tell them that. Still, better late than never, so I applaud Yahoo! for finally doing something to get their service in order.

    Comment by Janus — July 5, 2007 #

  13. Hey Sarah,

Looks like the votes are in… so how much LOOOOONNNNNGGGERRR do we have to wait for the next Mac beta? You have to be on the brink of a release.. Dont forget, Mac users are growing by the day, the numbers are increasing.. SOOO if lots of Mac users arent happy with your software, they wont use it, and they will choose other software that doesnt display the Yahoo ads.. therefore… No Mac version = less ad revenue for Yahoo…

I guess if yahoo wants to keep losing money, thats fine.. but I’m sure i speak for the whole Yahoo using Mac community when I say.. Just let us know!!

    Comment by Jeremy — July 5, 2007 #

  14. Yahoo has an obvious corporate policy not to give status updates to the public. Or pretty much anything detailed about maitenance. So no matter how much people complain or bitch (even flood 10000 messages) you wont get any info from them.

So Ill just post what my commentary and thoughts are:

With so many apparent senior positions relating to messenger now vacant it doesnt bode well for this or yahoo chat services at all. If they dont fill the spots than you can pretty much say goodbye to those services as their a drain on the bottom line and no one wants to do them at the high levels of yahell. They dont care about customers as chances are they can just replace them.

    Vista and mac clients

Mac: Chances are they have some kind of framework for mac out as seen by the poll they just cant get the “partner” yet for ads (like a previous poster said) and until they do I wouldn’t expect a mac client.

Vista is too heavy handed in security and probably blacklists yahoo messenger out of MS’s attempt at monopolizing things again as well as denying real kernal access to actually make YiM work right. Dont expect it anytime soon till that mess is cleared up.

Simple answers when voices are silenced….

    Comment by neo — July 6, 2007 #

  15. Well I guess this explains why a vista beta messenger was not released in the “2nd Quarter” as stated in January.

    How embarrassing for Yahoo!

    Comment by Scott — July 6, 2007 #

  16. This is the Administrator of BetaCorner. I would like to know if this is why the Beta has been delayed. If you have a reason please send me a message to my inbox thanks.

I am pretty sure there is somebody who is wise out there who does want a job for your company.

    Comment by BetaCorner — July 6, 2007 #

  17. The Vista IM client shouldn’t be touching the kernel at all. It should run fine in user mode and not ask for updates as often as it does now. I don’t understand why Yahoo Updater needs admin access to check for an update. It would make more sense to tell the user that “There is an update available. Do you want to install it now?” and display the shield by the “Yes” button. That would be properly UAC-ish.

    Just my two cents.

  18. The big Y! should hire torseq tech the programmers over at ytk because they need an outsiders point of view on where to go from here. Those guys seem to know what to do in practically any situation. Hire a team of real professionals who don’t mind cleaning up your mess. Just my 2 cents

    Comment by Ron Siebert — July 16, 2007 #

  19. no adam from ytk created booters and dished them out to the public.he is not to be hired.

    Comment by tom — July 22, 2007 #

  20. Tom they did no such thing so quit with the misinformation already you fool. Unlike you they’re respectable and treat their customers well from what I and others have seen and heard. They don’t sit around badmouthing people and focus on problem solving when Yahoo doesn’t have a grip yet. Their software speaks for itself, ’nuff said! A perfect example is how they put a complete end to voice lags. Yahoo avoided the issue for years and other programmers failed to come up with a solution but those guys not only stopped it completely but they did it in a way that nobody else had even considered. You might read what they say on their website forum and about their research and technology. If it weren’t for people like them you’d be sitting in chat crying when someone voice lagged your computer causing it to freeze up while your sound card settings get puked on. Don’t hate what you can’t understand or appreciate.
