We’re doing maintenance

June 27, 2007 on 6:17 pm | In News |

We will be doing some maintenance work tonight between 8pm and 12am midnight Pacific Time (timezone conversion tool).

This work is required to fix some issues that contributed to the service issues last night and this morning. During the maintenance period, you may experience some issues with signing in or with the online availability of some friends.

As an alternate, we recommend using Yahoo! Messenger for the Web if you experience problems during the maintenance period.

We apologize in advance for any inconvenience. Thanks for your patience,

Sarah Bacon
Product Manager

  5. Ms. Bacon, please, create some Vista gadget so we can all put Yahoo Messenger web in our dock. I will be with option to connect automatically at start-up and show who’s online. Your messenger web was the best development after Columbus discovered America. Light, no need of download, just click and use. Put it in the Vista sidebar as gadget and you will win market share for sure. Whan can I start using it…:-)

    We’re doing maintenance
    June 27, 2007 on 6:17 pm

For a global communications company, your communication skills to your customer base is sadly lacking.

I echo the comments above, “Messenger” was supposed to be fixed on the 15th May - whilst there was minor improvement, it still wasn’t fixed!

I know you’ll read this Ms. Bacon and think - “You have no ideas the problems we have here, stop whinging” - well - maybe if we did know the problems, we would be more understanding - Hell! someone might even offer some help, because its obvious the team you have in place are either overworked or simply not up to the job in hand.

    Comment by Dave — June 28, 2007 #

  7. I think its gone 4 weeks aswell now until yahoo say they was going to roll out the new chat. looks like the spam will remain. If i was the project owner things would be cleared up now and i would see complaints about Yahoo Messenger on this blog i would just see good things about it.

    Comment by vb_packets — June 28, 2007 #

  8. We can still see bots, chatrooms remain locked for hours because some kids want to play tough and think ‘they own yahoo’ so they bring bots to chatroom and lock it so that no one else can enter. Mass iggy users can still dominate voice chat in chatrooms using Socks Proxy and hundreds and hundreds of bots.

One would think Yahoo must have heard the plight of its users and finally doing the much hyped chat server upgrades but after reading the blog turns out Yahoo just created more problems rather than solve one. That just says it all.

  9. ”During the maintenance period, you may experience some issues with signing in or with the online availability of some friends.”
UMMM you mean like normal then? why dont you go into chat that is if you can get in with the ammount of packets yahoo drops and see what a joke your chat is me im done with chat sick of the spam and kids on there power trips with there booters, room lockers etc you should not say things you are not going to do LOL the chat room joining issue is STILL THERE it has been for months it was fixed but then returned how does it feel yahoo to have your service used as a meca for webmasters to spam pull your fingers out your asses and patch the old logins this will help stop booting for a while since your encription of the ymsgr login is so WEAK it will be broken in 24-48 hours :l good god who hires the chimps who maintain chat because they clearly are not doing there jobs chat is a shambles a joke a place where a 13 year old can lock a room for hours lmao i hope gtalk rolls out a chat service one day then im DONE with yahell!!!

  14. VaaSU, they responded. They said they would fix their problems, they said we will have another Mac beta, they said we will get a beta of Vista Messenger in * the coming months *.

Well, to summarize: Yahoo!: “we will…”.

Maybe they want to tell us to move to other IM services?

  16. You say that the current version of ym works on Vista, but that’s not true. It work on Vista, but I keep having problems with the games button and the audibles. I can’t use any of these two features. This is not happening just to me. I tried everything that crossed my mind and nothing works.
Guess you guys didn’t make 8.1 fully working on Vista.

    Comment by Alex Trusk — June 28, 2007 #

  17. Looks like yahoo doesen’t work at all for 2 days…still maintenance….lucky we have webmess…

    Comment by Corpel — June 28, 2007 #

I’m saying this because i didn’t here anything about yahoo mess for Vista from January…no news…no release date…nothing…good job guys sorry for my bad english

    Comment by Corpel — June 28, 2007 #

  19. Gee if only the damn thing would quit dumping me and then starting multiple instances of messenger every time it relogs on, I’d be happy. But 8.1 appears to suck.

    Comment by Starrlight — June 28, 2007 #

  20. i think booting in yahoo is over lol……massive amount of packets could not be sent….good job yahoo well done….this is just the start right? i always knew u guys will come up of something…..next stop mass iggy!!!! show em yahoo team whos the boss!!!!!!=)) i’ll stop using 3rd party client and go back using yahoo messenger!!!!!

    Comment by John — June 29, 2007 #

  23. chris_holl_mi, Go to freecreed.com, you can find and download older versions of messenger from there.

    Comment by Gary — June 30, 2007 #

  24. Hmmm Here it is the 1st of July and the rooms are still LOCKED… I run vista and thank god i’m smart enough to know how to use “google” and fix my voice problem.. I’ve been “waiting” sence January for this new Messenger for Vista and hmmm 7 months later, still nothing.. I’ve been spontainiously booted/disconnected from yahoo messenger, locked out of rooms, kicked off voice in conferences. to fix that voice problem with Vista, use this site and follow the onscreen directions, it seems to work for me… Good Luck!
    http://www.yazakpro.com/chatstuff/yahoo/vistayahoovoicefix.html
With Vista I found that if you look in your “uninstall programs” you’ll find most times that your Yahoo! Messenger ISN’T in there, BEFORE you click that link or use it, make sure your Yahoo! Messenger IS IN your “uninstall programs”, if it’s not just go to http://www.messenger.yahoo.com and redownload 8.1, no need to delete anything with/to do with Yahoo! Messenger, there is no rebooting or restarting your system nor Yahoo! Messenger to use this feature. it also puts it right in your “uninstall programs” as TSP_CODEC so it’s not hard to find. Good and Luck and hope it works for you “Vista” users.. I know it DID for me…. and after 7 months of NOT having voice in Yahoo! Messenger Chat/Conferences, it was sure NICE to hear my friends voices after 7 months… TC…

  25. heidi……read ur comments……..should i install the updated version of windows messenger, then install the voice fix?……..i have uninstalled version 8.1 as i was unable to get into any chatrooms. the only thing that i could do was im chat with someone, and even then the voice wouldnt work

  27. Yahoo is becoming synonymous with bad and incompetent service. Honesty regarding things happening on the network would go a long way to boost your credibility Sarah, but you and/or Yahoo seem to be unwilling to be forthright with your customers and shareowners. Perhaps when google takes the rest of search and PalTalk or MSN take chat someone will wake up and smell the coffee there. In the mean time, I am looking to dump my shares of this company.

    Comment by lm — July 2, 2007 #

  29. yea, that was june this is july so why cant we log into chat look i know we dont pay for this but hey dont you have a help desk that monitors chat…… and while im at it whats up with your programmers…. lazy or just dont care and bout all the adult porn and booters if yahoo is so hard up for money it has to rely on porn reopen the private room and take um there i for one do not want my child to see porn in a PUBLIC ACCESSABLE ROOM and why cant u post the ip of the person who boots ya since u log ip then put um to good use

    Comment by ibgrinchiest — July 5, 2007 #

  30. seriously now, what’s up with the rooms? they have been messing up for days now and the troubles we’re all experiencing with those porn bots, room jam bots, booters, nazies etc, are still going on at full speed.
you guys advertise that you have the IP addresses, so what’s the problem with banning the addresses and the ID of the botters? if you want IDs of nazi botters and nazi booters i have plenty of them. you can find them in masses lurking in the jewish rooms trying to piss off people who come to have a normal chat.

    Comment by justanotherone — July 5, 2007 #

  31. Yeah your chat rooms are serosly messed up. They nmeed to be gutted and start from scratch. Perhaps do what paltalk does and alow members to create their own rooms and THEY have control over what goes on. Plus, they can bouce people from the room for like 24 hours or for good even. Eirther that, or have intergration with Yahopo groups and yahoo 360. but eirtherway the chat rooms NEED to be montered,

  33. Yahoo is probably the most pathetic product available in any product category. I think a group of 7th graders can do better than your programmers. Dont act like its a new problem and cover it up by saying youre doing maintenance. Does anyone in your company have any pride at all? Is the CEO making tons of money and laughing all the way to the bank? Shareholders, dump your stock. What are they doing with your money. and how long will you have it before it goes belly up? Now that ATT Yahoo has conned Apple into being the soul service provider for the IPhone, its just a matter of time before it folds. Yahoo is in over its head and doesnt seem to have a single compentant person on is staff, no management abilities, and is far behind any other service provider on the web. Yahoo employees, dont you feel the least bit humiliated that you cant find a better company to work for?

  34. I wish Sarah would post and let us know if this maintenance will be done before August.. :rolling eyes:

  35. Generally i like things that suck…but NOT yahoo. The chat rooms have been inaccessible since July 2nd and continue to be that way to date. I pay for extra storage on my e-mail acct. and am more than willing to pay a “nominal” fee to chat with my friends in the rooms……fix the damm problem or you’re going to see a mass migration to other chat room sites thus costing you the money you receive from your advertising sponsors! I know this comment is friutless and expect no response form yahoo but it had to be said!

  41. We have been experiencing issues with the servers for several weeks now, more so than ever, and no notice is given to us about these ” brownouts” or whatever you may call them.. Our names stay stuck in the room, long after we close our Messenger and even turn off the computer. Rooms think they are full. Waiting to login to chat.. rooms that are ” empty” even won’t gain us entry. Why not shut it Down totally for a few days, and install those new servers? Why not send out some mass information to let us know what is going on? I love chatting on messenger, but, this is getting old and its getting there fast.

    Comment by Valerie — July 9, 2007 #

  42. This is nothing new to me, I have been having problems getting into the chat rooms for nearly a year now. It takes several attempts to get in…it’s so frustrating and ridiculous that I have stopped bothering. It would be nice to have the option though to go in and chat with some of the people I know in my regular room that I don’t have added to my buddy list. It’s really sad, any other company doing such a poor job of maintaining their product would have gone belly up ages ago. What exactly are all of these “techs” doing anyway during these so called “maintenance” periods? Picking their noses and looking at porn? Of course, what else could we possibly expect from a company that continues to create “upgraded” versions that are consistently worse than their predecessors and include so many useless features as opposed to being progressive like their competition.

  43. ya know it would be nice if yahell would get it together and fix all the problem with the chat rooms and the people search I’v been tring to find co workers that I worked with all I get is a big fat zero on all my searchs FIX THE PROBLEM!

    Comment by Loraine — July 19, 2007 #

  45. I can’t get into any chat rooms anymore. Yahoo messenger always times out after a few minutes saying “Signing into chat took longer than expected”. What a dumb message - telling me something I already know without any real explanation. I can only assume Yahoo are deliberately doing nothing to fix their service. For what reason it’s hard to fathom.

    Comment by tanya — July 21, 2007 #

  46. This probably has nothing to do with any Yahoo Messenger issues but since I can’t get any help elsewhere, I just happened to stumble across this. I am having trouble with another Yahoo Product (specifically the 360 access) and I’ve already spoken to more than my fair share of Customer Support reps (most recently this morning). Perhaps y’all can get me some better help???? I reallly need it. here’s the trouble I’ve been having for the past week….and a revised version of the of Help Requests I have sent to a plethora of Verizon/Yahoo Customer Care reps on line (minus the personal info)

“THIS IS REGARDING MY YAHOO 360 BEING DELETED AND MY BEING DENIED ACCESS TO ANY YAHOO 360 ACCOUNT ACTIVITY.
I ALREADY HAVE AN EXISTING ACCOUNT WITH VERIZON/YAHOO. I LOST INTERNET ACCESS ABOUT A WEEK AND A HALF AGO [ACCORDING TO VERIZON, FOR ‘NON-PAYMENT’], I HAVE PAID OFF ALL MY VARIZON/YAHOO BILLS.

I AM NOW ABLE TO GET BACK ON LINE UNDER MY EXISTING ACCOUNT (I STILL HAVE ALL MY EMAIL, INSTANT MESSENGER AND EVERYTHING ELSE ON THE INTERNET), BUT I CAN’T GET ACCESS TO THE YAHOO 360. I HAVE HAD THAT ACCOUNT FOR OVER A YEAR AND NEVER BEEN DELETED, NOR HAVE I EVER BEEN DENIED ACCESS TO ANY 360 ACTIVITY. NOW I CANNOT EVEN GET TO THE YAHOO 360 HOME PAGE TO CREATE A NEW PAGE. MY OLD 360 SCREEN NAME WAS {edited}. FURTHERMORE, I HAVE NOT RECEIVED ANY NOTICE FROM YAHOO OR VERIZON STATING WHY I WAS DELETED.

MY 360 PAGE IS NOT SEXUALLY EXPLICIT, GRAPHIC, VULGAR, THREATENING, OR IN ANY WAY DOES IT VIOLATE ANY OF THE YAHOO 360 ‘POLICY’ (UNLIKE SOME OF THE OTHERS I HAVE SEEN).

HERE IS THE ERROR MESSAGE I GET WHEN I TRY TO ACCESS: MY 360, MY FRIENDS 360′S, AND THE YAHOO 360 HOME PAGE:

“…Sorry, the page you requested was not found.
Please check the URL for proper spelling and capitalization. If you’re having trouble locating a destination on Yahoo!, try visiting the Yahoo! home page or look through a list of Yahoo!’s online services. Also, you may find what you’re looking for if you try searching below…”

(BEEN THERE, DONE THAT…FOR OVER A WEEK NOW). PLEASE DO NOT SEND ME ANY LINKS THAT DON’T HELP ME GET THE ACCESS THAT I AM PAYING FOR.

THE ONLY REASON I FOUND OUT I GOT DELETED, WAS SOME OF MY 360 FRIENDS CALLED ME AT HOME (YES, MY HOUSE) TO ASK WHERE MY PAGE WAS AND THEY MENTIONED THAT I’D BEEN DELETED.

NOW, SINCE LAST THURSDAY OR SO, I HAVE BEEN CALLING VERIZON, AND SENDING YAHOO VARIOUS FEEDBACK FORMS, TRYING TO RE-ESTABLISH MY 360 VIA CREATING A NEW ACCOUNT (AND GETTING NOWHERE), AND BASICALLY ALL I AM GETTING FROM THE VARIOUS ‘CUSTOMER SERVICE’ DEPARTMENTS [ASIDE FROM THE USUAL RUNAROUND] IS A BUNCH OF TOTALLY WORTHLESS LINKS THAT ARE OF ABSOLUTELY NO USE TO ME, NOR DO THEY ANSWER MY QUESTIONS, NOR DO THESE LINKS GET MY 360 ACCESS BACK.

I WAS REFERRED TO THIS SPECIFIC EMAIL ADDRESS BY A YAHOO CUSTOMER SERVICE REP NAMED ‘CHESTER’ WHO WASN’T MUCH HELP EITHER. IN FACT I WAS A BIT DISAPPOINTED THAT HE GAVE ME YET ANOTHER FEEDBACK LINK. I AM GETTING A LITTLE FRUSTRATED WITH THE ‘LINKS’ AND THE USUAL ‘RUNAROUND’.

    MY QUESTIONS ARE:

    A) WHY DID MY YAHOO 360 GET DELETED IN THE FIRST PLACE??? THERE’S NOTHING SEXUALLY EXPLICIT OR THREATENING ON MY PAGE (THO I RECENTLY DID TRY TO REPORT A 360 STALKER/PREDATOR WHOSE PAGE IS KNOWN TO BE SEXUALLY EXPLICIT)…FUNNY HOW SHORTLY AFTER I DID THAT, MY PAGE SUDDENLY GOT DELETED AND I CANNOT ACCESS ANYTHING 360; NOT EVEN THE 360 HOME PAGE, NOR MY FRIENDS’ PAGES.

    B) IF I CAN STILL SIGN IN/LOG INTO THE INTERNET UNDER MY EXISTING ACCOUNT, WHERE’S MY 360????? THAT’S THE ONLY THING I CANNOT DO, AND I HAVE TRIED EVERY SINGLE VENUE AVAILABLE (ALL THE FEEDBACK FORMS, ATTEMPTING TO CREATE A NEW ACCOUNT UNDER A NEW YAHOO ID, MADE SOME PHONE CALLS)…AND FAILED

    C) IF I AM PAYING LOTS OF MONEY FOR INTERNET ACCESS, WHY IS IT THAT EVERYTHING ELSE WORKS BUT MY 360 OR GETTING TO THE 360 HOME PAGE TO MAKE A NEW ACCOUNT? I EVEN HAVE ALL MY INSTANT MESSENGER CONTACTS THAT WERE ON MY LIST BEFORE VERIZON CUT ME OFF.

    D) MAY I PLEASE HAVE THAT ACCESS TO THE 360 HOME PAGE SO THAT I MAY RE-ESTABLISH MY 360? OR CAN YOU PLEASE PUT MY PAGE BACK UP IN IT’S ENTIRETY? I HAVE A LOT OF ORIGINAL POETRY ON THAT PAGE THAT I WOULD LIKE THE WORLD TO SEE. AGAIN THE SCREEN NAME IS {edited}

    D) WHAT DO I NEED TO DO TO GET MY ACCESS TO ALL THINGS YAHOO 360? I HAVE DONE EVERYTHING AVAILAVLE AND PAID MY BILLS.

I HAVE A FUNNY SUSPICION THAT THE PERSON I RECENTLY TRIED TO REPORT MAY HAVE HAD SOMETHING TO DO WITH GETTING MY PAGE DELETED/ACCESS DENIED, BUT THERE WAS NO REASON FOR THIS TO HAPPEN, AS MY PAGE IS/WAS A FLUFFY LITTLE KITTEN COMPARED TO HIS 360. I’D HATE TO THINK THAT VERIZON/YAHOO WILL PERMIT A ‘DOUBLE’ STANDARD’ FOR SOME BUT NOT OTHERS IN WHAT THE 360 CONTENT DISPLAYS ON SOME PAGES.

I HAVE BEEN TRYING FOR OVER A WEEK NOW TO GET MY 360 BACK AND NOBODY SEEMS TO HAVE A CLUE. AGAIN, THE FEEDBACK LINKS I’VE BEEN TRYING TO USE ARE GETTING ME NOWHERE, THEY ARE COMPLETELY WORTHLESS, AND THEY DON’T HELP AT ALL. IT IS REALLY FRUSTRATING TO HAVE A CUSTOMER SERVICE REP DEFERR ME TO THIS ONE, AND HE TOLD ME IT WOULD BE 12-48 BUSINESS HOURS TO EVEN EXPECT A REPLY FROM YOU, MUCH LESS GET MY 360 ACCESS (OR MY PAGE BACK).

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE, FROM THE BOTTOM OF MY HEART, WILL SOMEBODY GIVE ME MY PAGE BACK, IN IT’S ENTIRETY OR AT LEAST GIVE ME ACCESS TO THE YAHOO 360 HOME PAGE SO I CAN MAKE A NEW ONE? I DIDN’T DO ANYTHING WRONG HERE, AND FOR THE MOST PART, I HAVE REALLY ENJOYED THE YAHOO EXTRAS AND SERVICES FOR THE PAST YEAR. I WOULD VERY MUCH LIKE TO CONTINUE ENJOYING THE YAHOO PRODUCTS, EXTRAS AND SERVICES, BUT I CANNOT DO THIS RIGHT NOW SINCE ACCESS TO MY 360/AND THE 360 HOME PAGE IS GONE…NOT REAL SURE HOW OR WHY BUT IT IS AND I’D LOVE TO GET THAT BACK. PRETTY PLEASE???

THANKS FOR A SUPERB SERVICE THUS FAR
    THANKS IN ADVANCE”

Anyhow, I know this is off topic, but I am wondering if anyone here can help me? I realize this isn’t quite a Messenger or Maintenence issue, but this is about my only option left since it seems as though I have exhausted all the other options.
