Upcoming maintenance

During a couple of nights next week, we’ll be performing routine server maintenance. During this time, some Yahoo! Messenger features may be temporarily unavailable and the service may seem a little slow. Planned maintenance times are:

Monday, May 21 at 7pm Pacific time
Tuesday, May 22 at 7pm Pacific time

Free time zone converter

We expect the maintenance to last about 6 hours each night. We appreciate your patience and apologize for any inconvenience.

  3. I’m glad to know that you are now giving feedbacks to your subscribers whenever you will be having a maintenance check.
    Why is it that it takes 6 hours to have that maintenance?
    Is YM be available on that time?
    What will be the effect of your 2 days maintenance check to your services?

  5. Yes, Yahoo! Messenger will be available during this time however you may experience some slowness and periodic login issues. Or you may not be affected at all, but we wanted to let everyone know just in case.

  6. Yahoo reported it was going unlimited email storage this month (back in Feb.) When will this take effect? Hotmail is up to 2 Gigs.

  9. Yeah, I hope with this maintenance, I will no longer experience the hard times logging in to yahoo messenger. For the past two weeks, it’s very difficult to log-in to YM based on my experience.

  21. When will Yahoo messenger support Linux? Skype works flawlessly in Linux. Yahoo is excellent but Linux users cannot enjoy all its features.

  26. I have been using yahoo messenger for almost 8 yrs. I sure hope you aren’t messing with it to mess it up more as has happen the last 100 times or more there has ever been maintenance or upgrades done to the messenger. Back when we had to use the web base chat rooms to chat we at least could chat. Now that everythings run in messenger half the time nothing works.

  27. Go ahead and do the server maintaince. I hope it wouldn’t take more that stipulated time, because I can’t do without Yahoo for an hour.
    The only shortcoming I’ve noticed about Yahoo Messenger is: it time out unnecessarily often. As soon as there is a little time out on my network, Yahoo Messenger will sign out immediately even in the middle of a conversation. Other messenger will still be on and strong. It cannot sustain network.
    I will appreciate it greatly if the server maintaince would influence this deficiency.

Try and see if you can see to the problem of being booted (Yahoo! messenger disconnects frequently even when you’re not idle).

  36. What about East European users? 7pm Pacific Time means 5 am East Europe Time (GMT + 02:00) if my math is correct. Add another 6 hours and you’ll get 11 am on Monday morning. Same goes for Tuesday. Anyway, great services Yahoo, keep ‘em coming.

  41. I understand there is need for yahoo on occassion . I know I’ve been having troubles the last few weeks with yahoo!!!!!!!!!! I can check emails chat with friends in IM but I havent been able to enter a room. I hope this is part of the trouble & the reason for maintainence. I miss my chat room experiences.   45. I’m having regular problems logging in to both YM and my mail account. Often, I cannot even get the log-in window, I just get IE messages saying it can’t find the site. And, for some odd reason, Yahoo is not providing an easy-to-find address for reporting such problems.

    If your popularity is sagging, both as a site and as a stock, you need look no further than a relative impossibility to actually use the site’s features as a reason. Frankly, I’m getting to the point of switching everything (messenger and mail) to MSN.

  51. I love Yahoo that it is free. I have had it for many years. The one thing I do miss a lot are the old chat rooms I want the old chat rooms back. The ones that had no bots and you chatted with real people. Also you didn’t get booted out of chat rooms. I really miss the old chat rooms. I had fun chatting and getting to know people. I hardly go in chat rooms anymore because it is all x rated stuff. I also think x rated screen names should not be allowed. I have no idea if there is a way to stop the bots and still have yahoo free. I just think it is sad how some people have to ruin something that was nice and free

  64. i had problems getting in to my mail it wasnt taken my password. Then the yahoo helper had me do several things to my computor.Well ps i had to unistall yahoo tried a differant version unistalled that and for some reason it is now telling me to enter my microsoft key code when i go from a web page to write mail. Also i dont have all the chat rooms lists. Help!!! please!! ty

  78. First Off, I would like to say Thank-You for providing the Free services to Everyone.It is Wonderful to be able to be in contact with Family and Friends Near and Far.
    Thank-You for giving us a Notice on doing this as lots of us have problems with yahoo and we would worry about something being Wrong with our computers again.
    I have problems with my e-mail timing out when I have only been on a few mins.I also can NOT Respond to messages that are left in my 360 mailbox.
    It would be Nice if the Nasty Bots could be Removed from Yahoo Chat. And that messages would NOT just pop up all over the screens.Also is there a way to get more chatrooms from yahoo?
    Please Try to keep the games in Yahoo.
    It would also be Nice that if someone is Invisable,and goes Offline, that other people could NOT see it when they go offline.That tends to cause alot of problems.Sometimes one goes Invisable so maybe someone they Don’t wanna talk with at that time can’t see them online,But when they do and they go offline, that person can still see them show going offline.
    Please, Please make the Yahoo Personals where you can e-mail Free,atleast for a month or two.Let the people Try it out for a month or two,and see if they like it.Please.Even the ones of us who have had it for awhile.There are alot of us who can NOT become paying members,so Please atleast give Everyone that chance.
    Sometimes, the Yahoo Environments make the screen freeze,and then can’t chat unless disconnect from friend and reopen.Also sometimes the cam will work sometimes it won’t work.
    Please Keep up the Good work.

  80. I do hope your “maintenance” will solve the ongoing problem Yahoo seems to have in suddenly cutting out/disconnecting, particularly annoying when in the middle of a convo or scrabble. We really love the games and its really annoying when this happens.

  83. I have had problems with my messinger. someone sent a web address to my messinger and now my messinger sends the web address to all the people in my list i would like to know how to fix this so it wont do it anymore the web address goes to adult friend finder.

  89. Yahoo is really doing a wonderful job and I must say it’s been worthwhile as people are able to contact, talk to and see family and friends all over the world in just small box.

  95. When the maintenence is being done in the night, does the messenger need to be on as I shut my off at night? I love yahoo and like some of the other comments it does time out too quickly. I still love the free service it is wonderful. I also enjoy the yahoo games as I play them all the time.

  109. Woo maintenance, Hope it will take not too long time. I need messenger to keep it up with my relatives either personal and business relatives. Overall your services is excellent. But the only shortcomings is BOTS… there are useful bots.. who just react when the user input it. but there are many spam bot.. If you want to destroy bots then destroy the spam bots, not the useful bot.. thankyou

  112. I hope you guys are reintroducing the window to window voice feature. I have several friends who are stationed abroad that I chat with.

    Unfortunately they do not have the abillity to talk on their cells because of their location.

    Also the cam feature needs to be dealt with. I was up an running on my cam, but no pic on the other end.

    Thanks for givin us a headsup though. So much better than AIM does. they just dump you at their scheduled time with no “oops we’re sorry” message or warnings ahead of time.

Someone there has to take care of this problem otherwise it will become difficult for users to engage in healthy chat with the bots continuously posting links to adult sites all the time.

    It drives me crazy when I hear that swissh noise …I don’t know someone has written to me in messenger unlist I see a flash and sometimes I am not at my computer even though it says I am “available”…a ring or a chime or something would be nice besides the flashing indicator…thanks

    I perfer yahoo because at least when folks send stuff I get the complete document not just the html…I also like your stealth feature it is great that you can let who you want see you on if you want and remain invisible…

    I also like the ignore button on the messenger sometimes folks(I don’t know how they do it) contact me that I don’t know it is great being able to hit that ignore button that report them as spam so that they cannot contact you again…keep up the good work…oh and I LOVE the phone and photo sharing features…I see the others isop have follow your lead keep up the good work…can you fix your streamer in ask yahoo…the narrator is grainy in viewing….

It might be something to think about and check out….upgrades, memory addition, and pc hard drive maintenance might be the answer.

    When I talk on IM or voice, with friends, One of us always seem to fall off the edge of Yahoo! It’s a bit like the old pirate days when someone had to ‘walk the plank - blindfold’. I see other folks having this problem too! Can this be fixed?
    THE SUGGESTION IS:
    Those I speak (IM or Voice) with around the world never seem to be able to work out their time from yours. Remember you have 4 time zones in the US!
    **** IT’S A VERY BIG PLACE ****!
    When this happens, I either have to leave Yahoo and go find the World Clock or, more quickly, go switch on my TV and go to Teletext to find their time difference, from yours, via GMT. NOW … If you could give your time (EST, PST, CT, etc) and then give “GMT” AS WELL, it would be great. Everyone, no matter where they are, or what their language, they know their time, AND they all seem to know GMT as well, so, if you could give GMT along with your local time, it would make a big difference to everyone I think! Especially as GMT is the world standard! Thanks.
    I’m 71, my ‘girlfriend’ in the USA (is mid 60’s) and we both find Yahoo (apart from the above), EXCELLENT! We talk all the time on IM and/or VOICE.
    Having spent 50+ years in the electrical/electronics business, I know the value of maintenance. IT HAS TO BE DONE!
    But, please, come back ASAP.

  198. Another reason to love YAHOO! Verizon & RCN have never given me any advance notice when they were going to be doing maintenance. I found out from Tech Support after they ran me through a long series of codes for my computer to function properly. The next day I had the same problems again as the Cable Company was still doing work in my area. That balony went on for over a WEEK!!! …
    Can’t believe there are people upset that YAHOO! is doing 2 days of maintenance which may slow down their service during a 6 hour period on those nights or it might not have any affect on them at all, they really need to get a life because the ones who have a right to complain are greatful for the advance notice & they work around it. I’m refering to anyone comunicating with family serving overseas in the Military ~ espescially those stationed in war zones.

Hi, thanks for the advance notice, I also have been having problems like when I write in yahoo.messenger and send it I can not see it if the other person gets it or not…the words don’t show in the screen after I send it but I do know afterwards that the other person gets it because they write back.

    I hope your maintance will help clear this issue out.

    Thanks for givin us warning about upcoming Yahoo messanger maintenance. We have enjoyed the Yahoo mail and Messanger. Through YM, it seems like the world of communications has shrunk its physical distances.

    I just have one other comment. when I send a mail to someone, I sometimes INCLUDE my name to see the copy of the E-Mail I am sending. Lately, since last 1 month, I do not see the copy of my own email in my INBOX, even my Yahoo Email ID was included by me in my email !!!! I have tried to search the other Yahoo groups… but have not found the answer.. CAN YOU please direct me to the correct place to solve this mystery. Is there something in my “Email defaults” which I am not aware of?

I love your messenger, I hope the maintenance wont be too long , will this mean it will show our messenger with the sign in logo? and it wont turn on after signing in?? last time I had this problem with signing in, and it wouldnt let me sign in, it kept closing the sign in and shutted down on me completly, will this situation happen again? okay I see it will be in repair on monday and tues, 7pm pacific time, aloha.

    I am glad to hear that you are finally doing a maintenance check on yahoo messanger. I have been having problems with getting booted off of messanger and it not getting logged on at times. I do like yahoo messanger but I feel that this maintance is long past due. I hope this will also keep me from getting the error message when I get cut off of yahoo messanger.

    I like me Yahoo, there a lot things very interesing for stay here.
    But i am not agre with the way use some people the chats rooms, think ned to clasifique the womans sale in another site chat room.
    I feel alone some time, but cant enter on the chats rooms yahoo, because all the rooms fulled with people what use for sex, burles, and a lot times lies, that make me mad, really, please, divide, clasifique this special people.
