Its great that you finally have a place to report news on messenger. I love the screenshots from your Messenger for Windows Vista. It is by far the best looking version of YM youve ever had and Ive been using it since version 3.
One question though, did you leave the plugin functionality in YM for Vista?
Because, having Yahoo Radio RIGHT there has been SOOO convenient.

Awesome! Can’t wait to hear more!

Awesome! Glad there’s a place to stay current on the latest news with yahoo messenger. Just a small question…Is there anyway to get the typing sounds back? They were with the older versions and the last few versions I have had do not offer that but the sounds are still there. Thanks for any help with this.

Why is it that since I’ve upgraded to messenger v8 I have to deal with IMs asking me to check out webcams and profiles? I don’t go into chat rooms and am only suppose to be visible to people on my friends list. I’ve never had to deal with this problem the whole time I’ve been using messenger (approx 6yrs), now I have IMs popping up constantly.

When will there be an updated version for Mac users? Will it finally have voice? It also needs to “send message to all” for groups.
Additonally, IMvironments, audibles and all the other fun things would be nice.
Lastly, will you be making a version for Apples new iPhone that is being introduced June 1st, 2007?

Messenger is extremely unreliable for chat. I just connected to a room and couldn’t see any text. There’s no room where everyone just sits silently for like 5 minutes. Now Yahoo has taken away the option of browser based chat. I talk to friends in Messenger but I don’t like the chat room feature at all. Plus you still can’t make user chatrooms. Why was this feature taken away?

I miss the old IM.
The new one has a lot of steps backwards. For example: I use to display five cities on the weather tab – not anymore – the space is cluttered with some dumb pic. Let use select what it should look like. I have chat friends in these other places and was able to see what their weather was like, if they had a weather advisory or not.
I use to be able to keep track of several different topics in a small space, now it is cluttered with pics that I do Not want. Vid is nice when used correctly, sound is nice when it is used correctly. I must agree with mlark4 give use a choice.
If this is the look of windows Vista, help I DO NOT LIKE IT.
Give me opions Not what You want.

The new Vista messenger seems nice, but I’ve barely used IM since Yahoo shut down the ability for users to create their own chatrooms almost 2 years ago. Since then, the sitaution’s gotten a LOT worse with bots and hackers flooding the regular chat channel almost 24/7 and trolls hanging out in the teen chatrooms.
Until Yahoo stops ignoring the calls from users asing them to do *SOME*thing about the chatroom situation and at least COMMENTS on what’s happening, IM will continue to be a joke to me. I’m hoping that since the IM development team has a blog now, they can discuss some of these issues.
Bring back the user-created rooms!! *waves a rally-flag* =)
Comment by Andy — January 12, 2007 #
Why do some of you dummies go out of your way to visit this blog, and tell the rest of us how it “rox” or how much you “love” Yahoo Messenger?
Do you enjoy being bombarded with instant messages from people you don’t know, or wish to talk to? Especially the Indians, the Asians, the Arabs, etc? Do you enjoy reading filthy messages from porn compu-bots? If so, then Yahoo Messenger is the place for you!
Why do some people post questions directly aimed at Yahoo Staff? You do reallize this blog isn’t read by anyone on their payroll, don’t you? Yahoo is out to make the money. If your so naive as to think Yahoo is “family friendly”, or takes any action what so ever when they recieve a complaint or a request for help on a technical issue, well then they have you right where they want you.
I think Dateline NBC should do an expose on Yahoo and the rest of the chat service providers themselves. Mabe if their disdain for the average user, and failure to take action on so many of the problems that plague their chat rooms were broadcast on national network television, they would step up and fix the flaws. I bet more than a few advertisers would say good bye forever, to Yahoo, if it was better known what STILL goes on in their chat rooms. I know I would. Seriously, how long would it take their technical “experts” to make some changes? Two hours? Three mabe? The trick would be to find a team that can speak English.
Yahoo could have been the model the rest of them strive to equal, but they continue to throw that chance right down the toilet.
In a nutshell, lets not waste everyones time posting how much you love Yahoo Messenger.
Comment by bart — January 12, 2007 #
Also, if you can’t see text in any Yahoo Chat room, its because you have your preferences set to ignore anyone who is not on your friends list. The only way to join a room, and see text, is to allow instant messages from EVERYONE. Porn-bots included.
.
This has been a problem with the past two builds of Yahoo Messenger.
Its a pity that Carole McManus, community manager & Sarah Bacon, product manager, have never visited a Yahoo chat room. So much for quality control. Those types of attitudes would be enough to get most people fired.

How come you cannot access chat rooms under 8.1? How come when I log on I am get instant messages from people I do not know? Seems my name pops up to people not on my list?
And again tells us why porn bots roam the chat rooms with impunity?
Lastly, chat as bad as it is is far better than the mess at MSN.

I am at a loss. I just accepted the offer to download the new yahoo messenger. Whilst all my friend list is there – when i try and type in as usual to talk to my sister then text seems to dissappear in the ether – I can not see any of her text? Has anyone else had this problem.
VERY UNHAPPY – really want to be able to talk as usual.
Comment by zuzuphiney — January 17, 2007 #
The new Yahoo Messenger is very buggy .. the IM text disappears when it wants also the plugins won’t load at all just make the window longer
keep getting a little message that says Can’t connect with a little OK button below the text
almost everytime i click the mail button it asks me to sign in .. even know i have it set to auto log me in .. i think someone on the test team was sleeping on the job
but i can see a great upgrade once the bugs are worked out

When will the Macintosh version be updated?
Comment by applicator — January 21, 2007 #
I have been having ever increasing trouble with yahoo messenger over the past month. First of all I always sign in as invisible and then select the friends I wish to see me. Now, after I sign in and leave messenger for a bit, it will sign me out and then automatically resign me in, and make me available to everyone. I don’t like that. Secondly, and most recently, while I’m in a chat room, yahoo will automatically kick me out of the chat room. This has happened a couple of times and now I have trouble entering chat room. Hope these issues can be resolved soon cuz I like using yahoo messenger to chat with friends.
Comment by Mike — January 21, 2007 #

Your blog commended barts suggestion that to see text in the chat room we have to remove ignore from the Preferences. Did you try going in the chat room with this option? You get inundated with unwanted pms and spend all your time closing these pms instead of participating in the main chat room. Bad Idea!!. Strangely I want to know how come the other chatters dont have this problem and they dont need to use this ‘Unignore’ option while chatting?.

Comment by ianzzzx — January 24, 2007 #
I have tried entering a chatroom with preferences set to ignore all users not on my friends list. Of course I have tried this.
It was quite by accident that I discovered the only way to see chatroom text and/or switch chatrooms was to allow messages globally, from any user.
I would suggest that YOU attempt to see text in any chatroom while ignoring instant messages from anyone not on your friends list. Let alone entering different chatrooms.
As far as having to close multiple porn-bot message windows, I would suggest you click Messenger, then Preferences. Scroll down to ‘Messages’. By default, Yahoo Messenger opens all instant messages in separate pop-up windows. What you want to do is click the checkbox to “Show the messages in a single window”. This also comes in handy when a morbidly obese juvenile delinquent tries to flood you with instant messages in an attempt to “boot” you offline, as you can simply keep closing the window and defeating the attempt.
Comment by bart — January 25, 2007 #
Post Script to my last entry
I was refering to the newest version of Yahoo Messenger. If your not having any trouble viewing text or entering chatrooms, it may be your using an older, more reliable version of Messenger.
Comment by bart — January 25, 2007 #
Please update Mac client!
Comment by ken — January 25, 2007 #
Yahoo should suspend instant messaging services in all Middle Eastern / Oppressed African / Certain South American / Asian / Communist European countries and Mexico indefinately untill protocols are enacted to stem the flow of malicious and/or devious instant message traffic that may put the wellfare of The United States, or any of its citizens on an individual basis, in peril. In as much as International or Domestic terrorism is concerned.
Moral standards should be addressed. Deviant messages from offshore entities and/or those that wish to hinder or harass others, such as in “booting” should be investigated thoroughly.
I have an outline prepared to deliver to my Congressman that will explain the goings on in Yahoo Chatrooms, and preliminary feedback from his office indicates that he will step forward on behalf of this issue.

i had download the yahoo 8.1 version but when i want to go into the chatrooms. It takes ages!! when i chat with my friends and use the avatar space or other plug in, the messenger is kinda slow and it takes time. Can you make the yahoo messenger more quicker and doesn’t take too much time?? Thank you…
Comment by sky — January 30, 2007 #
How is the Yahoo Messenger MAC team doing? The beta is nice so far, but it’s still incredibly incompatible with PC users. The cam almost never works. With the latest PC upgrade now, I no longer see PC avatars on my Mac.
I really hope Yahoo will devote more resources to their Mac client. The Mac population is GROWING, and by the way, consists of lots of young people and others who are in the prime demographic of users Yahoo should want using their system instead of a competitor’s.

I am not sure what version of Messenger you’re on, but I would recommend first uninstalling Messenger from your computer (Go to Start>Settings>Control Panels>Add/Remove Programs). Then after uninstalling and restarting your computer, go to http://messenger.yahoo.com to download and install the latest version. Thanks,
