“You oughta be in pictures”

Some team members spotted Yahoo! Messenger in a couple of movies.
In the trailer for this summer’s “1408”, coming out June 22, John Cusack ’s character turns to Yahoo! Messenger for help with getting out of a harrowing hotel room (good luck with that!)…
And in “Epic Movie” from earlier this year (a parody that spoofs recent blockbusters), the Mac version makes an appearance:
Keep your eyes peeled in theaters this summer and let us know if you run into Yahoo! Messenger at the movies.

Again Yahoo! sees fit to grace us with things that most Y!IM users couldn’t care less about. Just remember this Sarah, posting meaningless things like this will NOT take the users attention off of the fustration they feel regarding your increasingly-deteriorating program and the chat rooms.

In the film, do they find friends they don’t have appearing as online / offline throughout?
Do they get porn bots spamming them with Personal Messages?
Does it randomly disconnect?
If not, I don’t think it’s Yahoo! Messenger.

Oooh… I think that’s the UK version of Yahoo! Messenger 7.0?
IIRC, the UK versions don’t have chat in them, and I see everything from 7 execpt the chat button. Some parts of the UI look like they’ve been faked/edited, but there’s no question that it’s Yahoo Messenger.

I MAKE FONT FOR MORE BIGGER LIKE MOVIE I WANT TO BE STAR MOVIE TOO
Comment by Lance — June 23, 2007 #
In the movie, do they have to call customer support and end up talking to “Ray” in India and his unintelligble questions and answers?
In the movie, do they report adult content outside the adult wall, get your canned form-letter reply email, and see the next day that there is no longer an adult wall?
In the movie, does that godforsaken autoupdater take out their favorite feature, just when they NEEDED it?
In the movie, does Y!M request server rights from their firewall and then they get UDP flooded?
If not, it probably isn’t Yahoo! Messenger.

What I really want to know is -
In the movie, do they figure out that you’ve stopped banning usernames to inflate your userbase for advertising revenue?
If not, then I don’t think it is Yahoo! Messenger.

Just about a week to go before June ends, still no signs of new chat servers or new login scheme which blocks all the booters and Chatroom Bot Fillers.
If yahoo doesn’t do anything this month it speaks volumes for how professional they are in their work specially when a Yahoo! Vice President has made a promise to do changes on Yahoo! Chat in this month.
This is ridiculous. I don’t understand why they can’t come up with a way to limit the number of connections allowed per IP address to Yahoo! servers. Right now if someone wants they can login more than 200 Yahoo! ids into different chatrooms from the same ip address and no ID will be banned by Yahoo! for doing so, thats how these booters and room fillers are able to take advantage of the flaws in Yahoo! servers. If they fix this it will solve most of our problems related to chat. Then they can deal with Porn Bots and other stuff by introducing new login routines which cannot be decrypted by anyone.
I hope yahoo do take these suggestions seriously, its only for the betterment of your own chat services.

In the film, do they scream “This program is bloatware!” and switch to something different?
If not, then I don’t think it was Yahoo Messenger.

Yahoo is featured in a book/movie/testimonial that has yet to be discovered. Solve the mystery and know the futre of mankind. What happens after Hell freezes over.? I’ve got most of the answers to most of your questions. email ME

Wouldn’t it be lovely if we could see who’s messenger list we were on? Geez, one might even call that a safety issue from a stalking standpoint, hello! With all these useless bells and whistles, how about adding something useful and productive, please? TY*
Comment by Gypsy — June 24, 2007 #
Gypsy, they removed that webpage about a year ago over “privacy concerns” but agree and I think the question needs to ask - the privacy of whom is yahoo concerned about?
Comment by RegisteredTrademark — June 24, 2007 #
And indeed I was right. Yahoo!’s faulty program and services appearing in some movies DIDN’T distract their users from the problems with Yahoo! IM and the chat rooms. I must have some kind of powers that lets me see into the future!
… Oh wait, that was just common sense.

Hello? Has anyone ever heard of “Product Placement” in movies? Yahoo likely PAID to have Yahoo Messenger prominently displayed in those movies. No product or brand ever appears in a movie anymore without paying the movie studio. Not unlike movie characters sipping cokes or driving Humvees.
Comment by Robin — June 25, 2007 #
That is an ancient version of Messenger – at least 2 years old. It’s a shame they don’t use a newer one. But maybe they didn’t want a big banner ad cluttering up the visuals
Comment by DaveC — June 25, 2007 #
THIS IS REPETITIVE BUT SINCE WE ARE IN THE SUBJECT OF MESSENGERS A GOOD THING TO PRACTICE IN FUTURE IS TO HAVE THE MESSENGER ALREADY TO GO BEFORE YOU START TELLING US IS COMING SOON!
SECOND U GUYS CLAIM THE CURRENT VERSION IS COMPATIBLE WITH VISTA… PACK OF LIES! OUT SIDE OF THE RADIO NONE OF THE PLUG INS WORK AND SOMETIMES THE RADIO DOES NOT WORK EITHER.
THERE IS JUST THE SHORT LIST ON A LONG LIST OF THINGS THAT DON’T WORK FOR VISTA ULTIMATE AND SAVE THE RE-INSTALLATION SPEECH CUZ I HAVE RE-INSTALLED EVEN ON CLEAN HARD-DRIVES AND STILL THE SAME WORK-LESS MESSENGER
SO AGAIN
THROW US A BONE HERE. GIVE US A DATE! COMING SOON IS NOT CUTTING IT ANYMORE.
MAYBE WE SHOULD JUST SWITCH TO GOOGLE TALK LIVE!
ANY TAKERS?
Comment by CC — June 25, 2007 #
Yeah i agree.. I just dont think yahoo cares any more.. maybe ill start my own chat room site… hmmm…
Or maybe, we could ask google real nice to build us one.. they should have us a beta in say, 1-2 weeks!
Seriously yahoo, how long can one single program stay in beta? give us what you have! I want my chatrooms on my Mac and IM TIRED OF WAITING FOR IT!!!

Now, now, now fellas! Give Yahoo a small break. They said by the end of the 2nd quarter. The 2nd quarter doesn’t end until June 30th at midnight. That’s when the coach turns into a pumpkin or should I say, the PC turns into a lemon (”Vistarella”….coming to a theatre near you…).
Comment by Robin — June 26, 2007 #
Robin,
The reason why many won’t give Yahoo! a “small break” is because for months they’ve made promises to correct problems, or to release a new version of Yahoo! IM for other OSes, and they have pretty much FAILED to live up to their word at every turn. And if Yahoo! fails to fix the chat rooms be the end of the month, you know there will be Hell to pay. I guarentee you that many users will go beserk on Yahoo!, if not leave them for more reliable services.
