Missing the old sounds?
February 16, 2007 on 12:30 pm | In Features |
Some of you have mentioned it here on the blog and many more have written into customer care about it. You miss the old Messenger sounds and want them back. Ok, we heard you!![]()
Now you can download and restore the old sounds like the creaking door, doorbell, classic chime and more. Once you’ve downloaded and put them in your Messenger sounds folder, you can go into Preferences and assign the sounds you want for different functions.
We also added an “Old Messenger sounds” link in the Downloads section here on the blog.
Sound good?![]()

Sarah, are we going to have an update soon for voice in Vista?
Comment by Venom — February 18, 2007 #
Hi
If you want an easier way to get your old sounds back (and have the flexibility to change individual sounds from old/new at a button press) you can get WackyB-Sounds Toggle here:
http://www.wackyb.co.nz/option,com_remository/Itemid,3894/func,fileinfo/id,12
Best thing is different users sharing the same pc can have their preference of new/old sounds, it does not change the sounds for all the users as the yahoo download does
OR… you can just turn off the yahoo sounds and use the plugin:
http://gallery.yahoo.com/apps/513
you can use the old/new/custom sounds not only for all your contacts.. but assign different sounds for each user and each action + speech (have the status changes spoken to you) + more..

I would like to know why my Yahoo! Messenger has stopped working since I installed Windows Vista home premium ? It used to work fine on Windows XP.
Whenever I try to login it gives me the same login error, to try signing in again.
I installed and tried using Yahoo! Messenger 8.1.0.239.
While searching on the net I found on ‘Yahoo! Answers’ a few other people had the same problem, none of the answers given seem to help solve the problem.
Any information on when Yahoo! Messenger for Vista be released ?
This is very frustrating as I am not able to communicate with my friends on Yahoo! at all, and is left with no other option but to use other chat services for the same.

i haven’t upgraded yet, i’m too scared. i’ve heard nothing but bad things about Yahoo’s msg upgrade.
several of my friends have gotten it and told me it S***.
and i dont dare to get the upgrade cuz if it goes wrong i might lose contact with family and friends that live far from me.

Thanks, I am glad this is back. With the new sound it is tough to put “which to where”.

Maybe while you are at it you can fix plugins so they work or so i can remove them - “NEW” 8.1 Messenger looks pretty but is slower and less configurable than it should be - One step forward six steps back - you guys are getting as bad as Microsoft

Hi ROBO,
Not sure what issues you’re having with plug-ins, but if you want to remove one from your Messenger window, click the triangle in the plug-in’s header that’s on the right side. Choose “Close” from the menu. This will remove the plug-in from your window.
To uninstall a plug-in, click the “Add Plug-ins” button near the bottom of your Messenger window. This will open up the Plug-in Manager with “My Plug-ins” tab selected. To uninstall a plug-in, click the garbage can next to its listing.

I already installed the old messenger just to have the old sounds back. I copied them to my archive and then later I installed the new Yahoo.
You have to be inventive after begging Yahoo so many times for having back the old sounds. Finally now they answered a lot of peoples desire.
Thanks anyway.
