Security update for Vista users
July 2, 2007 on 4:00 pm | In News | 23 Comments
Recently, we blogged about a security update for our Yahoo! Messenger for Windows (8.1) users. Due to restrictions with the Windows Vista operating system, we were unable to push the update out to our Vista users on Yahoo! Messenger 8.1.
We encourage all Yahoo! Messenger 8.1 users running Windows Vista to download and install this security patch, available at http://messenger.yahoo.com/updater.php.
The updater page also includes information on how to check your version of Yahoo! Messenger. If you’re on Yahoo! Messenger version 8.1.0.401 or higher, you don’t need to install this additional patch.
Thanks,
Sarah Bacon

Besides the security update can Yahoo! offer a patch for Voice Chat in Chatrooms and make it work in Windows Vista too? We the users of Vista feel left out as Yahoo! keeps neglecting this issue forever. If only you would provide such an update which could make it work again there wouldn’t be anymore complaints over it. Its even worse for us because if we don’t have voice chat we are forced to use text based chat wherein all the screen is filled with messages from Bots or Booters (trying to lag the room with random chat strings specially webdings). Please help us.

When will Vista users actualy get the new “Vista only” messenger? I can take a beta,ALPHA,or PRE ALPHA! Maybe if u get a public test on it,it will be released sooner!

Yeah, users were waiting for the new Vista messenger since January. It is past second quarter and no beta or a release date. Only that “it will be released in the coming months”.
At least they could have posted an explanation why they are still developing it.

I can’t get any version of 8.1 to work on Vista without crashing Firefox every time I go to Yahoo Mail. Forget hiring designers to make pretty skins for the Vista Messenger, can we just get one that WORKS first? Pleeeease?

Curious as to when your chat servers will work the right way. It takes forever to get into chat ot you get in and the window does not come up. When you are asked for answers, you give a round about answer. If you don’t know, then say so. Also, if your servers aren’t working then post something to let us know this on your webpage. Common sense goes a long way. Listen to your users and quit worrying about bing cheap and spend the money it takes to make it work right. Keep going and your users will go elsewhere. You will go out of business. BE SPECIFIC in your answers to our questions.

For the vista users out there that are STILL having “issues” with the voice on yahoo, here is a site that I installed, I know have “voice” in yahoo chat rooms and conferences.. Hope it works for you too! first off go to your control panel to the “uninstall” section aka add/remove programs, make sure yahoo messenger is in there, if it IS then run this site, if it’s not (and trust me, I’ve found out with vista that it DOESN’T have to be in your add/remove programs to be valid, just simply go and redownload it, no need to delete or uninstall the other one, then double check again to see if it’s in the add/remove programs, if so, load this site.. Keep it in a saved file in your mail (preferiably yahoo) cause sometimes you have to uninstall it and reinstall it..

no need to reboot yahoo nor your system after you install it, just go to a room or conference and WAH LAH you have voice on yahoo with VISTA!…

I was camming with a new friend on yahoo messenger recently. After about a minute I noticed that I was watching myself on my friends cam too. In other words with the two cams opened I could see myself on both cams….Can anyone figure that out?

Hi Denise,
Sorry to hear you’re having problems with 8.1 on Vista. I recommend trying Yahoo! Messenger for the Web which works with your web browser (no install required). Just go to http://web.im and sign in with your Yahoo! ID. Your friends list will appear there when you sign in.

Since I installed Vista, and upgraded Yahoo IM to 2.1.0.402, I cannot choose “appear offline to this contact”. It’s either online or offline permanently.
Can anyone help ??

Honestly I dont know what you vista people are complaining about OS X and Linux yahoo doesnt have voice chat never did, As for Yahoo!’s incompetence everyone knows they dont know what they are doing. This is an extremely irresponsible company with very poor business practices and customer support. but hey remember deep down YAHOO CHAT IS FREE! so get over it

Mine says that the tsp _ codec is already installed but i have no voice.
Comment by bluewolverine — July 20, 2007 #
i installed the tsp codec but it doesnt help with voice chat on yahoo messenger. if you download trillian you can get voice there though. trillian sucks but its better than not having any voice at all.
