Working Together: Yahoo! Messenger and Reuters Messaging
April 4, 2007 on 10:06 am | In Features | 18 Comments
Yesterday, Reuters Messaging announced the release of version 6.0, which includes connectivity with Yahoo! Messenger.
Reuters Messaging is a popular instant messaging program among energy market professionals, allowing them to communicate instantly with their market contacts about trades, scheduling and logistics. This new interoperability between Yahoo! Messenger and Reuters Messaging enables users of either program to send text based messages, see online presence, and access conversation history between networks by signing into one service.
To add a friend who uses Reuters Messaging 6.0 to your Yahoo! Messenger contact list, click the “+” button on your Messenger window. Then enter your friend’s email address and choose the “LCS” network from the drop down menu (eventually “Reuters” will become an option in the network menu, but for now use LCS).
This latest interoperability is part of our overall effort to help Yahoo! users connect with more friends, family and co-workers around the world by partnering with the industry’s leading communication networks. The Yahoo! Messenger network currently interoperates with the Microsoft Windows Live Messenger, IBM Lotus Sametime, Microsoft Live Communication Server and Reuters Messaging networks.

What would be really nice is if generic connectivity with XMPP (Jabber) servers were added (either built into messenger or through the Yahoo! network itself. I think this would not only show dedication to providing open IM communications with other services but also support for the Open Source community.

This is very good. Just like Phones can work in any network messengers should work with any network too. Now, you should try and bring inter-operatibility with AOL messenger and Google talk. Do let us know if you will work with these 2 messenger companies or not.
Good luck.
Okay then take care. I will give suggestions regarding this blog specially tomorrow or whenever I get a chance next. I have to go now to sleep soon. Bye everyone.

1) I was talking about Normal phones…a phone of any network can make calls to a phone of any other network…
similary a person using one messenger should be able to send messages to a person using any other messenger.
2) Please be kind enough to delete phone numbers of people like the above. I think the person is trying to harass others.

All this messaging one messenger to another sounds like a way to get everyone on the same page to turn channels and start charging for services offered. You have money in one hand and good will in the other, which one will get you farther? Good will don’t pay the bills, money does.

That above ‘noname’ is actually me. Just posted the above comment with my different blog-commentator ID.
Okay yes…I have to make suggestions for this blog…so here they are… please follow up on these:
1) When the comments are posted here…only the date of the comment posting is shown…can the time stamp be also there…Date and Time should be there on the comments
2) There should be a section on right on the LATEST COMMENTS…some people come and comment on some old threads and it’s not possible for us to go and check every thread and look for new comments all the time.
So it’s good to have the LATEST COMMENTS section
Thanks…I will give more suggestions later…Cheers

Might as well include XMPP (Google Talk) support, Hopefully this will shut those Google fanboys up for good.

I know this is off this particular topic, but what happened to off line messages on my Yahoo IM?? Since downloading the new Yahoo messenger, I cannot receive any off line messages anyone leaves on my Yahoo IM~Please tell me what is going on with this. Is this no longer a feature?? I loved that feature. It allowed my friends, family and I to keep in touch easily…Please comment about this~Lynne

Hi Lynne,
Offline messages are still a part of Yahoo! Messenger, including the new Yahoo! Messenger for the Web. I’m sorry that you’re having problems receiving them. I recommend uninstalling Yahoo! Messenger and then reinstalling the latest version from the Messenger website (http://messenger.yahoo.com). Thanks,

Hello,
I received the same error as yuli which is when adding a reuters messenger contact, I get an error that says “there was an error in the server while trying to add contact. please try again” I’ve tried and tried and the error still persists. Does anyone have any advice to offer? Thanks.
