Introducing Yahoo! Messenger for Windows Vista
January 8, 2007 on 9:27 am | In Vista version |
There’s a lot of buzz around Microsoft’s new operating system, Windows Vista at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas, where we and thousands of others are this week.
And today we announced we’re working on a brand new version of Yahoo! Messenger, built from the ground up specifically for Windows Vista.
This is our next generation of Yahoo! Messenger. It takes full advantage of the dynamic design, slick interfaces and other cool stuff that Windows Vista offers through its Windows Presentation Foundation (WPF). And it has a whole new look, some great enhancements of beloved features (like super emoticons!) and other goodies that will make it a fast favorite for those of you who upgrade or purchase a new computer with Microsoft Windows Vista. Here’s a short list of what’s in this new version:
-
Instant message, voice, webcam video, and more
-
Keep conversations organized by dragging and dropping them into one tabbed window
-
Brand new emoticons, program icons and alert sounds
-
Automatic groups are created in your contact list based on your Yahoo! interests (i.e. Yahoo! Sports Fantasy Football league)
And check out our info page which includes more feature descriptions, screenshots and a video preview. You’re ready to play with this new Yahoo! Messenger, right? Well, you’ll have to wait a little bit. Windows Vista will be available starting January 30, 2007 and we expect to have Yahoo! Messenger for Windows Vista available in beta a few months later. We’ll keep you posted through this blog. You can also submit your email on the info page to get notified.Right now, check out the screenshots and video to see what all the buzz is about.

In the past, I have complained to yahoo, particuarly the TOS website and nothing was done. I once again am coming to you guys in the hopes that you will listen and fix things.Booters are filling up the 124 part of a chatroom packet. While this is a problem for my friends and I, we aren’t the only ones being affected. Please fix this problem. Here is an example. Thank you.
[packet $A8 Chatroom] «size 10165»104¤Yahoo! Chat Help:1¤109¤bla_b00ted193¤117¤Hi everyone ¤124¤1(THEY CAN PLACE 10K OF DATA HERE)¤
Comment by Evil — January 8, 2007 #
These people exploiting this are signing in several id’s into a room and flash flooding each id with said packet above with 10k packet size each send into the room.
so say 8 id’s sending 10,000 bytes each chat packet every milisecond into the room is a 80,000k packet size been recieved by a chatter which by yahoo’s own network filtering and this is just one send by the ids and if they keep doing it yahoo disconnects the reciever aka the innocent chatters.
yahoo need to re-look over their network on how they deal with packet sizes and remote side disconnections and disconnect the senders not the receivers and setup a filter to look at chatroom packet size not only character size.

[…] Yahoo Messenger for Vista Debuts at CES I’m here at CES, where Yahoo and Microsoft are thrilled to show off a preview of the new Yahoo Messenger for Vista, built entirely on WPF. Yahoo has a great landing page with screenshots, a screencast of the app and a sign up sheet for when they release a beta. I held off on blogging this until we got the Channel 10 interview posted, where I hooked up with Jeff Sandquist and the crew to do an interview with the Yahoo folks, Joshua Jacobson and Matthew Skyrm, about the application. (If you haven’t seen Channel 10, it is the sister to Channel 9, targeted to enthusiasts and power users.) They talk about their motivations for building this new messenger, their experience with WPF and Expression and more. They’ve got a blog up as well! I’ve been working with the lead developer, Eric Burke, along with Frog Design, including Lee Brimelow, on this application and the alpha is looking great. This application is a shining example of the opportunities and possibilities of the Vista and .NET 3.0 platform. Expect to hear more about this, for sure! Messenger on Vista, Jumpcut, and Answers are also getting some pub, and the gang from Yahoo! Tech is in the control room documenting everything (here and across the show). […]

Can I just add a small pledge for a new and improved UNIX version? The current version has no video nor voice support. Yes, I know there’s some other clients out there, but nine of them have all of the features of the official vesion.
Comment by Radu — January 12, 2007 #
Please please please do NOT spoil the clean interface with plugins, ads on the bottom, popup messages, installer trying to change homepage.
Make it the way that people have to take notice and say “WOW, that definitely is a good thing.”
Dont make it go the AIM/ICQ trash bloat+ad mode.

Looking good for Vista. I hope Y! also plans on releasing a full and un-beta update for the Mac soon too, with at least most of the features found on it’s Windows counterpart.

Damn, Y! is getting better and better, just hope those boots and hackers are gona go to Hel now, man u guys got to fix those bugs, if not i think i better remain with the old versions. So my Dear firends, good luck in all your hard work.

Hi,
If the new version of the messenger is based on WPF and .NET 3.0, shouldn’t I be ablr to run it on windows XP with the .NET framework installed?
Why does everyone keep saying that this is only for the Vista operating system?
-Hitesh
Comment by Hitesh A — January 23, 2007 #
Hi Hitesh,
Yes you are correct. If you have .NET running on Windows XP, you will be able to use the upcoming Vista client. However, we’re not sure yet if all the features and enhancements will work on Windows XP. We’re really focused on making a client that will take advantage of all that Vista has to offer, so we want to make sure users understand that what we’re creating is being built specifically for Windows Vista. Thanks,

Ha! I appreciate the link, but I just want to clarify that I was not in said room along with press and those other bloggers. I’m just a regular Yahoo! user.
Though, if I can get in on the “inner circle” of beta testing for this nice new toy, I’d be a very happy blogger!

Comment by anonimus — January 27, 2007 #
hey, this phototype does look prety good.. This is what I hope to see in the final verson:
1. new, louder (but not too loud) sounds.
2. better intergradtion with windows live messenger
3. removal of adubles
4. NO ADS and removal of plug ins, unless the plug ins can be fit in well with the user experance of YIM.
Comment by Chris — January 27, 2007 #
Hopefully this will come soon, as having just installed Vista, Yahoo Messenger doesn’t work properly anymore. The Yahoo window comes to the front (on top of all other windows) every 2 seconds making it unusable.

Comment by Steve — February 1, 2007 #
Hi Steve - Sounds like you may not be on the latest 8.1.0.239 build. That bug should be fixed in it. So from Messenger, go to the Help menu and choose “Check for Updates” to see if you’re on the latest (or choose “About Yahoo! Messenger” from the help menu and check your version #). If you’re not, download the latest from http://messenger.yahoo.com and install. Should take care of it.

I would first like to say again that finally having a place to speak to yahoo about messenger is the best thing youve done in VERY long time..
I would next like to say that I HOPE you dont get rid of plug-ins(in the vista version).. I dont mind how you do it conceal them or what but i love having such quick access to yahoo radio.
Lastly, I would just like to confirm that I have had zero trouble with build 239 on vista whatsoever.
Thanks for this new blog!

I have a friend having problems with getting sound/voice in chat in Messenger 8.1 with Vista. Does anyone else have this problem? and does the newest version of messenger 8.1.239 fix this problem?
Comment by Scott — February 2, 2007 #
Hi Sarah,
1) Are there any new features that you can tell us about which are not mention in the preview video by Josh Jacobson?
2) Are there any features which will be also implemented in the “XP” version ? e.g. “Tabbed chat windows” ?
BTW, can u tell me which is the most monitored\updated “official” Y! messenger group ? I usually check the “developers” group at http://tech.groups.yahoo.com/group/ydn-messenger/,
but is seems quite neglected…
10x,
Nick.

Hi Nick,
I don’t have any updates on the Vista version right now. I’ll be checking back in with Josh for another blog post soon so stay tuned…

Comment by Robin — February 8, 2007 #
Please at least post a fix so that Yahoo Messenger 8.1.0.239 supports voice and sound. When you introduce a new system, one expects all previouos capabilities to go with the program. I know Microsoft didn’t throw such a thing under the bus for the sake of the dollar? Or did they? Makes a boot loader common arsenal to have. Come on, we all arent big bad programmers.
Comment by KT — February 10, 2007 #
Before you waste $500 on VISTA ask yourself this do i download music, movies or pictures for FREE? if you answered yes than i recommend that you dont get sucked into vista. it is exactly the same as XP accept it looks cooler AND IT WAS DESIGNED TO BLOCK MUSIC AND MOVIE DOWNLOADING. think about it hundreds, thousands of bands trying to make money and everybody downloads thier songs off limewire or morpheus or where ever they can. and what about multimillionare movies, most people like you and i just download them. VISTA has come to gether with an idea, to block all websites that offer FREE DOWNLOADING, to block all P2P software. the other day i decided to upgrade my morpheus and to my surprise anything that i wanted to download would be blocked, i typed in a song, tried to download it and it says, THIS IS A COPY RIGHTED VERSION. they are taking over our ntertainment. in 5 years vista will be installed on every computer in the world. go to your daily harvey norman or WOW catalogue and what do you see every single laptop, pc, now comes with vista. vista only came out like a month ago they would have to be mad to offer it for free. maybe if you listen to the song DOWNLOAD THIS SONG by MC LARS you will understand.pass this on. tell everybody you know, about VISTA. just amagin, teens of the future having to pay for their music and movies.

Comment by 3nigma — February 26, 2007 #
I was really annoyed when I discovered there was no sound in Yahoo Chat with Windows Vista. Now, I think its the best thing that ever happened. I stopped chatting and now have more time on my hands to do other things. I’ve traveled around the world, painted my house (inside and out) and am thinking of running for president (of my school PTA, relax!). You know what? When sound returns to Yahoo Chat, I just might turn it OFF!

I also have Windows live messenger which works fine. I have checked my firewall and other settings and they are fine. I dont mind it i cannot use voice but atleast should be able to login and chat,

Hmmm..they say the next version of Messenger (for Vista) will come out in the 2nd quarter of this year.. That could be as late as June 30th (my opinion). Is there any way they can come out with a temperary build (for Vista) to fix the Voice problems in chat, and these other problems (posted by other people in this blog page) before the next official version comes out?
Comment by Kevin — March 4, 2007 #
I just downloaded 8.1.0.239 w/ module 8.0.0.1 onto a Vista Home basic system. I CANNOT LOG IN!!!! -keep getting the error:
“There was a problem signing into Yahoo! Messenger. Please try again a little bit later”
I tried all the basic stuff: rip out & reinstall, reboot etc.
I’m NOT behind a firewall, IE settings are correct. I think this ver. of Yahoo is just skunked.

Comment by Zak — March 15, 2007 #
Well reading all thes entrys here and i’m really disappointed that the yahoo is having voice issues in chat. But thats not the only problem i’m having with yahoo…there are so many booters, voice laggers and bots coming into the rooms its just not enjoyable like it used to be. Half the people i know have already moved to programs like paltalk or yzak or ylite to chat!!!! WHY DOESN”T YAHOO STOP THE BOOTERS AND BOTS????? Also, when I had to re-install yahoo 7.5 I was VERY upset to find yahoo doesn’t offer 7.5 anymore, so basically, if i want to use yahoo I’m forced into the newer version of yahoo which i don’t like and have had more problems with on my other pc. The new yahoo doesn’t have alot of the features i liked that are classic ..like the classic ring when someone IMs me.The new ring is so quiet i cannot hear it when im in another room of my home! How can i get those features back?.I’m also having issues with yahoo logging me out, not letting me log in and taking FOREVER to get into a chat room..Its ridiculous!!!..to compound the problem, The new vista i just bought for the laptop doesn’t have sound..im really really disgusted with the whole mess! I’m getting ready to leave yahoo and use another chat client!!!
Comment by cz_inaz — March 15, 2007 #
Ummm Zak..that install for voice on chat for Vista does not work. At least it didnt work for me, and I have Windows Vista Home Premium. I even have tried the manual install, and searched for that $winnt$.inf file afterI done what the instruction said. There was no such file on my PC, and it could not find it. I tried to log back into yazak.. got into a chat room (was a miracle..with the yahoo server issues), and I tried the voice thing. I still got no voice, and that “voice connect code 1″ error. Is there another way to istall it..what went wrong?
Comment by Kevin — March 16, 2007 #
is any beta/alfa/trial version available of yahoo messenger for vista? i’d love to use it, the 8.x version is giving me much trouble!
Comment by Barbatul — March 16, 2007 #
Lets face it folks..there are no fixes for voice in chat using Windows Vista out there. Guess we’ll all have to wait till Yahoo come’s out with official Messenger Version for Vista (they say..that’ll come out maybe by the 2nd quarter of this year). Guess..for all of us using Vista..we’ll just have to wait till they come out with that “Vista” version.
Comment by Kevin — March 18, 2007 #
I agree with you, Kevin. And when Yahoo Messenger for Vista come out, I’m STILL not going to download it until all the “kinks” are worked out. So….I’m looking at late 2007, early 2008…..maybe. Yahoo really dropped the ball on this one.

I absolutely hate yahoo, and yes I do have a nice laptop.. I waited a long time to get one.. Then when I get the dumb thing. I cant voice on yahoo. Soooooooooo I sit and type, no I am not lazy, But I do like to voice chat, and have fun with my friends. Yahoo might work when all the kinks are worked out. But wait..WHEN DOES YAHOO EVER WORK COMPLETELY?? Vista was a waste of my money!!! And yahoo can kiss my white rear,…*SMILES*
Comment by Renee — March 29, 2007 #
Vista is Microsoft’s “mistake”. They thought it would lour people like bugs near a neon light. Hmm maybe there right, were all suckers, only to find out we can’t really do much with Vista. And I think once Yahoo comes out with that “Vista” build of messenger (sometime later this Summer), it will still have compatibility issues with Vista (such as voice in chat). So..yah, Yahoo maybe lagging back with there reguler messenger for XP- but, I think it’s really Microsoft (which is an oversized money hungry greedy corperation), that really put the 2×4 up our rear. I agree with you Renee.. Vista is a waste of money!
Comment by Kevin — March 29, 2007 #
And folks… There was not a fix for voice I found anywhere for voice chat in Vista. I tried everything.. does’nt work (at least not for me). It might have worked for some people that had XP and upgarded to Vista. But I guess for some of us that just bought a PC with Vista already installed (that never had XP).. IT DON’T WORK!
Comment by Kevin — March 29, 2007 #
I have to disagree with you Kevin. Vista is really cool. Yahoo is the one who is “asleep at the wheel.” Listen, there are so many problems with Yahoo Messenger even WITHOUT Vista…BOTS, Spammers, “phantom” sign-ons and log-offs of people not on one’s buddy list, booters, voice booters, hackers, etc. etc. the list goes on. And all Yahoo does is play around with designing new emoticons!
Comment by Robin — March 30, 2007 #
True Robin.. Yahoo does need to step up there act, especially with the problems that there having with there servers being overloaded with spam bots, and unwelcomed “invite themself” guests, booters, etc.. And you’re right.. they should give us an update on the next build (Vista version) of messenger. At least so we know the status of Yahoo working out there “Vista” problem. But Atleast Microsoft themselfs should have sent the major company’s (such as yahoo), and other’s.. there layout of Vista as soon as last Summer, but, they did’nt. They waited until the last week of December to do that (according to various tech news sites). There are many other software programs, still not compatible with vista. Plus Vista itself has a few bugs and glitches that XP did’nt have.
I Know Yahoo is a free service for some. But yet, there are other’s that pay for there Yahoo (or Yahoo Partner’s such as AT&T Yahoo). So Yahoo themself’s should start get the ball rolling. I guess what is important now is for them to fix out the problems they have with the chat room’s now. But, also, the voice problem with chat on Vista need’s to be worked out too.
Comment by Kevin — March 31, 2007 #
Now don’t get me wrong.. Vista is really cool. Has some features that XP did’nt have too.. But it would be alot better (I guess will be later on in time), if more software programs can run on Vista.

Comment by Railcon — April 9, 2007 #
Hey Railcon..That fix may work for some (such as people that have upgraded from XP).. but, for those with a PC with Vista pre-installed, it does NOT work. There is a file in thwe Windows operating system that fix relies on.. It relies on the “$WINNT$” file that is not origionally in the Windows Vista Operating system. For Example: Those Upgrading from XP to Vista.. That $WINNT$ file stay’s in there, and maybe that fix would work. But, for those (such as me) that have PC’s with Vista pre-installed.. it WONT work. I’ve tried it, and I’ve tried the other method (listed on the yazak site), and they both don’t work. I guess the only true fix for all (regarding the compatibillity problem with Vista) is the next (Official) build (Vista Bulid) that yahoo would release this Summer (maybe). Anyway.. we all done without chat up until about 10 years ago. so.. voice in chat is not really a neccessity. So guess the rest of us will just have to wait!
Comment by Kevin — April 9, 2007 #
With the way chat is going now anyway.. Be lucky if we even have chat 5 years from now. Even IRC style chat, well be lucky to have. When Internet first came out.. it was meant for only a very few things such as surfing the net, and checking email. So I guess we’ll have to make the best of what we got now (as in yahoo chat), as it will not be around in about 5 years from now or so..
Comment by Kevin — April 9, 2007 #
hi all i see alot of complainers out there yahoo is doing all they can to make thing better for us and you all are complaining about the bots and voice chat and blah blah yahoo is a free sight they r not forcing you all to be here you can go else where if you like I THINK YAHOO IS DOING GREAT and r working over time to get ne mes vista ready to go sop stop complaining and get A LIFE
Comment by ron — April 10, 2007 #
WOOF!!!! It’s bad enough the chatrooms are so divisive. Now we are using the Yahoo Messenger Blog to tear each other’s spleens out? C’mon, Ron! I used to work in Customer Service. A company doesn’t really know how they are doing unless someone complains. And when a GROUP of people complain, then it is obvious that there is something (or several things) very wrong. In January 2007 (scroll up), Sarah Bacon, Product Manager at Yahoo, happily announced that Yahoo Messenger for Windows Vista was being developed and would be available “in a few months.” No other information or updates has been forthcoming. I think people are frustrated and impatient. Personally, I have asked once or twice for updates from Sarah, but have been ignored. Ron, if you think Yahoo is doing a great job communicating to Vista users, then I want a puff of what you’re smoking. Even without addressing the Vista upgrade, there are so many other problems with Yahoo right now. Yes, its a free service (for now), but why shouldn’t we voice our opinions and complaints? How else will Yahoo improve?

Just as a general rule, don’t download any “fixes” or follow any links that are posted by strangers (i.e. people you do not know personally) in blogs, chatrooms, pms, emails, etc. OMG! I’m starting to sound like my mother! But its true. Be careful, everyone. Not everyone is your “helpful friend.”

Ok…..where do I start….i love Vista so far I just feel inconvienced everytime i try to use yahoo and can’t get voice. I have been chatting in voice chat there for 7 years luckily my laptop is my work computer and I still have my old one with upgraded windows 98 se to xp on it at home. I also had a problem with getting mobile internet to work through Alltell cause they did’t have the software for vosta yet for the wireless cards…It HACKS me off that these vendors were and are still so poorly prepared.

well i stumbled onto this post hoping to get a clue about the realease &/or beta release of the vista client. The day the video by mr. jackobson (sry if typo’d) posted the video i did indeed do a massive search on yahoo & i admitt i did hold hopes of finding a leaked internal beta on some torrent site (yahoo take note I REALLY REALLY want this thing) alas no avail. some of the web site reviews i found made by people who were at the CES demo suggested sometime late 1Q. we are now a little way into the 2Q. this is annoying to me as tho old stuff to me get’s utterly boring (sole reason i beta tested vista & upgraded when came out was xp is tooo well same old same old) messenger is getting to be the same. however the video looks sleek &i cant wait to try it. for those of you who have voice troubles with the current release of messenger i ask this. have any of your tried fully exiting signing out & all out of messenger & relaunching the program via right click>run as administrator (works for me may work for you) the thing i must say amazes me the most in this whole blog/fourm is at the start of this blog almost any tech problems questions or whatever Sarah Bacon was very quick to answer & i got the warm cozy feeling yahoo cared. then as i went on she nor any other yahoo rep has responded in a LONG time. more over there is a question asked here more then any other & it starts being asked about the same time as Sarah Bacon’s responses are discontinued & that is a question of when. i personaly dont mind if difinitive dates are not said but i would like to hear the ideal perfect world we hope by this date projection or somthing. (for the yahoo reps not on this account but another yahoo acount i use) i was invited to the yahoo mail beta b4 it went public (it was funny really i picked up a magazine in a store describeing it having not logged in long time like i gotta try that wonder how got home looked & a invite was already waiting for me lol) i personaly loved it & havent gone back hell both my yahoo accounts now use it (this account hada wait for it to go public) point in case i would like to beta test this. also well remaining civil i am very much so trying to provoke a response from Sarah Bacon or Mr. jackobson (agine sorry if typo’d) or any1 else yahoo staff side who knows to at least give us the comunity a “idealy we hope to have it out by mm/dd/yyyy” even if its not a promis just somthing to give us a idea.

Can anybody even give us a ‘ballpark’ date when the new Vista-capable Messenger client will be available? Like so many other people who have posted here, I got a brand new computer with Vista and….Poof! no more voice. That was the main reason I kept Yahoo messenger on my machine(I hate to type, do it all day at work!). Unfortunately, it seems that Windows Live Messenger was bit by the same bug because I don’t have any voice there either (and don’t think I haven’t complained to Mr.Gates either!). C’mon folks, just a ballpark date, is that too much to ask?

Are our legs being pulled? Are we being mushroomed? WHAT GIVES?
Comment by John — May 8, 2007 #
Please add/change the following:
1. under preferences, general options, you can choose to open web links in a new window; please add the alternative option to open web links in a new tab.
2. allow the messenger program to remember more than 1 user. a drop-down box with several users would be most effective
3. i install my yahoo im on several pc’s, however i have to re-configure settings for each pc; can you consider storing some of the settings on your sever so that it is easier for users to sign in on a pc that is either a spare pc or not their own pc?
4. add ‘tabbed im’s’ allowing more than 1 im to appear in the same window.
5. block or minimize malware that is installed on a users pc from being able to send im’s from a user’s yahoo messenger account to other users. i use aim and msn and have never received spam im’s from friends from the latter instant messenger programs.
6. allow superwebcam mode to work better with firewalls and routers. i find that i cannot use superwebcam mode even with specified ports open.
Thank you

My Opinion is what Yahoo really need to focus on are 3 things:
1: I’ve noticed there having a problem with bots, booters, cluttered up chat rooms (with bots), and clogged up server’s (to where its even impossible to log into a chat room anymore). Yah, I guess that’s pretty important right now.
2: As time goe’s by, Microsoft is getting less and less populer anymore, especially with the release of Vista. More, and More people are gonna start turning more onto Macs over Windows. 5 Years ago.. Windows dominated about 90% of the PC’s globally. Now (since the release of Vista, more people are turning towards Mac’s, and Linux), Microsoft dominates about 65%-70% of the PC’s now. Sure that’s still a good number, but, a huge drop from 90%. In 5 years from now.. Windows will only account for 30%-40% of the PC’s, and most of the PC’s will be focused on (espcially) Mac’s, and Linux too. The day’s are numbered for Microsoft Window’s, and a neccessity for software, and accesserie’s (such as Yahoo Messenger) for Mac’s will be needed soon.
3: My main cocern for now is a version of Messenger for Vista. One to such thing as Voice in Chat using Vista. That will be needed real soon, as the current version (reguler version), the voice doe’s NOT work in chat room’s, using Windows Vista. By the end of the year (I read) that Microsoft is gonna stop ALL sales of individual copie’s of Window’s XP, and stop ALL support for Window’s XP too. I still use my old PC with XP on it for voice in chat, but I’de like to use my newer PC (with Vista pre-installed), for that purpose. By the end of the year it WILL be a neccessity for the new “Vista” build of messenger.
Drop us a hint.. Is the new version (for Vista) of messenger coming out soon?

I’m having problems logging in to YM on my Vista Home Basic OS. I keep getting the error: “There was a problem signing into Yahoo! Messenger. Please try again a little bit later”. The installed version is 8.1.0.244 with client module 8.0.0.1. At first I thought it has something to do with firewall settings but to no avail. What’s goin’ on?
Comment by Troy Punsal — May 17, 2007 #
Hi Troy,
Our latest version is 8.1.0.249 so if you continue having problems, you can try updating to the latest version in one of two ways:
1) In Messenger, go to the Help Menu and choose “Check for Updates”
2) Go to http://messenger.yahoo.com/download.php
Thanks,

I, also, would appreciate any information in regards to the release of the public beta of Yahoo Messenger for Windows Vista. In early January, we were told 2nd quarter so I would appreciate an update to see if we can still expect this by next month.
The current version 8.1 no longer functions on my system. It crashes and shuts down immediately after logging on. Previously, it worked but with some minor glitches here and there. I tried to fix it by uninstalling/reinstalling, and even doing a system restore.
The fact is that the current version just isn’t stable with Windows Vista. Some people have no problems, others can’t get voice chat to work, and some have frequent crashes.

I dont think Yahoo is considering releasing the messenger for Vista anytime soon. I posts some comments and suggestions in another yahoo blog page, and not only did they not resposnd, but, several times my comments get wiped off (deleted from) the page. In the latest Yahoo posting “Yahoo Chat Rooms: State of the Union” blog- they have not even mentioned anything about Vista (not even once). That kind-of tell’s you something. Like Amy has mentioned, Yahoo doesnt even have a clue how to come up with the solution to the Vista problem. That makes Yahoo very unprofessional. They promised (way back in January), that they would come up with the new messenger for Vista. Now, they won’t even respond to any questions on when Vista will come out. They don’t even mention it anymore in any of the newer blogs. Then they (sometimes) delete any comments or suggestions anybody makes regarding Vista. LETS BE STRAIGHT UP YAHOO.. Tell us the truth regarding Vista. Why tease us (posting about a messenger for Vista), and then, never releasing it.
I realise Microsoft dropped a bomb on many major software makers by releasing Vista (which is leaving many major software makers in the dust). But, don’t you think that we should be told the truth about Vista? Come on Yahoo..tell us the truth.

Microsoft is not the problom if you look at the demo they did for vista messanger it was dated jan 3 2007 which means programing what you say took aleast a month before that to get a demo. Soooo Did microsoft drop the bomb noooooo they released it to the makers and said vista is not to come out till jan 31 2007 if you break that dead line you pay $$$$$$$$$$$$ amounts if not it get’s realesed eairly noone broke the dead line… so they had the vista program for at least scence oct 2006 and still they did not get compatibale software so Microsoft is not to blame at all for “droping the bomb” or “the ball” but yahoo is to blam for showing a ver. that is not ready and they plan on not releaseing it and even a yahoo page says there main programer up and quit so the don’t know how to program around his coding issues that’s yahoo prob alone.

well i guess it’s my turn. i’m over here in iraq and yahoo messenger is the easiest way for me to stay in contace with my family and friends back home. like many of you i bought a brand new lap top and although my messenger does work, the voice server doesn’t on messenger or any of the chat rooms. i tried to download the Y!CABBY, which is supposed to be one of the solutions to get voice to work, but that won’t even run. Then i downloaded “Trillian” and although you can get voice, it sounds all messed up. Everyone in the chat rooms say that it beeps alot like i’m on a submarine when i try to talk. it’s amazing how much yahoo can upgrade it’s messengers over and over again when they really don’t need to, but when it’s really needed, they’re completely dumbfounded. i’m not even going to ask yahoo when the new messenger will be ready, because there’s not going to be an answer. I hope yahoo realizes how much they are screwing over alot of us soldiers over here though.

You know sarah bacon & yahoo it’s quite sad that u completly ignore the most asked question on the fourms & even if u dont know working at the company its not a hard inquiry to find out. i want u yahoo folks to think on somthing for a sec too. i have alwase been a big yahoo fan its nice user friendly & alota other things. i have also detested google forever dunno why just do. but as much as i like yahoo & dislike google every1 must admitt the have some seriously cool products. a toolbar with spell check & that can translate pages from any language to english. they have google maps & google earth (satalite imaging program very helpfull).now for yahoo. yahoo has a antiqe messenger & a promise unfufiled of a new 1 that the video looks visually stuning but no1 will so much as give even the tinsyist update on status. yahoo has a tool bar with OH MY a pop up blocker(so dose google msn & just about every damn other toolbar) & links to OH MY other YAHOO services. im a huge fan of launch cast & you got that in your favor but both radio & video could use some work. theres the yahoo jukebox too. google’s aim is obviosly functionality & to its CUSTOMERS. yahoos aim is more so media(cant dis that im big on media) but only TO ITS OWN AGENDA.
so case in point. if you are not gonna release vista messenger tell us now so we can stop waiting. or if you are really truely honestly gonna release it give us somthing anything as far as a update. idc if its we had a major bug or estimated release maybe ???? but not garonteeing release then or something. this is the most asked question in this fourms sarah & yahoo so answer it!!!!!!!!!! its not asking alot eather. & if whoever dosent know then stand up walk over to the cubicle of the guy who dose & ask (or call). this is far far far beyond asking for answers. your customer base is nolonger asking were demanding answers. take your time get it right but DONOT LEAVE US IN THE DARK. & please reply before i seriously consider somthing along the lines of a boycott. damn shame too i was/still(Barely tho) a huge yahoo fan but over a stupid simple little question my loyalty to this dumb company is dying FAST!!!!!!!
to the yahoo members who will read this im gonna bet (& damn this is sad) 99% chance this will be ignored. 55% chance it will be deleted.
i still hate google but thir products are such that like them hate them u must relent for what they provided is to helpfull to ignore yahoo can you say the same (NO YOU CANT EVEN RELEASE A NEW MESSENGER)

I myself personally like yahoo a lot. This new Yahoo messenger for Windows Vista does look very nice, and I can’t wait until it comes out in beta, but I do have to say, that it has been a while now since they started advertising it. Like the rest of you guys my patience does wear thin, but then I ask myself, “What good is an application if they just hurry and throw it out there?” If they did that, then that would be another big issue you guys would be red in the face of, because of bugs and so on. It took god 7 days to build the universe, but for man it took thousands of years to get where we are today. Give it a little time and have some faith in yahoo. Be glad they are actually doing this. I believe the beta will be out this month, between now and within 2 to 3 weeks. I don’t think yahoo will advertise something for that long, and then leave it in the dark. I also have to say that Vlad was probably right on the money about Sarah. She is not allowed to give any dates or info on yahoo’s beta release. Reasons? Well I can think of two. If she gave a release date, and every blog, news page, etc, Posted it up on their website, and on or near the day of the release they find a problem they had to fix that would take days, you would have a lot of people in an uproar, as well as making the yahoo team look bad. Another reason is simply rules. If Sarah was told not to give out any information for whatever reasons necessary, you cannot jump down her throat on something that is not her fault. She is only doing her job. Put yourself in her place, and then reread your comments. You will see exactly what I mean. That’s pretty much enough said on my part. Keep up the good work Yahoo.
Comment by SilverWolf — June 2, 2007 #
Hmmm..you know, Vlad probably has a point. They probably gave up on the “Vista Messenger” project. You ever notice, they stopped mentioning “Vista” all together in the last month? It don’t sound like there gonna come out with the “Vista” messenger anytime soon.
And, Theo also has a good point. Why keep advertising about the Beta Messenger for Vista if it’s not going to be released afterall. I mean, on there main blog page: there is an advertisement about the beta messenger for Vista coming out soon (which it’s been on that page since January).
If there not going to release it, they should “wipe off” that Vista advertisement on there main blog page. It’s just as easy wiping that “vista” messenger ad off ad it was when they “wiped” many of my comment’s I posted. LOL
Comment by Kevin — June 2, 2007 #
Oh, and Silverwolf: I do see what you mean. Patience is perfection. But, then again.. why advertise it so soon, then not mention anything about it (not at all) for months. I mean they don’t even listen to peoples comments about it, they don’t post anything about it anymore. And, whenever some of us post a comment, question, or a suggestion, they “wipe off” delete it from the blog page.. I mean you gotta admit, thats NOT right, and that is very un-professional of them. Thats why there are so many angry customers posting on this page.
Comment by Kevin — June 2, 2007 #
Oh yah, and Silverwolf: The Yahoo Team already look’s real bad with there bot issues in the chatrooms, and there server issues. Then they posted a messenger Vista advertisement back in January, and now it’s June, and they don’t even mention anything about it at all. They should NOT have posted that messenger for Vista advertisement until April, or May. That mak’e them look real bad already, and real un-professional!

Hey guys, wanna know why your voice chat isnt working? Because all you little retards went out and bought your gay ass intel based pcs, with all kinds of mobo problems. I recently had to install both a sound card, and vid card on an intel system, because anything requiring the onboard chips failed. I have a 2.0ghz AMD Athlon 64 X2(dual core) with an nvidia onboard graphics, and realtek onboard hd audio. It is running windows vista home premium. My pc model is an HP Pavillion a1748x. Because of my chipset, every program I have tried on this computer has worked, every part of yahoo works flawlessly. The moral of this story is, MY 2.0 ghz Amd will out perform any Intel based pc on the market, for the life of the computer. Intel is faster, but way less stable, and i don’t know about you, but id trade stability over speed any day. And by the way, you with the windows 98 computer, go die. Plus, if you havent noticed, Sarah Bacon is a bot. Come on now, noone talks like that, you can tell what words its picking out, because it only responds to certain things, like only half of Othmans question. Good night all, INTEL BLOWS!
Comment by Jasen — June 2, 2007 #
haha your copies of vista are probly illegal which is why you have issues with messenger, i have intel dual core and i’m fine with ultimate, stop trying to haxor windows and maybe yahoo will work for you too;) btw amd used to be so pathetic i mean the overheating issues that surrounded amd cores were many i had to use a jet engine to even cool that thing down lol amd will always be crap in my eyes after years of having one and intel never burning out and running smooth as. As for vista being crap i think microsoft did a fantastic job xp was the worst episode ever in the entire windows saga. Thanks microsoft and thanks yahoo for bringing out a fancy messenger to go with a shiny new o/s. I am as happy as i was when 98 first came out and it was shiny, please don’t ruin this by making another one 3 years later called vista me and making it really bad i beg you. By the way being with yahoo for almost 10 years i am the only one who has the right to complain about yahoo, you need to lay off yahoo and microsoft look at them for what it offers not what flaws it has. If your going to complain please have a valid reason not something like ” oh no voice doesn’t work” or “oh no vista sucks because i broke a nail” please spare us your moronic comments. If you think microsoft sucks then go buy a mac simple solution instead of wasting energy on complaining about a program that you nor anyone in your family could produce and make billions in your lifetime, perhaps your jelous and this may be the reason behind why you complain cause all you can do is create complaints and not multi billion dollar programs that control the world.
hahahaha losers

Do you think that yahoo cares or listens on what we talk here ?
I just wanna tell you my friends, we just talk on with other, but noone from yahoo will read this.
Mess for vista vill be out soon ,2-3 weeks….it’s known for some time, just play with google and find info on the subject,i’m shure someware you will find mid june .
i hope after such a long development time, vista messenger will be more then glass and look .
Yahoo is realy low on security with messenger right now.
Comment by vlad — June 3, 2007 #
Haha..
LOL. I see we got a couple of immature 14 Year Olds that just posted on this page (not talking about you, vlad, but the other 2 that just posted).
OK children..listen up. Some of the recent comments don’t even make sense. “go out and buy a Mac? Gimme a break. It’s easy for you since you have your parents buy you one. Some of us WORK for our money, and pay bill’s. Oh, buy the way.. I had an AMD PC, and it didnt even last a year. There were issues with the CPU chipset.
The issue is they posted an advertisement about the new messenger way back in January, and now it’s June. Why did they post that so soon? Sure, its OK that they take there time with the new messenger (but let us know about it though).
Vlad..Hope your right, that will be very cool when it comes out. But, I’de rather they take there time, and get it right, rather then rush it, and it has all kind of issues. But they should let us know something about the status or outcome of it, so we know, they have’nt forgot, or gave up on the project.
As for the other’s that posted.. Get permission from your parents before you post that junk on a blog page. GROW UP, and GET A JOB!! LOL

I ve read sites saying the beat would be released in the 2 quarter well here it is june the last month of the 2nd quarter , i am starting to think its all hype it aint coming soon we will be lucky to see it by next year , if they were going to release it in the second quarter it should of been done by now well i think it should of been , the coming soon is crap dont believe it , if they think 3 4 even 5 months is soon since they been working on this since vista came out come they need to stop lying and do what they say
Comment by Gerik4 — June 14, 2007 #
ive been checking the sites waiting for it to come out too.. like everyone here lol.. entered my email address and stuff back in january and stuff.. anyway.. i kinda have the feeling its ready to be deployed but maybe they are waiting on microsoft to release an update for yahoo to work with the least problems.. dunno really if it would be viable.. but i cant think bout any other reason.. i mean.. they showed it in january which means it worked and was usable
Comment by Alex — June 14, 2007 #
it wont be coming out anytime this year yahoo needs to take down the coming soon if they still waiting for vista to be shipped ha weird how they showed it off at CES or whatever it was called but then they cant release it and CES was in Jan so they have had 5 months to fix errors and what not so screw it i’m done waiting
Comment by pr10wrx — June 14, 2007 #
Hi! I’m also very eager to download and install ym for vista. I used to use my computer to call my family abroad through yahoo messenger when I was still using xp. Now it is not cheap to get in touch with my family since international calls are really a pain in the ass. So I hope Yahoo! would release it very soon. I hope it’s coming out this month or next month would do. Please… I’m begging you.
Comment by Al-kabir A. Jikiri — June 14, 2007 #
Only a few ppl are having problems with 8.1 and they are getting them fixed without microsoft updates , i for one never had any problems installed it on an upgrade and it worked did a clean install and it worked so they have no excuse at all they showed previews of it in January and like the previous post said and i saw it worked fine and if they cant fix problems in 5 months they need to get new programmers cause thats horriable , heck they have some there posting blogs and web pages how its so cool well it cant be that cool it aint out yet so how cool can it be i mean i can make cool pictures and lie and say i got a messanger coming out that is so cool but i have integraty , they can at least release the beta so we can all see it even if it had mistakes it would be expected its a beta
Comment by Gerik4 — June 14, 2007 #
The yahoo team in charge of the messenger project already has vista.. its a founy post.. think bout it.. they devolped it by january 8th..they had to had vista to test it on.. also.. its yahoo.. huge company based on technology.. they got vista along with the other companies before the general public did.. also, vista had several betas before the final release.. so that one post is FAKE
Comment by Alex — June 14, 2007 #
did i read it right ? yahoo messenger (for vista) is not coming?
well that sucks !
Comment by Dennis — June 15, 2007 #
omgg.. why is it closed? atleast remove the website.. so ppl wont wait for nothing
Comment by Trolly — June 15, 2007 #
I figured thats what they would say but yet its still on there meesenger sight all there blogs are still there and you can still sign up with your email address , if it is really closed then why not admit it on the news and not just on this blog there trying to get us to be oh well and sto waiting so they can release it and every one be oh i thought they closed the project and all but all there doing is buying themselves time because they cant build it as good as they thought and they need more time
Comment by Gerik4 — June 15, 2007 #
Maybe shes just teasing us, I dont think that yahoo is so stpid to waste all the work nd disappoint their costumers.
Comment by sss — June 15, 2007 #
Well it wouldn’t much matter we have all seen the video of them showing it we know it works ,but they have already disappointed there consumers by making us wait 5 friggen months and no beta yet . so if it works so well where the heck is it yahoo

i am very dissapointed and very upset on yahoo.. atleast if they would admit it in public that it wont come out, i don’t know why they need to post it here in the blog.. shame on you yahoo
Comment by Trolly — June 15, 2007 #
I ve come to the conclusion yahoo doesnt care if they did they would of told us or given us an update , i mean a soldier even asked for an update on the progress cause ut was the guys best way to communicate with family and friends over there , what do ya know not even a reply post if they dont even care about the soldiers posts you know they dont care about ours . if anybody should of gotten them to reply it was them but of course STILL COMING SOON , soon what is soon to them , soon to me is a month maybe 2 but 5 going on six thats pathetic they had vista before any of us did they showed a video preview of it at ces in january , and they have an auto reply from sara bacon i think posted in i thnk june saying there still waiting for the vista shipment that is a crock they had it before any of us and then i saw the post saying it was cancelled now its been removed , WOW there apparently about hype and not about action .for all we know it could be done already and there just sitting back and laughing at all of us , THANKS YAHOO , i bet this one will be deleated im just sick of all this crap . if it was such a big deal for them not to us when its coming out why did they preview it and have a video and have some different ppl supposedly working on it telling us how cool it is i think the truth is they have no idea the preview was a fake and they have ran out of excuses so they just dont reply , i mean leaving a soldier hanging how pathetic

I signed up to be notified MONTHS ago. Seems alot of companies on the web employ similar tactics. Throw up a preview, maybe a video and build up as much hype as possible. Then squeeze it for all it’s worth. Honestly I won’t be pissed until 2008.
We have no choice but to wait. Complaining won’t get anything accomplished. It will be released eventually.
Comment by Lance Thibodeau — June 16, 2007 #
Well in business you tell your consumers that you will have a product out in the 2nd quarter og the year well as far as i ive learned and done you stick to your projected date and i know microsoft had troubles releasing vista at first but what ya know they also told everybody a release the first time and then they also the new one and asweredconsumers questions yahoo dont answer questions they told magazines there projected release and what ya know there not even listening to the most important post from the soldier yeah they may not have it until 2008 but they need to let ppl know instead of saying the projects cancelled and that there waiting on shipments of vista that one really burned my hide they had it before we did
Comment by Gerik4 — June 16, 2007 #
yahoo, pls. don’t abandon your project (messenger for vista).. it’s so cool

yahoo web is actually very useful when u are on the go and need to use unrestricted yahoo without downloading and installing the whole program.. or when u happen to be in a company where the IT people blocked yahoo.. and yahoo vista has not being cancelled its all BS.. trillian is nice and handy.. ive tried it but it annoys me lol.. so i stick to separate messengers
Comment by Alex — June 18, 2007 #
Wow Sounds real professional there sarah bacon im suprised you are even the admin on this page with an attitude like that it aint our fault you guys there at yahoo cant hit your own projected date , and i happen to pay for 2 of your services right now , and i am seriously considering doing what you suggested and giving msn my buisness since you are the apparent rep for yahoo on this page and you are so inconsiderate to others , at least msn comes out with cool features and address the bugs quickly
Comment by Gerik4 — June 19, 2007 #

Comment by Gerik4 — June 19, 2007 #
Did some background checking, this Sarah person is a fake. I talked to someone who works at Yahoo and they are going to look into this person, to make it simple there is no blog for this messenger only the website where you can watch the demo. So do not believe a word this Sarah Bacon says as she or in fact he is a fake and is being worked on to be removed from Yahoo!

Comment by Gerik4 — June 24, 2007 #
hey ron, u saying that u got yaho messenger for vista???!!!!
Comment by sss — June 24, 2007 #
I think Ron is mistaking the current messenger (version 8.1) with Vista. The current messenger is NOT for Vista. The messenger for Vista is supposed to have an entirely differant interface to it, and it does’nt look anything like the reguler Yahoo messenger. They say they were suppose to have it out by the 2nd quarter of this year. Well 2nd quarter is OVER, and there is’nt even any word about the new vista messenger.
I am beginning to think, they can’t figure out a way for a voice protocal for chat rooms for the Vista platform. That, or they just simply abandoned the project as it was costing Yahoo more money, time, and effort than they figure it was worth. If so, at least they should post a statement regarding that, so we know if there is ever gonna be a Messenger for Vista. That’s all I’m asking is an update to if (and when) it would come out, or the status of there “so called” project, or even if they still have that project going, or if they abandoned it.
Comment by Kevin — June 25, 2007 #
I also think Yahoo owe’s it to there customers to inform us about the Vista messenger. I see that it won’t cost the company a cent to type a few words on the status of the new messenger, or if they have abandoned the project. At least let us know.
And if they have abandoned the project, they should take off that “Messenger for Vista” advertisement on the Messenger page. That would be fulse advertisement of something that never came out (if they did abandoned the project).
Comment by Kevin — June 25, 2007 #
They are going to do what they want when they want, they created it, now they can toy with it. This needs some other chat servers. Yahoo needs to take a vacation….So does Microsoft

i might be wrong.. but i dont recall Yahoo! ever giving any kind of release date for any of their projects.. they would just deploy them out of the blue.. and i think yahoo vista will be the same.. itll just be out one day without prior notice.. i have read it was to be released on the second quarter, but i dont know where they got that info from. might be bogus..
Comment by alex — June 26, 2007 #
That info as you call it was released on cnet and info world in an article about vista messenger
Comment by gerik4 — June 26, 2007 #
I see Yahoo finally mentioned about that new messenger for Vista (on there main blog page).
That’s good, they have’nt abandoned there project, and it will be released soon. It may be a little late, but thats O.K. At least they let us know. I hope the new messenger for Vista solves that voice problem in chat rooms too, that would be real cool.
Thank you Yahoo for not abandoning the project, and again, Thank you for keeping us informed on the new Messenger for Vista.
Comment by Kevin — June 26, 2007 #
incredibly stupid and lame that yahoo can’t get messenger conferencing with voice working 6 months later. Hello Google talk. Another reason why yahoo is so 1996.
Comment by yahooblowsdonkey — June 27, 2007 #
Damn ive been waiting since Jan. for this to come out and i just now bothered to read all these posts. Hopefully it comes out around July 2nd or at all, It doesnt bother me to wait, because I have no reason that I have to have it right now, but like you guys are saying, it does bother me that they havent updated us about anything, and its pretty obvious that Sarah is a bot, either from yahoo or from some prick who is trying to get us excited and aggrivated at the same time. Alot of us know that those dumbasses complaining about this messenger and bitching about past versions will still download and use this, and probably like it. Hell I havent even used it and I love it. Its been a while since something was created just for an operating system. I havent used my msn live messenger in a while but if they come out with something that looks as nice and as sleek as Vista messenger then ill hop all over it like a fat kid on pancakes.
