And the Oscar goes to…Yahoo! Messenger

The countdown to the live broadcast of the Academy Awards has officially begun. The red carpet, glamorous stars, happy winners and heartbroken losers…sounds like a movie all in itself. In honor of the upcoming movie fun, here are some fun ways that Yahoo! Messenger can bring the silver screen right to your desktop.
One of my favorites is the Movie Trailer conversation plug-in, which lets you and a friend watch the latest movie trailers together in the IM window. I’ve used this a few times with a friend to decide what movie we wanted to see. It also has a showtimes and tickets link, so when you do decide, it’s just a quick click off to Yahoo! Movies to find out where it’s playing.
If you prefer to watch trailers on your own, there’s also the Movie Trailer tab plug-in which sits right at the bottom of your Messenger window. Scan the selection of movie posters to find a trailer to watch, then sit back and grab some popcorn. There’s even a full-screen mode.
With all the great video services out there, including Yahoo! Video, you’re sure to find favorite video clips that you want to share with a friend. The new Video Sharing plug-in makes it really easy to share and watch clips right in the IM window from YouTube, Yahoo! Video or Google Video. Just launch the plug-in and send your friend a link to a video from one of those three sites. The video will load right in the IM window so you can watch it together.
Gotta go! I still have a couple of movies left that I want to see before the show on Sunday night.![]()

Hi,
I’ve read rumors in some forums, and I’ve remember that there was a screen capture,
of Y! messenger with tabbed chat windows.
As far as I recall it was said that this feature is implemented, but Y! never exposed it to public.
(I’m talking about 8.x versions, not the new Vista which shows tabbed chat in the official promo video)
Can you confirm it ? Is it planned to expose it in 8.x versions ?
Thanks.

Hi Volunteer Community,
Free voice calls can occur between any two people that are signed into Messenger at the same time. It is not dependent on location or what country you or your friend are in. If your friend is online and you are online in Messenger, click the call button during your IM conversation to make a free PC to PC call. Thanks,
Sarah Bacon

You can have tabbed messages / chat windows (but it’s a little unstable)
Details are available at WackyB forum here:

So why is the “tabbed feature” not exposed ?
Is it planned to be exposed in one of the next 8.x versions ?
Or is kept a “secret” so this feature will be only in the new “Vista” version, as an incentive to move to Vista version ?
Sarah,can you please comment ?
10x !
(and thanks Andy for link.)

Any updates on the .NET 3 based version of yahoo messenger? The one designed for Vista?
I’m quite interested in that version and am anxious to try it out.
Is there a beta testing for the same?

1:45 p.m.
C.S.T.
Yahoo Messenger Chatrooms suddenly go dead, those not logged in can’t log in at all. Lasts about 45 minutes.
Yahoo Messenger up and running after an hour or so, however, back to the same problem as before when trying to switch chatrooms (A long, long lag)
Will this be the case for the next month and one half, as happened all through January?
On another note:
Curiously, when I tried to log on during todays down period, I was given the option of providing my credit card number, had I ever used it as some form of payment directly to Yahoo, as a means of retrieving my password.
Was I possibly redirected to a “Phishing” website? Were thousands of others, as well? Or is this now standard operating procedure? I had never seen it before.
Can any Yahoo Staff Member please take a moment to answer these questions, before they “mysteriously” disapear from this blog?
Is there surely not some method of recieving warnings about downtime? Everyone recieved an instant message from Yahoo at least once that I’m aware of. I thought it was bogus, and paid it no mind. Untill I researched that message a bit and discovered it WAS, in fact, from Yahoo.
Send us those p.m’s when you know your going to have downtime? Please? It was very helpfull last year. Or possibly add another button to this blog, where we can click to find out?
Oh please? It would show you care.

Yes, a previously used credit card is something Yahoo! uses as a means of verification for password recovery. You may have been directed to this page when you were having trouble signing in: https://edit.yahoo.com/forgot
