Flickr Photo Fun

Have you ever seen the “A Day in the Life of…” photo book series? Photographers from around the world have 24 hours to shoot pictures of a certain theme, and the best photos are put in the final book. In my past work life, I worked on the America 24/7 book project which invited amateur photographers to participate.
Flickr, a global photo sharing community owned by Yahoo!, recently announced a similar event on their blog called “24 hours of Flickr”:
- “To celebrate this global community, we invite you to join us in “24 Hours of Flickr” – a day-long global photo project. On May 5, 2007, grab your camera and whatever else you need, and chronicle your day in pictures. The group’s photos will be featured at Flickr events around the world this summer and in a companion book, which will contain a selection of photographs chosen from the group (more about this soon!).”
To participate, join the 24 Hours of Flickr group to get ready for the big day.
So, you may be asking, “What does this have to do with Yahoo! Messenger?” Aside from this being a great event that I wanted to make sure Messenger users knew about, it also gives me a chance to tell you about the Flickr plug-in.
Flickengr is a great little plug-in that shows you the latest photos that your Messenger friends have posted on Flickr. And if you have additional contacts that you’ve added through Flickr, their photos will rotate in as well. I’ve found it’s a great way to find out more about my friends (who knew my uncle had tried windsurfing??), plus the constant stream of new photos makes my desktop more interesting. The Flickengr plug-in and many others are available for the Windows version of Yahoo! Messenger (8.1).
If you participate in the 24 Hours of Flickr event on May 5, let us know by posting a link to your photos in a comment. Happy snapping!

Comment by irene — April 27, 2007 #
Hi David - This is for the current version of Yahoo! Messenger, 8.1. Sorry if that wasn’t clear - I’ll add a note to the post.
You can check out more plug-ins for 8.1 at http://us.gallery.yahoo.com/messenger.
Thanks,

[…] Is it wrong to make today’s post a blatant rebroadcast of the cool thing from another Yahoo! blog that was posted about just this morning? If it is, I don’t want to be right. Because then I’ll have to come up with something else to write about. Thanks, Sarah! […]

I still prefer the ease of using Photobucket. Until I see stability in messenger, and the spam filters are strengthened in Yahoo Mail, I refuse to use another service.
The count-down to May 14th, 2007 has started.

Hi Thom,
I don’t know of any concrete plans for a Yahoo! Photos plug-in, but it is a development platform that anyone can use to create plug-ins. So if you or someone you know is a developer, they can create it and make it available for others to use. You can find out more about the plug-in software development kit at:

Thanks,

Hello,
As I have told earlier, the best feature I like about Yahoo! messenger is the Address Book.
Now, here is a small suggestion:
Right click on a name on your yahoo messenger list…click on Contact details…and you the see the details of contact:
Now, click on ADDITIONAL TAB…
You will see Messenger IDs for the LCS and also for IBM lotus suite.
Now…since Reuters messaging is supported by Yahoo! messenger there should be a place for that too. I suggest you to give an option to add Reuters ID…
The field for Reuters ID should be below and in the middle of LCS and IBM Lotus suite.
So let’s hope you will make this improvement at the earliest.
Rock on Yahoo address book on Yahoo messenger.

Amid all the talks of Microsoft taking over Yahoo! and/or AOL+Yahoo! parternship/merger/takeover…
I would like to see compatibility between Google talk and Yahoo! messenger. Google talk is built on open platform and there should be no reason why Yahoo! shouldn’t allow us to message Google.
Currently Yahoo! is losing customers because some people have to use Google talk to talk to their Google talk friends.
If these people are given the option to message their G talk friends from Yahoo…then Yahoo! would retain these customers.
So send me €€€€€€€€€ for my valuable advice and implement the same.
